Johnson, Robert - 32-20 Blues Lyrics

If I send for my baby, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Hot Springs sure can't help her none

And if she gets unruly, thinks she don't wan' do
And if she gets unruly and thinks she don't wan' do
Take my 32-20, now, and cut her half in two

She got a .38 special but I believe it's most too light
She got a .38 special but I believe it's most too light
I got a 32-20, got to make the caps alright

If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Hot Springs sure can't help her none

I'm gonna shoot my pistol, gonna shoot my gatling gun
I'm gonna shoot my pistol, gotta shoot my gatling gun
You made me love you, now your man have come

Ahoh, baby, where you stayed last night
Ahah, baby, where you stayed last night
You got your hair all tangled and you ain't talking right

Her .38 special, boys, it do very well
Her .38 special, boys, it do very well
I got a 32-20 now, and it's a burning

If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Wisconsin sure can't help her none

Hey, hey, baby, where you stayed last night
Hey, hey, baby, where you stayed last night
You didn't come home until the sun was shining bright

Ahoh boy, I just can't take my rest
Ahoh boy, I just can't take my rest
With this 32-20 laying up and down my breast

  5. M.... N....

A song of love's jealousy is something many Schubert and Schurman songs are about. This is another literally violent. He's got a guitar in his hands not a 32-20.

  8. H.... M....

Decades before the advent of double tracking, and Robert Johnson made his one guitar sound like two. What an absolute talent.

    H.... M....

He is playing lead guitar and rhythm guitar at the same time and singing on top of that. Wow.

  20. A.... ....

I like how at one point Robert slips and reverts to the original "all the doctors in Wisconsin" lyric.

    A.... ....

AllBobsAllTheTime He mentions Hot Springs first, and then Westminster. I'm thinking it's you that's slipping up.

  21. L.... M....

Who gives a flying FUCK if "drake" brought you here.....

  22. M.... B....

So many little subtleties in his playing, I'm constantly finding new elements and touches that I hadn't noticed before! Such a downright mean tune too!

  23. L.... M....

    Dumbest comment thread on youtube.

  24. j.... ....

seemed that my generation of college students was awakening to this music in the mid-late '90s in the mountains of North Carolina: some fruit grew out of those times: Blue Rags, Snake Oil, Old Crow, Avett Bros

    Robert Johnson-The Original Gangsta!!

  47. A.... S....

River Johnson was the first blues man.. That's what makes him so great. He was an innovator

    A.... S....

    Robert***

    A.... S....

+Auz Stafford River Johnson actually sounds pretty cool

    A.... S....

Auz Stafford That's no where near accurate. Charlie Patton is probably the original blues man.

    A.... S....

Robert was influenced quite a bit by Charlie Patton and Son House. Robert Johnson was not the first bluesman and neither were Charlie or Son.

  48. W.... S....

So everyone saw that drake interview from the arts show

  49. V.... L....

    drake brought me here

    V.... L....

    same here

  50. T.... D....

Drake brought me here, and I don't understand why this song is okay? Shooting a woman because she didn't come? This song is fucked up.

    T.... D....

so why celebrate it now. Drake said he listens to it before he performs.

    T.... D....

Cause its still music. You can pull inspiration from a lot of different places.

    T.... D....

    You really are fucking stupid

    T.... D....

+Tommy DiMassimo Listen to the song, dipshit. There is more to it. If it really bothers you, you're a mangina with shit taste m8.

    T.... D....

You're the classic shithead that still thinks of music as lyrics on a pedestal, grow up some balls into music, fucking close minded dumbfuck ...

  51. T.... S....

    Drake brought me here!!

  59. c.... ....

    c.... ....

    crushsatan yes

  60. C.... B....

    Thanks for posting!

  61. Q.... ....

Oh it sounds weird to hear TALANTED music for a change. I'm so used to hearing crap lmao

  62. K.... S....

Now this is some old blues...1936

    K.... S....

The original version "22-20 blues" is even older, Skip James wrote it, and played it on Piano instead of guitar. Johnson just covered it, and changed some of the lyrics.

    K.... S....

@Fuzz Face I've listened to some old blues and noticed that the same lyric would crop up in several songs. I guess the guys knew each other and copyrighting didn't exist in their social circle. I hope new converts to the blues make the effort to look further than the usual artists and seek out other blues artists whose music hasn't received as much attention as other musicians.

  63. D.... W....

I got a .32 long colt and it will cut your ass in two!

  64. A.... ....

This will be easy to perform... Coolio

  65. W.... S....

imagine if kurt cobain would have covered some of Robert Johnson's stuff for his solo album? coincidence? theyre both part of the 27 club

    W.... S....

pity that kurt was crap as a guitarist

    W.... S....

