Johnny Cash - You're The Nearest Thing To Heaven Lyrics
I have sailed the peaceful waters of the ocean deep and blue
I held my breath and watched the western sunsets golden hue
I've flown above the mountain peaks and valleys wide and green
But you're the nearest thing to heaven that I've seen
I have searched for happiness so long and far
But my search for love was through the day that I found you
Cause you're the nearest thing to heaven yes you are
I confess that I've been tempted by a luring magic charms
When the smile was flashed my way and stood before two open arms
But I turned and walked away because I love you like I do
You're the nearest thing to heaven darlin' you
You're the nearest thing to heaven...
I have watched the silver raindrops fall to earth to cool the day
Watched the rainbow at twilight when the clouds had blown away
I love the pretty flowers but they cannot buy the worth
Cause you're the nearest thing to heaven on this earth
You're the nearest thing to heaven...

Johnny Cash saw me through many dark nights.
My car headlamps never did work.
So schön
Cold case brought me here.😇😇😇😇❤❤❤❤
Love johnny cash great voice thanks for all music 2019 god bless you
Oh how I love this song !
It's quite sad to think about how this song was lost in time. How he only sang this song only once Live. Such a great song, it expresses such love and tells a great story.
I wish this song was more popular.
Memories of my dad playing this way back in 1958 . The year my mam died .
So Beautiful.Through Your Songs Your Still With Us ❤🎸❤
This is my grandfather Hoyt Johnsons' song. "It's a little more like heaven (where you are)." He and Hoyt were close friends. If you love this song, look up Hoyt Johnson
I did look up your grandfather. He has some good music. There is quite a bit of it on You tube.
What a wonderful song and most beautiful words Mr John Cash is singing and found later in June Carter Cash his Nearest Thing to Heaven great wife.
i love this song always have
What a great song.
You are heaven on earth. I love you so.
You will always be my heaven. 8❤️
Great job johnny!
hank snows a little more like heaven is just like this but hank made it first so John stole this
This is from 1958, and Hank's is from 1964. Johnny Cas rewrote some of the same song written by Hoyt Johnson. He gave Hoyt Johnson, and another writing credit on the song. Johnsons version of the song was covered by, Norma Jean, Hank Snow, and Hank Locklin. The melody is different, and some of the words have been rewritten. So no Johnny Cash stole nothig from no one.

Playing this at my wedding tomorrow. Long live JC
my old mum used to sing this song, but it had a different meaning when she sang the opening few bars! and she sang it real loud when I was a kid and had nicked the wheels off her bike!
Johnny was Dad's fave (also Ernest Tubb), mine too. I have a Sun Record by 'The Man In Black' that I treasure.
Always loved this song, such beautiful words.
My husband-to-be sang "You're the nearest thing to Heaven" to me from 1958. Married over 50 years. Viola Smith
respekt,ilove people who stay together.Lasse
My oldest brother married his high school sweetheart at the age of 68 and this was their wedding song. Good for them.
Learned this song at age 5 with Mom's help. Always brings back memories.
Of all the songs I could've picked to commemorate Johnny 's birthday today,my heart chose this one/RIP
"You're the nearest thing to heaven, YESH you are".......puts me in mind of Sean Connery.
Johnny Cash didn't have no "B" side. All his stuff was "A" material.
CashPresley32 do you even now what he meant??
I think this can be said also of Buddy Holly.
i just love the song
@Scotseasy the same about richey valens ❤❤❤❤❤❤

It's just as dangerous
My wife and I had our 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 22, 2012 and we repeated our vows. Later on stage, I sang her this song and the lyrics describe exactly how I feel about her. Your the 'Nearest ting to Heaven' has been a fovorite of mine since 1958.
@moviemaker826, Alcohol can be dangerous too!
@MrBuckwilliam Alcohol isn't as dangerous.
@moviemaker826 no, i fooled with drugs in my late teens and gave up on them in my early twenties... except for a few times i also cut alcohol out of my life too.
peace :)
@MrBuckwilliam Hopefully you don't do drugs. I mean about your brain working.
@Lampadas90

lol, johnny cash sang this song in a dream i had a few years back. you know how sometimes, if there is a radio or tv on, a song playing will be in your dream? there wasn't any music on in the house. it was so real too and very beautiful. i don't recall ever having heard the song until that day. i'll remember that as long as my brain works
i love this!!!!!!!!!
