I love Johnny Mathis for some of the most memorable songs while growing up, yes. And this is nice. But the composer Box Scaggs has it over everyone - "Outside the rain begins" - listen to Bob Scaggs version and you'll understand.

I have been a fan of him since started singing. I have many of his songs, but I know I don't have them all. But I'm working on it. There is no other singer that can hold a note as long as he can and not seem to be working hard at it. He just naturally flows from one word to another and one note to another. No problem. Absolutely fantastic.

God does send angels for us, sometimes for a short while, sometimes for 75 years - as is the case with this fabulous singer: Johnny Mathis. He certainly has given joy to all his fans worldwide..The greatest singer ever in this lifetime!

I know that Rita Coolidge had a hit with this song and that Boz Scaggs wrote it and sang it first, but Johnny Mathis' rendition *rocks*. I think he does sing those last 2 words in 1 breath. Gives me goosebumps!

To paraphrase the Beatles's "Hey Jude", Johnny would "take a love song and make it better". Endlessly better. So much better, is a matter of fact, that sometimes you couldn't remember who else sang it!
Although most of Johnny's top ten recordings are from the late '50s, I prefer his '60s output. With infallible taste he recorded the best of the '60s romantic catalog and he made them all his own. Such as this beautiful song which always brings tears to my eyes.
