Johnson, Robert - I Believe I'll Dust My Broom Lyrics
I'm gointa get up in the mornin
I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gointa get up in the mornin
I believe I'll dust my broom
Girlfriend the black man you've been lovin
I'm gonna write a letter
Telephone every town I know
I'm gonna write a letter
Telephone every town I know
If I can't find her in West Helena
She must be in East Monroe I know
I don't want no woman
Wants every downtown man she meets
Wants every downtown man she meets
She's a no good dooney
They shouldn't allow her on the street
I believe, I believe I'll go back home
I believe, I believe I'll go back home
You can mistreat me here babe,
But you can't when I'm back home
And I'm gettin up in the mornin
I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gettin up in the mornin
I believe I'll dust my broom
Girlfriend the black man you been lovin
Girlfriend can get my room
I'm gonna call up Chiney
See is my good girl over there
I'm gonna call up China
See is my good girl over there
I can't find her on Phillipine's island
She must be in Ethiopia somewhere

Johnson, Robert I Believe I'll Dust My Broom Comments
thankyou for this.. I recorded with Walter Horton in the 70's. Do you know if Walter knew Robert?
Best listened to in a dimly lit room with a glass of whiskey and a preparedness for the magic journey your ears are about to partake in.
such a lonely voice. Otherworldly.
What’s Robert Johnson got to do with Rock n Roll????.......just about everything.
I think it stinks . Period!!
Our tribute to Robert and ZZ Top - https://youtu.be/5--olFvhY0k
Supposed that he had lived 70 years. Who would be the king?
"I believe I'll go back home
you can mistreat me here, baby
but you can't when I go home"
these lyrics are hilariously solid
It's funny if you use the closed captions on this. Apparently they are automatically generated... and for most of the song, the computer just "shrugs" and can't even detect language! ... then it gets inspired! "He must be done man, Jimmy he's a no-good Tony love, I Believe Pendragon you been having these, not good turn over there, I keep my Philippine mother, She must beneath EOP somewhere"... just as the master penned it! lol
From the original 78 RPM and so clean so crisp...wow...love it!
There's something different about RJs voice , guitar playing, phrasing, even picking, I don't think it's recording differences; every time I hear him on different tracks and takes you can always tell it's him, and to my ears and taste, it's just better.. better than the others for some reason(s)
I don't understand why his strings sound the way they do?
How lucky are we to listen to this masterpeice ^×^
I had the original!
"I don't want no woman, that ever downtown man can beat"
My town exactly ♡
am i the only one who does not understand this song, and want to hear th mordern songs, like home with you by rebecca charlotte dahl. or
I'm the Planck Time old. What is all this matter doing here?
Great song to clean your room to
Elmore James does an incredible cover of this song. Worth a listen if you've never heard it.
unfortunately he took credit for it and published it so the song comes up as his song everywhere you search. Ah well... blues tradition. Stealing riffs! lol... RJ stole the idea from others' before him.
I'm dead and I love this.
I see the Elmore James version as the one you listen to when the blistering hot Mississippi sun is shining outside, as the Robert Johnson version the one that echoes into the cricket filled southern night.
I DO LOVE THIS BLUES
HELL YEAH
Un vituoso al cantar y tocar la guitarra ... Con la remasterizacion se oye tan bien como si lo estuviera oyendo de frente
1 second old fetus gang wya
China says they don't have her. They'll let you know if she turns up.
Legends are interesting. But I mean westerns in film were popular in the 30s, and he clearly was just changing saloon piano music into guitar. I mean, that's pretty cool, but people have gotten carried away with this...
I played this , and asked my grandson, who's 11, how old did he think this song was, he sead ,about 30years, his eyes nearly fell out his head, when I sead , over 80 years.
The original 27 Club member and as you can hear: the inventor of Rock and Roll before the electric guitar.
We went from this to Gucci Gang...smfh
i have a feelin he plays and sings in diffrent timings...........wow

