Johnny Winter - Tin Pan Alley Lyrics

Tin Pan Alley is a dirty place
The very place my baby loves to stay
Tin Pan Alley blues is killin' me
It's killin' me

I met a women down there
I really want to see

She little and cute, she's young and wild
I just want to hold her in my arm for a little while
So that the Tin Pan Alley blues will let me be
Let me be

'Cause [?]
If you only would agree

You see I love you for yourself
Your just the kind of women
That don't seam to care

Tin Pan Alley, baby must be your home
Well, nothing down there, baby
But blood and bones
Yes, yes

Tin Pan Alley, it's way across town
People like to kick the dog
When the sun goes down

Tell you baby
Please make it up in your mind
Because a women like you darling
Is sure hard to find

Does one have to own a Jag to love Johnny? :)...Well, back in my youth, I once owned a '60 MK IX and a '61 3.8 Mk II so I'm sorta qualified.

I had the privilege to meet and talk to him for a couple of minutes 6 months ago in Germany in the small town where I work. I could hardly believe it. It was surreal meeting this legend from Texas in this humble town. His concert was great but it made me sad to see how his health has deteriorated. He is a real gentleman and so is Paul his manager. Such lovely people. His autograph is on my guitar now.

I saw Johnny sometime in the late '80s in Bayshore, NY. Without a doubt the loudest show I have ever been to. My ears are still ringing.

Johnny was one of the greats----in his prime, nobody could touch him. The stuff he did with Alligator may be his best blues work. If you had the chance to see him back in the eighties --depending upon the night--it could be magic. Go see him if you have the chance-it will only be disappointing, if you were there back in the day--he has had some issues that have affected his playing, but the experience of seeing him is well worth it if only to say you did.

This is by far the best rendition and lyrics to this song...I can actually visualize it.
I've always like Johnny and I learned his playing style when i was 16.

I've been listening to Johnny since 1970. There are a lot of great guitar slingers that have come out of Texas, but for my money, Johnny is the greatest true bluesman. BTW, I do believe this one features Dr. John pounding the ivories...

  16. J.... P....

Ever-ready...never rocks out!!! The man has stamina. You go Johnny. My first concert ever was at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto with you and your brother Edgar -- good times never to be forgotten. It was great recently seeing you at The Regent Theatre in Picton, Ontario. Cheers. Marilyn

@SLMNSMRT I agree, he's a great guitarist but an amazing singer!!!! I think he's one of the best!!

  26. j.... ....

anybody else get it? this song is about heroin addiction and chasin' the good stuff?

There are all the other aforementioned rock guitar gods and they're great........
But IMNSHO, Johnny is absolutely the best...... vocals and instrument both a cut above the rest. What a National Treasure!

  27. E.... ....

    Love this song!

  28. s.... ....

My favorite JW song and IMHO one of the all time modern blues classics. Great piano intro, bass and drums, sexy, bluesy, gravely voice. His guitar solo on this track is exquisite and must rank as one of the all time greats, up there with Hendrix and Red House, Clapton on Crossroads etc. I agree: JW at his best. I also like Love, Life and Money on the same CD (Third Degree).

  29. H.... N....

Yes, me too, I got an XKE Coupe and in the CD Changer of the car there is mostly JW. This tune I think is Johnny at his best!
Fine voice, perfect guitar, wonderful blues
So what can be nicer to cruise around in a Jag, accelerate while Johnny james a solo!

  30. r.... l....
