Jones, Quincy - What's Going On? Lyrics

Sister, sister, sister
Sister, sister, sister

What's goin' on
What's goin' on
What's goin' on
What's goin' on

Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today

Father, father
We don't need to escalate
War is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some loving here today

Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me so you can see

What's goin' on
Oh, what's going on
What's goin' on
What's goin' on

Yeah, what's goin' on
What's goin' on
What's goin' on
What's goin' on

Are you sure. I always heard that Quincy Jones himself sang lead on this.

@Rudi Mwongozi You are correct that's Q on Co lead vocal on this great remake. Mr. Cosby does vocals on the song he Co wrote with Q- "Hikky-Burr"- which was the theme song for his tv show from 1969-71.

What memories..this album was The actual bridge from pop/rock into the the world of jazz for me in the 70's. Suddenly I understood what was going on..

This great vinyl album was given to me as a gift by my cousin Earl during a visit to LA from my home country, in 1973. I was 18 at the time and had never heard of Quincy Jones . I heard it once and was captivated, and i have never tired of enjoying it. What a remarkable collection of world class musicians, doing out-of-the-world class music. Timeless, simply timeless.

"Q" gives the Marvin Gaye classic a Jazzier edge, yet retains the soul of the original, it also features some great instrumental soloists by Hubert Laws (flute) Freddie Hubbard (flugelhorn) Milt Jackson (vibes) with Quincy Jones & Valerie Simpson on vocals, from the 1971 Smackwater Jack album

If i should pick one record from the 70's that introduced me to the wonderful world of soul, funk and jazz it's this album. Hubert Laws's, Toots Thielemans and Freddy Hubbards solos opened my eyes.
