Johnny Winter - I Smell Trouble Lyrics

Lord knows I've tried
To do what's right
Five long years I've stayed home
Both day and night

I gotta a long trouble
Over yonder
Way up there I heard a mean
Always in trouble
Lord they just won't let me be

People talk about me
Both night and day
I said, Lord please forgive them
And go the other way

I smell a long trouble
Way over yonder way up there a mean
Whoooh
Always in trouble
Lord, they just won't let me be
Won't let me be

But from now on
I will not run and hide
Gonna face trouble with a smile
And hope it pass me by

I gotta long trouble
Way over yonder way up there a mean
Whoh, always in trouble
Lord, they just won't let me be
Ah, Lord, they won't let me be

Oh, from now on
I will not run and hide
Gonna face trouble with a smile
And hope it pass me by

I gotta long trouble
Way over yonder way up there a mean
Whoh, always in trouble

They just won't
They just won't
They just won't
They just won't let me be

Oooh, yea-a-a-a

One of my favorite concerts that I ever went to was Edgar Winter. It was in New England, and i guess we were lucky to get him. He played for awhile and then, after a great set, he came out to the mic and said, People keep asking me..........where's your brother? Just then Johnny walked on stage and the crowd went wild. The rest of the concert was the two of them playing like they were back home in Texas. Amazing.

  10. M.... G....

Oh man, this dude needs to hit the weights once in a while....

  11. B.... D....

Years ago I saw Johnny Winter at the Hollywood Bowel. He stepped on stage for just some Blues. Of course Dickey Betts stepped in to see if he could match the guitar virtuoso Mr. Winter, but soon and thankfully soon, Mr. Betts simply had to sit down, watch, listen and learn. Great performance that night and the other times I saw Johnny Winter preform. He didn't play the guitar, his fingers simply glided over the strings.

    R.... M....

RICHARD MC INTYRE don’t worry, ABBA got in.

    R.... M....

I totally agree Richard, first time I heard a album playing years ago I was hooked, I always told guys if you could play like this you wouldn't have to need another job, nowadays we just have very poor grade of people judging they should rotate them around ,he always had my vote he should of had it back when muddy was in the man's been around the real deal pretty sad RIP mr.Winter.

  57. T.... T....

    Man ! What a sence of timing...bass & harp....keeping up J.W.....truly...funking Rare....

  58. H.... S....

The whole song I like what Jon Paris is doing on el.bass AND harmonica, better bluesharp, at the same time. @ 9:15 he gives a 3+ minutes solo on his bluesharp, also while playing his el.bass. He could have done better, I guess, if he only played the harp, but doing both at the same time is unbelievable.

    H.... S....

Agree. He still plays in NY at a club every week.. forget the name.

  59. M.... R....

    I love this one...it called... i smell trouble....exactly now i smell trouble..the double trouble....

  60. M.... R....

The blues had the baby and it name is rock n rool...by muddy waters..

  61. M.... R....

He make me flying with this...

  62. D.... T....

An older friend turned me onto Johnny when I was 14 and just starting to learn the guitar.. I've long since lost touch with that friend, but my guitar and Johnny have been a big part of my life for the 41 years since. No blues guitarist can touch him.

    D.... T....

    Right on me to.

  63. K.... B....

    Awesome harmonica that guy wails!

  64. Z.... N....

    Johnny is the BEST!

  65. S.... M....

Johnny winter is still best slideguitar player in The hole wide world....duane is not an bluesguitar player and he dont play slideguitar in The same way Johnny do or did... Please listen to Johnnys album: Johnny winter captured live.... Highway 61 revisited.!

    S.... M....

Sten Mark you got that right.

    S.... M....

Had to respond to your comment.I absolutely agree!Your are the first I've ever read to single out that particular version of that particular song.I loved that live version when I first heard it on KSJO in San Jose in @ 1977(thanks to dj Tom Mix),I still love it now over 41 years later, and I reckon I'll love it till my dyin' day.As one JDW aficionado to another,I salute you sir.

  66. G.... C....

  69. b.... ....

Thanks for sharing, truly a wizard!and the bass player is n slouch!!Cheers Johnny was the real deal!!

  70. D.... B....

I've always been able to identify Johnny within 10 notes. Sometimes those notes came in 10 seconds and sometimes in .5 seconds. So glad that I was born when I was so I can appreciate great guitar playing. Feel sorry for kids today who think Kanya is talented. The Winter brothers. That's talent.

    D.... B....

Doug Bohling Both fully formed musicians as teenagers

  77. J.... b....

after A Hard Day's Work cold beer and Johnny Winter

    J.... b....

Working and listening it is even better hehe

  78. G.... C....

    And from now on..
I will not run and hide..
gonna face trouble with a smile..
And hope it pass me by..

  79. J.... G....

How can somebody put thumbs down on this song.............guys that are obviously in the wrong place.......should be somewhere else because here........they do not belong!

    J.... G....

There are a lot of haters for the blues.

The problem is most of the blues follows one scale and count. This makes all the songs sound the same when you learn how it's done. Johnny Winter is very mundane in this way.

Imagine painting something, then watching a ton of other artists paint the exact same picture over and over again. It becomes a chore to spectate it.

Some people really enjoy listening to it.

I enjoy playing the blues but listening to someone else play the same shiz is boring to me. I wouldn't down vote, but some dudes might.

    J.... G....

    It was probably Eric Clapton.

  80. L.... M....

Randy Joe Hobbs is the bass player on this set not Jon Paris.

    L.... M....

montreux 1984 jon paris is the bass player
jo hobbs played from 1970 to 1976 with johnny

    L.... M....

Yep. I introduced Johnny & Jon @ Pop's Tavern, 3rd Ave. & 13th St., NYC Johnny was playing an old man's dive bar w/ Louisiana Red. Jon Paris happened to walking up the ave. playin' his harp & I suggested stepping inside. After the jam session, Johnny & Jon continued what they did best: playing the blues.

  81. H.... H....

    My blues Hero

  82. S.... B....

    Brazil 💘 Johnny Winter.

    S.... B....

Yeahh. Johnny is the number one..

  83. S.... M....

Johnny is my hero and his always has be.I think that he play guitar and sing better than srv did.....!! Johnny are The Best slideguitar player Ever...!

    S.... M....

    Different styles, same blues!

    S.... M....

Now Johnny and Stevie where two of my favorites ..... I would never want to one against the other as they both played the best they could each in their own way
But both inbraced the blues and kept it alive for the generations to come -both worked with the legions of the blues and always treated them with respect that they so deserved
And sadly they both passed away much too soon ,but either one will be every forgotten

    S.... M....

I don’t know about play guitar as well as Stevie, but he sure has got some grisly growly pipes, much better than SRV IMO

    S.... M....

Johnny taught Stevie how to play ;-) Listen to the first Columbia release "Johnny Winter"
