Johnny Winter - No Time To Live Lyrics

As time begins to burn it's self upon me
And the days are growing very short
People try their hardest to reject me
But in a way their conscience won't be torn

Something's happen to me day by day
My pebble on the beach is getting' washed away yeah
Well I give it everything that is mine to give
Then I'll turn around to find that there is no time to live

So often I see the big wheel of fortune
Spinning for the man who holds the ace
There's many that'll change their places for me
But come to find I've never seen such lonely days

Something's happen to me day by day
My pebble on the beach is getting' washed away yeah
Well I give it everything that is mine to give
Then I'll turn around to find that there is no time to live

  13. A.... W....

The original song from Traffic is still the best.

    A.... W....

Nothing wrong with liking them both. Winter's soulful guitar kinda takes the place of Wood's haunting sax. Vive la difference!

    A.... W....

    Dito, I like them both.

    A.... W....

You will also love Brian Auger and The Trinity and Brian Auger/Julie Driscoll Tippetts versions from 1969 and 1978, respectively. Both very well done. Auger's organ solo on the 1978 version is incredible.

    A.... W....

    I absolutely agree!

  14. R.... O....

That's the third time Johnn Winter made me cry in about six months since i've discovered his work. First "Life is Hard", than a live record from "Mississipi Blues", than this. It only happpens with him.

Check out his cover of "Drown In My Own Tears," off his first Columbia LP, "Johnny Winter..."
I know this is sacrilege, but , IMO, his version cuts Brother Ray's original.

  16. N.... W....

    Beautiful

  17. C.... M....

This guy was the greatest guitar hero to never get close to his fair share of radio play. God rest your soul John Dawson Winter!

    F.... ....

Yeah, it sure is a great song. The original Traffic version got very little airplay, too, if that's any consolation.

  21. C.... 1....

I grew up in West Point and Newburgh New York with Rick Derringer playing in small clubs without the media.  Back then there were no cell phones, no hidden cameras on a phone, just true music and yes, Rick Derringer was great I met him and was only 14 I didn't even know who he was.  Johnny was a legend.

  22. C.... F....

I can't believe he's gone.  I truly cried my heart out listening to this song.

  36. M.... v....

    Are you still there?

  37. c.... t....

BOY ARE U RIGHT NOONE TALKS ABOUT THIS SOULFUL BALLSY VOCALIST I GUESS BECAUSE OF HIS GUITAR PLAYING DROWN IN MY OWN TEARS FOR EX. BUT THEN THERES EDGAR OF COARSE & TOGETHER VOCALLY THERE IS NOTHING ON THIS PLANET THAT CAN TOUCH THESE SIBLINGS

  38. d.... ....

A great interpretation of the Traffic song from their second album. Johnny's voice sounds a little like Stevie Winwood's here but the blues guitar work is a step up from the original. Johnny makes a mistake here saying, "But in a way their conscience won't be taught" instead of "caught" but he can be forgiven for that. A beautiful job here.

  39. t.... ....

His voice was perfect for this song!
Originally written and done by Steve Winwood & Traffic in 1968 but this arrangement blows the original sideways.
Very haunting and poignant plus it sounds timeless.

  40. b.... ....

ive always felt johnny played the way srv always wanted to......saw jw many many times in houston for 2 bucks......wow, how old am i?

  46. T.... Z....

    great song great album/cd

  47. z.... z....

    Great tune.....

  48. T.... ....

I saw every concert that He, Edgar and Rick performed between 1971-1990 in the Philly area. Yeh.. I am THAT Old! I got to see Derringer at the Iron Horse Saloon (Ormond Beach) about 10 yrs ago. It was during the summer and TOO little a crowd... (wussies) Sometimes the elements just can fck up a great outdoor concert. BUT ~ Rick gave my autistic son a guitar pic. Rock on!

  49. P.... D....

My first music love and still do...long live Johnny Winter!!!

  50. t.... ....

Very soulful version..IMHO better than Steve Winwood's.

This is a good exemple to take something and make it better.

  58. t.... ....

Origilnally done by the British group Traffic, which featured Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Dave Mason and Chris Wood.

A change of pace for Johnny; great chords, a great example of how someone can do someone else's song in their own style, and make it their own.Great drumming too!!!

  59. S.... ....

Thanks man... This is one of my favorite songs from this album
