To GC, who cares about awards, any intelligent person knows Johnny Mathis is deserving of a Kennedy center award. It is all for show and the insecure person might be bothered by not getting awards but l don't think Johnny Mathis is. His gift to the world to see him still performing at 83 and doing it well is more valuable than a colored ribbon around his neck and fake people in the room.clapping for him. How many of the people who have received this award can share the gift they have at 83. Think about it. Johnny Mathis is a legend and my musical hero.

Have had the good fortune of hearing Johnny Mathis in concert on three occasions : 1978, 1981, and 2012. His voice was still as strong as ever over those years. On the strength of his vocals and for such a longevity of career, he deserves every music lifetime achievement award possible. Hopefully all those associations have already done so. Please come back to Ontario soon.

What a mixed blend voice!

When I was in high school, my boyfriend and I snuck (sp) into the Greek Theater to watch a Johnny Mathis concert. We ended up sitting on a tree outside of the theater, along with others around us. The folks near our area kept yelling..."queer, freak, homo, freak", etc. I was disgusted !! And Johnny sang right thru it all.....a performer thru and thru.

This name, Jah, is a shortened form of the Creator's name, Jehovah, and Jah is still written in the KJV of the Bible. The Creator's full name, Jehovah, is still in the original scrolls (kept under lock and key in Jerusalem) over 4 thousand times written in the tetragrammaton (meaning "four letters"), YHWH. There are many other places ancient scrolls show the full name, Jehovah, the personal name of our divine creator of life. Hi Tony. Having your son taken from you by means of death is a terrible loss. Did you know that the song Johnny Mathis sings, "Hallelujah", actually means "Praise be to Jah"? Jah is the shortened name for Jehovah, which means "He who causes to become". Yes, it is the actual name of the Creator of all in this entire Universe. Jehovah did not originally create the first man and woman to die. The initial intent was that they become fruitful and fill the entire earth, starting in a park like garden. Jah created man with the ability to choose what he would do, just as He did the Angelic beings whose home is in heaven. Jehovah created man to be the head of his wife and children, with the wife being in subjection to her husband and the children to have respect for their parents. The Grammy's are a political organization, first and foremost.

Maybe Clive Davis can have some political influence this year. John has never won a Grammy.....and what about The Kennedy Center Awards?!!! What a joke they have become.

With the people that The Kennedy Center is now honoring, I consider Dr. John Mathis too far above that kind of talent to even be in that category any longer.

So sad it didn't even receive a nomination!

I only hope that he realizes how many people in this world truly honor him for the person that he is and his magnificent vocalizations.

I attended my first Mathis Concert at Cane Park Theater in Cleveland in Summer of 1959, then stood almost next to him that year as he hit the switch to turn the Christmas lights on in Cleveland's Public Square. I have probably attended every Cleveland concert since that time. That velvet voice only gets better! We're both older Johnny but you sure handle it well! The music, and the choices for each album just keep getting better! I just received my albums and the disc from the PBS concert and now I have to go out to buy this one! Just warms my heart!
