Jones, George - Cup Of Loneliness Lyrics
I say Christian pilgrim so redeemed from sin,
Hauled out of darkness a new life to begin.
Were you ever in the valley where the way is dark and dim?
Did you ever drink the cup of loneliness with him?
The stand that you so boldly for the Lord did take.
Did they ever mock at you and laugh in ways quit grim?
Did you ever drink the cup of loneliness with him?
Did you ever try to preach then old fashioned pray?
And even when you did it that did not seem a way.
And you lost all courage then lost all you vim.
Did you ever drink the cup of loneliness with him?
All my friends 'tis bitter sweet while here on earth we stopped.
To suffer with the savior and when the way is dark and dim
The drink of the bitter cup of loneliness with him...

Mad Men brought me here!
Thank you mad men.
Mad men....
Great song. Up there with 30 pieces of silver by Hank sr.
Heart touching, poignant performance ... Masterpiece !
Everything started to make sense after this episode in season 2 of Mad Men. Don marrying Betty and staring at that Blonde in the bar, all in the likeness of her
Thanks Mr. Draper.
don+shazam brought me here
You know, mad men brought me here, and boy am I glad. There isn't music like this nowadays, it's a damn shame. Honest, genuine art will always prevail.
Thanks, production team. I really needed that.
Jesus Christ. It's very hard following the path. Everything in this song is so real
This song has some kind of power in it.
This is called singing with true emotion. I wish I heard this more often
Song hit me like a hammer. Thought it was Hank Williams but the voice wasn't his. What a style it really moved. Miss this style in Church as the modern Christian Rock is boring and sounds the same to me ah well what do I know I'm old lol
By God, I needed this today...miss ya possum.
Joel Miller me too
I always loved King George, but thanks to mad men, I got to hear this song, as always George kills it.
I love how much you can hear he means every word he sings :)
Gosto de som
I was listening to this before it was cool. ok, scratch that, it was always cool.
Christopher Moon Always cool indeed. God bless.
Glade to know I'm not the only one
I'm a Christian soldier
Mad men
Don Draper walking out into the ocean.....magic.
Watched them all earlier this year. What a story. And the sets and songs!
I'm nearing towards the end of Season 4, honestly one of the best shows I've ever watched.
This was used as a closing credit for Season 2 episode 13 of MADMEN. The song was recorded in 1957 while he was in his early years with MERCURY records. It was thought of in 1957 as a "real hillbilly gospel tune."
It was actually in season 2 episode 12 "The Mountain King"
This is a different rendition of this tune from the Mad Men closing.
He recorded another very similar version, but I'm not sure which came first...anyone know?
Tucker Nelson this is an alternate version.
I see Christian pilgrims
So redeemed from sin
Called out of darkness
A new life to begin
Were you ever in the valley
When the way is dark and dim?
Did you ever drink the cup
Of loneliness with Him?
Did you ever have them laugh at you
And say, it was a fake?
The stand that you so boldly
For the Lord did take
Did you ever have them mock at you
And laugh in ways quite grim?
Did you ever drink the cup
Of loneliness with Him?
Did you ever try to preach
Then old fashioned pray?
And even when you did it
That did not seem a way
And you lost all courage
Then lost all you vim.
Did you ever drink the cup
Of loneliness with him?
All my friends 'tis bitter sweet
While here on earthly sod
To follow in the footsteps
That our dear Savior trod
To suffer with the Savior
And when the way is dark and dim
To think of the bitter cup
Of loneliness with Him
liibaan mohamed not exactly

MAD MEN
I love this been a long time since I have heard it, I am 42 and remember these songs from when I was a kid Praise the Lord!!
George!! What a classic! I've thanked you before, but I'm doing it again. Kudos, "Mad Men"
Never seen madmen, but I'm glad they used one of my favorite songs by George -- he was the man...
Christopher Moon you should check the show out. I'm 27 now, and watched the entire thing three times now.
Mad men
Don in the ocean
love this song its my faviorte gospel
Maybe George Jones's entire life showed the same thing and you look like a goon for going around youtube in search of articulate responses.
Maybe your 2 word comment is way short of an articulate response to this song, and your first word shows you don't "get" the song. That's it.
Okay, go ahead......explain what the hell you're talking about.
cant believe you would say that about this song, sorry you dont ungerstand
....brilliant ...this is the young raw George Jones version from the early 50's ....hollers like Hank...can't get any better...but did...and the're all exceptional....
There are at least three different recorded versions of this song; this one is not on the album shown in the picture. But they are all good!
Just a Great old song , I have it on the first Vinyl Lp of his I bought back in the early sixties , thanks for posting it
THANK GOD FOR GEORGE JONES!
I'm addicted to this song and I don't know why!
No joke, been searching for this since I saw it on Mad Men years ago!