Dude, there also a 28 club, a 29 club, a 30 club, a 31 club, a 32 club, etc etc, it's nothing mystic, there are so many famous people that funnily enough, you sometimes get a lot dying at a certain age...

    W.... S....

    @Jim Wisecrack 'Word'

    W.... S....

@establishmentblues He wasn't crap but he wasn't great, he was average

  66. B.... A....

"He sure is one of the first great" No, he first recorded in the late '30s, during the Swing Era, after many other blues greats such as Lemon Jefferson, Frank Stokes, Peg Leg Howell, Jaybird Coleman, Henry Thomas, Charlie Patton, Robert Wilkins, John Hurt, Andrew Baxter, Joe Callicott, Bessie Smith, Ed Andrews, William Moore, Freeman Stowers, Skip James, Simmie Dooley, Ed Bell, Willie McTell, Furry Lewis, and Blind Blake.

    B.... A....

Joseph Scott Point? Just because he didn't record when others did, doesn't mean he wasn't "one of the first greats". He was around following people like Son House and Willie Brown to gigs learning from them. Everyone you listed is an early great, as is R.J. The greatest of all IMHO is Blind Willie Johnson. I grew up in the town where he was born, so it is definitely a biased opinion.

  67. E.... M....

    EL MEJOR !!

  68. S.... V....

where is his third arm on the picture?

    S.... V....

    in between his legs

  69. j.... d....

    doctors and hot springs . . .

  70. R.... M....

Listen to the music that was around before robert johnson and then you see what came after. Even the blues singers who became popular later and who actually played with robert johnson will all admit that he was special and started something...

  71. R.... M....

I see where your going with that but i had to refrain from making a similar comment because i just couldn't bring myself to make any comparison at all of this too rap:)

  72. R.... S....

Listen to skip's (the writer)'s version.Hard to decide! Also I read all the DODGERS in Hot Springs they can't help her none.

  73. S.... N....

Based on a 32-20 Winchester. Rap before rap.

    S.... N....

I disagree. This guy is singing. Rap ic talking or yelling.

  74. L.... m....

    32-nice blues

  75. S.... P....

    Robert Johnson for ever ...

  80. n.... r....

this should have 100000000000000000000000 LIKES love robert johnson

  81. W.... ....

sintonia perfeita entre instrumento e voz! muito bom!

  82. J.... A....

    "Crossroads." Good film!

  83. J.... A....

What hype, Dipshit. They were all good. They all made their contribution. You're missing the whole point. Just enjoy the music.

  84. J.... A....

He played his guitar like a piano. He did things that other blues men from that era weren't doing. At very least enough to carry the blues just that much further. It makes no difference if he was "better," but he did make a significant contribution, and is rightfully recognized for it.

  85. s.... ....

In a week. Perhaps in a month, perhaps in half a year, you'll come back to one of Robert's songs, and you won't know why, but you will want to hear it again.

  86. s.... ....

No need to be an ass... It's a cool legend and we like to keep it alive 'round here.

  87. P.... ....

He sure is one of the first great, although sometimes in this song he seems to be about to lose the rhythm, which is a terrible thing.
    Blues on anyway!

  88. B.... ....

The Devil is damned ugly then if that's him.

  89. A.... ....

    @AllBobsAllTheTime Found it!!!! Skip James

  90. A.... ....

I can't remember whose song was Johnson covering here ..

    A.... ....

    That's his

  91. m.... w....

For a change of pace and great slide guitar listen to Blind Willie Johnson. His lyrics are religious so if that bothers you so be it, but he's a great singer, narrator, and slide player. He does a great version of John the Revelator.

    m.... w....

moses wapshot What a great player.

    m.... w....

The best country blues slide guitarist. He's to country blues what Earl Hooker was to electric slide.

  92. m.... w....

I think he's a better singer and guitarist than most of them. Especially the singing part. And he made a lot of recordings. But part of his fame is probably having written Crossroads, which Cream made famous. Variations in tempo and so are not exactly outlawed - this is delta blues y'all!

  93. j.... ....

@Milestones01 Don't worry, you're not alone. Robert Johnson is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but all this mythology about how great he is and so forth is a buncha bologna. He was a great bluesman. But Son House, Charlie Patton, Skip James, Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Blake, Blind Lemon Jefferson, et al were just as good or better. Don't believe the hype. Kudos for your enlightenment.

  94. M.... ....

I swear his tempo always changes..and this song is one of the better songs I have heard ...tempo wise..I like other bluesman of his era the same or better ..I am missing what makes him better than other guys from 1890 to 1940 .people say Phrasing or writing and singing ..I don't know I guess I've always wanted to hear a profound difference.
maybe I am just not familiar enough with his work...he actually goes against the grain for me..
