Johnny Cash - Red Velvet Lyrics

Four months ago in April a day-coach she came down
And the dusty autumn winds began to blow
Should have known I couldn't hold her livin' out so far from town
And the nights to come are long and slow to go

If I had known before we kissed
You can't keep red velvet on a bordered farm like this
Well now she's up and left me she went a walkin' down the line
And the dusty autumn winds began to blow
All dressed up in red velvet and her high-heel shoes so fine
And the nights to come are long and slow to go

Well I sit and count December stars while they dance around
And the dusty autumn winds began to blow
Then I'll call my dog and I'll take the truck and I'll ride on into town
And the nights to come are long and slow to go

If I had known before we kissed
You can't keep red velvet on a bordered farm like this
Well now she's up and left me she went a walkin' down the line
And the dusty autumn winds began to blow
All dressed up in red velvet and her high-heel shoes so fine
And the nights to come are long and slow to go

Your'e right about Johnny not writing it, but the funny thing is that he actually loved the song, he thought it was "what he had been looking for" and that it would be one of his career defining songs, but it turned out nobody else liked it

  3. E.... L....

he did not hate this song he loved it while everyone else hated it he actually thought ''this is it this is the song this is the one'' he thought it was going to be a hit but he was wrong

  4. M.... ....

Cash loved the record. In an interview with Larry King, Larry asked him what song he thought was gonna be a massive hit but ended up the opposite, and he said Red Velvet. He felt everyone would love it like he did but nobody did. But yes Ian Tyson wrote it. If you wanna see the interview its on youtube just paste this in the search bar: Larry King Live with Johnny Cash (2002) part 6 (the red velvet part comes in at 1:50)

WTF was he thinkin this song be a hit? it makes me laugh. lol

@MrPach19 He didn't hate it, he liked it and believed that it would a be a hit, but others did not feel the same way so he had to leave it and move on to other things.
