Jones, George - I Must Have Done Something Bad Lyrics

I must have done something bad sometime in my life
And I paid for it time and again
But this time you've hurt me so bad I could lay down and die
And the pain grows each day, ten times ten times ten.

If I thought my hand was against you, why I'd cut off my arm
And I'd walk off and leave it behind
If I thought that you needed money, why I'd sell my own soul
And I'd even steal from the poor and the blind.

I can't understand how ice can glitter like fire
Why you had me fooled all alone
I gave you all that I had then I searched around for more
And now I've got nothing at all and you're gone.

I must have done something bad sometime in my life
And I paid for it time and again and again...

Today music is all that is keeping this COUNTRY together. So many lies it seems it's funny to tell the truth. You demos are willing to destroy AMERICA because you hate the man that beat you. Trump.

George singing this just gives me chills..............most his songs do that are on the sad side. They broke the mold when Possum came into this world. Miss him so much all we got now is his uniquely incredible voice and his vast contribution to the country music world. And he NEVER turned his back on us. Stayed true to his country roots. RIP George.

KLUNKET Yeah he was very unique. There will never be another like him. He is my favorite singer ever. Glad I got to see him a few times.

Warren Stanley I saw my first Jones concert in 1980 at Ponderosa Park... He was so intoxicated that he stood next to the microphone rather than behind it, fumbled and and knocked it over... they brought out a stool and sat him on it, and he still did the entire show... his vocals were absolutely perfect despite his physical condition... I've seen Jones probably 20+ times, even met him quite a few times... I think Jones did his best shows in the 1990s... His voice had become something magical beyond description by that point... I saw shows where he would get a standing ovation after each song, then they stood for the last 3 or 4 songs the whole way through... don't get me wrong, he was ALWAYS great, but had become even more than great by then! When his voice started to fade in the early 2000s I remember feeling so bad when he would come on stage and apologize for his vocals... George Jones apologizing for his voice was something heart breaking to me... he never understood that he was so well loved and admired that the fans would still scream for him even if he just came out and SPOKE his songs... I don't think he ever realized how loved he was

    K.... ....

Yeah I agree, I thought he was better in the 90's. One of my favorite albums from him was You Oughta Be Here With Me. I have a few favorites too, lol. I worked at a casino down here and he was performing one night so I was the one that went to the airport to pick up his band. I met Ron Gaddis, (ever how u spell it) and the rest of the band. They were very awesome but I didn't get to meet George himself but man did he put on a great concert. Ron got me a few signed photos though and a cd. I will never forget that night. I got to see the whole show because my boss knew how big of a Possum fan I was. I also got paid, lol. Man it was awesome though. I miss him but he left such a huge mark and lots of music. He was such a huge part of my family with my uncles growing up. My uncle that got me hooked on him actually met him and got drunk with him years ago here in Louisiana. It was during George's drunkin years. My uncle used to always go see him at Jones Country in Texas, had a chance to go one time and didn't or couldn't and I've regretted it daily now both of them have passed.

    K.... ....

KLUNKET ya. his voice was just epic in the 90s... if u can find the live version of this you'll freak... there used to be 3 live versions of this song one was 2007.. and u can still can find the other... but the third was only online for few month's n gone.... it was amazing i listened everyday then ghost off utube.... maybe u can find it

I was grown up on country music. This is my mothers favorite artist of all times. I listen to other types of music throughout my life but....I find myself listening to what I grew up on. I just wonder what has happen to genuine country music?

    "JONESIN"

  36. J.... M....

There never was any country singer like George Jones before and none has come after. He had his demons and he wasn't perfect but his voice was. Incredibly melodic and soulful, it was the most beautiful country music voice ever. As long as there is music on this Earth, George will never be forgotten. RIP Possum!

  37. R.... ....

I was asking a question , sorry i forgot the question mark.....thanks Matt.

  38. M.... W....

NO! This song was written by Red Lane, and first recorded by Merle Haggard.

  42. f.... ....

I dare anyone who has music in their soul to listen to this and not be moved. George....you are the best Country singer ever, you've touched countless people with your talent and sincerity, and you will be sorely missed. RIP.

  43. M.... C....

Pal, nobody could dispute your choice. Jones is truly a great country singer.

  44. K.... ....

I've probably clicked on this video 500 times by now, and yet STILL every time I listen and Jones utters "10x10...x10" my hair stands right on end. Can you think of any other performer who could sing something like "10x10x10" and make it so powerful? Say what you wish about George Jones, but nobody could deny that the man could SING!

    K.... ....

You nailed it. I've thought the same thing about the same part of the song. He's the only singer to ever send actual chills through me when hitting certain notes....As a dude, that's hard to admit, but true. lolol. Simply the best singer ever in this genre.

    K.... ....

    Kid rock

  45. O.... O....

It's hard to beat George when he's singing anything.

  46. s.... ....

A lot of folks feel this way, your not alone

  47. K.... ....

I remember the first time I heard this album. Jones had released a shocking tell all biography appropriately titled "I Lived to Tell it All" and there was no question that this book was going to be a number 1 seller, so Jones released this album at the same time and gave it the same title. Anyhow I bought the softcover book, loved it, so I went back to buy the hard cover, when I did they had this album displayed next to the books- needless to say my hair stood on end the whole way home.
