Jon McLaughlin - Indiana Lyrics

I'm glad i never lived next to the water
So I could never get used to the beach
And I'm glad I never grew up on a mountain
To figure out how high the world could reach
I love the miles between me and the city
Where I quietly imagine every street
And I'm glad I'm only picturing the moment
I'm glad she never fell in love with me

For some the world's a treasure to discover
And your scenery should never stay the same
And they're trading in their dreams for Explanations
All in an attempt to entertain
But I love the miles between me and the city
Where I quietly imagine every street
And I'm glad I'm only picturing the moment

I'm glad she never fell in love with me

The trick of love is to never let it find you
It's easy to get over missing out
I know the how's and whens, but now and then,
She's all I think about

I wonder how it feels to be famous
But wonder is as far as I will go
Because I'd probably lose myself in all the Pictures
And end up being someone I don't know.
So it's probably best I stay in Indiana
Just dreaming of the world as it should be
Where every day is a battle to convince myself
I'm glad she never fell in love with me

Jon McLaughlin Indiana Comments

My sister went to college with him in good old Anderson, Indiana. I was born, raised and still live in Indiana. Might not be the best state, but to me its home.

I just discovered you when one of my new favorite authors -- Kelsey Kingsley -- shared that she listened to this song 400 times while writing one of her books. OMG Jon I'm so glad she shared you. I just loved this song and am sharing it everywhere. The world needs you and your music more than ever right now.

  5. J.... F....

Jon, I just met you in San Jose and you took a picture with my kids. They've become new fans! Thanks for a great show. :) Your song Indiana is so moving that I was inspired to attempt to play it myself. Couldn't stop humming the melody from the first time I heard it. It pales in comparison to the original, of course, but for anyone who's curious you can view my piano cover version at https://youtu.be/TBKAxzHdkjk. Just wanted you to know that you're inspiring people with your music. Thanks for all the great songs!

    This is a masterpiece.

Currently watching in Indiana! I agree about being glad to not have grown up next to a beach or a mountain. There is really no grand scenery where I am, but occasionally very pretty sunsets over the flat fields. But, every time I go to a beach, or I climb up on a mountain, I appreciate their beauty so much more!

  15. .... ....

Дорoгой Jon пожалуйста, радуйте нас новыми работами. Мы вас очень любим😊

  16. E.... M....

Good lord this is gorgeous... it should be a classic.

I guess this song summarizes why he never got billions of attention because he don't want to be that someone who didn't know himself anymore. He always keeps himself grounded and for as long as he touch lives with his soulful music, the better thing here is that he makes us smile and fell inlove with every song he release. I just can't get enough of him. He's such a great singer with good quality of voice. He's perfect to end. I'm loving his songs over and over again.

    Great Irish-American singer

I'm not exactly sure why this doesn't have more likes, or views or followers or comments or ANYTHING it deserves.

  21. k.... ....

there are so many fly by night artists, with average voices and no musical talent, who are shown more respect than Jon. this is pure, raw talent...musically, vocally, and emotionally moving...just beautiful...keep doing what you're doing brother..

    k.... ....

That is why I love him.

  22. J.... C....

I have been driving to Indiana two times a year during my son's soccer season.
This beautiful tune will add to my memories of precious times in Indiana.

  23. B.... ....

Great voice and a great piano player. Love the lyrics to many of his songs. It's nice you can understand each word, nice clear voice. I could listen to him all day!!

  24. K.... R....

Love this song and your music!  I am about to leave Indiana after 51 years....feeling a little sad about that....and did not expect it.  Lots of ties...including IU Bloomington and IWU !  Will always enjoy your music!

  26. A.... G....

sooooo very heartfelt and much appreciated by mine

  27. M.... H....

Love this...he opened for Billy Joel Nashville in march

    M.... H....

That's cool because his musical style reminds me of some of Billy Joel's ballad style songs. Jon McLaughlin has a beautiful voice and that story/song quality of a lot of older artists.

  28. E.... H....

  40. B.... R....

He is now, but he knows what it's like to not get enough. It's called "soul." :) It's a blessing and a curse.

  41. C.... P....

first song I ever listened from him was beautiful disaster, and I was hooked then I heard this song fell in love (the song) and not just because I live in Indiana ( I actually grew up near a beach) anyway When I found this video you cant help but be drawn in by his emotion.. I honestly if he sung this song and only had a mediocre voice you couldn't help but respect because of this presence and emotion. Down right AMAZING. He gives an amazing live show, saw him with the orchestra... sooo lucky

  42. C.... D....

As someone who grew up in the same town as Jon McLaughlin, this song couldn't be more accurate. One of my all time favorites.

  43. L.... M....

I wish I'd known "The trick of love" before it found me.

  44. I.... ....

    The lyrics are beautiful.

  65. E.... F....

Can this be Indiana's state song???

  66. A.... A....

thank you for the great lyrics :) there's a piece of everything you're feeling in each verse. It's not about how you feel about a woman or a city....but about how you feel about you and it's very vulnerable. Thank you for this - because the vulnerability is what makes this song so inspiring :) Arielle

  67. P.... L....

i am felt in love with his music when i was accidentally hear one of his music! omg

  68. J.... L....

  70. O.... ....

This is such an amazing idea for a song, and so beautifully played. Great music :)

  71. A.... H....

    Simple and beautiful.

  72. s.... ....

I was on a bus to home this afternoon, and this song played in my mp3 player. I just had to play it over and over again. There's something infinitely heartbreaking about it. Yet, it's introspective, and somehow, it makes me marvel at the power of love and how it can be beautifully translated into music. Congratulations to you for being a great instrument of that power. :)

  73. A.... ....

The trick of love is to never let it find you. It's easy getting over missing out.

  74. l.... ....

THis song needs to be recognised around the world. It's certainly much deeper & quieter than the trash we have in the music industry these days...

  75. g.... ....

Very nice song. Very nice game, a talented artist. Thank you!

  76. T.... ....

    He is amazing. Just amazing.

  77. D.... ....

Britney Spears " Hold It Against Me" shouldn't even have a banner compare to this song, let alone a whole left side.

  78. a.... ....

when someone is able to sound better live than on his cd. that is talent. this guy has talent

  79. M.... Y....

    So beautiful. <3

  80. a.... ....

How the fuck does this only have 6,678 views? It should have 6 million! He is so incredible. A true, honest talent.
