Jones, Norah - Put My Little Shoes Away Lyrics

Mother dear come bathe my forehead
For I’m growing very weak
Mother let one drop of water
Fall upon my burning cheek

I’m going away to leave you mother darling
And remember what I say
Do this won’t you please dear mother
Put my little shoes away

Santa Claus he brought them to me
With a lot of other things
I believe he brought an Angel
With a pair of golden wings

Tell my loving little playmates
That I never more will play
Give them all my toys but mother
Put my little shoes away

I’m going away to leave you mother darling
And remember what I say
Do this won’t you please dear mother
Put my little shoes away

So underrated. This is too good!

My dad used to sing this to me when I was 3-4 nearly 70 years ago. I would cry.

    That’s moving

I learned this from my mom, who learned it from Mac and Bob on the radio in the 1930s. This version is nice but is clearly borrowed from the Everly Brothers' not-quite-accurate recording.

My family found an old paper my great great grandmother wrote with these lyrics and piano chords. It was first I'd seen the song, and this is the first Ive heard of it. Beautiful and tragic.