Just saw Daniel LaRusso and Tuvok walking into that bar on Main Street...
Good Lord! Look at those fingers! Made to play the guitar!
I wasnt even born and I like this song
I'm not a number I'm a free man.
did robert johnson "invent" the boogie chord?
It depends if you are talking about on the piano or on the guitar. On the piano, it goes back further than Robert. On the guitar, I'd say Blind Lemon Jefferson likely invented it and Robert followed closely behind.
Gotta love Robert Johnson. When people leave him out of the 27 club I get mad
rattyeely he was the 1st
he IS the club
ME TOO; he is the OG first 27 club member ever, I think! Hendrix, j Morrison, j Joplin, Kurt Cobain are some of the more popular names in the club, I think the fella from the rolling Stones was in it too, pigpen from the grateful dead, Amy Winehouse, and a few others
@Klayton Von Kluge brian jones
@VMan29397 ty! (Embarrassed I couldn't think of right away, damn)
with all the ankle biting experiences in life getting laid is a temporary respiteee....
Dusting my broom is the blues singers' euphemism for getting laid.
Since the Human Experience is a twisted tale of ups and downs, those moments of rapid heartbeats, rising joy, and concomitant depletion, express our every hope and dream in microcosm.
"Dust my broom" means "leaving for good" or "pack up and go", nothing to do with sex.
Sorry, but I disagree. Been there. Done that.
Silvio is right.
I'm 10 inches and love this song
All dem 78s wuz 10 inchers . . .

I wonder if Robert Johnson ever thought his music would be listened to on a computer 80 years later by a PasteyWhite kid in his bedroom.
Let alone a pastey white girl...
of course he fucking didn't. computers weren't invented until 1946, robert died in 1938

R JN good music can be appreciated at any age
If i lived in chicago around 1936 would i be able to see him in a place where he'd sing every night or so?
@SomeoneYou Know well if unless you have a ritual to break the bounds of time and go back i'd go too.
+SomeoneYou Know He played all over but called Mississippi home. Chicago was into the whole swing sound. One man and a guitar didn't get much play up there. Him and Son House were inventing the delta sound down in Dixie. In Clarksdale, Robinsonville, Tishomingo, Memphis and the cotton belt.
He had a great talent. But everybody knows Robert Johnson SOLD HIS SOUL TO THE DEVIL to get it.
@***** Oh right lol my bad. Yeah it is more interesting
P Young not for a week. For 8 months. Another musician an dc friends of Robert Johnson named willie brown talks about that in an old recording
Kyle Lewis No it doesn't. Somebody made that up to make him sound more interesting.
Konstantinos Vogiannou, He was more than likely poisoned, by a rival husband/boyfriend. I don't believe for a minute about any person selling their soul to the Devil. I do know the NFL is FAKE, though. Just to change the current subject matter.
John Bohr Not true at all. Listen to the lyrics to his song Crossroads, he calls out to God to save him.
I think I heard this guy in 72.
@Daniel Smith nope
+Konstantinos Vogiannou I heard him in 2015
I dusted my broom this morning
it would be historic if there was some kind of video footage from this man.
@***** im sorry, its been a while since I commented on here, what clip are you asking about? thanks.
@Alex DeLarge I'm a "conditional" racist thanks to racebaiter's like yourself. you're a racebaiter and a youtube masterbaiter. quit stalkin' or see you later.
There is a video called "alleged footage of Robert Johnson" look it up on here it's pretty interesting
Well Chuck Berry copied his riffs from this brilliant man
@Flesh Robe Except it doesn't. :D
+Miguel
Oh yes, you will learn as you study music, African Roots run deep.
Keep listening and learning.
@Flesh Robe I know that. But not ALL music from the blues. :)
JIO P don’t we all
Miguel I believe he meant all American music.
I'm a power metal singer, and I'll listen to pretty much anything. I write and record most of my band's music and lyrics. But this is where it all started for me. My background in delta blues made me want to start a band in the first place. Actually, what I mean is a backing band for live performances; I prefer to go solo like these guys.
It's fun to go back isn't it? I always, always feel better the day after a night of delta blues playing. It took me a while to figure out why I would get up the next day with a big old smile on my face. I couldn't tell why. Then I realized it ALWAYS happens the morning after my "delta nights"
I'm gonna call up China, see if my good gal's over there.
"I'm goin' to call up in China, just to see if my baby's over there" -- Carl Rafferty, "Mr. Carl's Blues," 1933.
"Now I'm going to ring up China yeah man, see can I find my good gal over there." -- Kokomo Arnold, "Sissy Man Blues," 1935.
@Joseph Scott Thanks. I'm collecting Call China references in Blues songs.
@bluesloverz I'm fairly sure in this one it "write a letter, telephone every town I know"
So this song is 78 years old... It's good :))
This song is older than recording technology. Robert Johnson was not even the first to record it.
Talk about Roots Music - this is IT. Magnificent.
I like Robert's vague reference to the imminent world war in the final verse.
