John Prine - Same Thing Happened To Me Lyrics

Moonlight shining on the back of my hand
Cat fight rattlin' the garbage can
Looks like somethin' chased you up a tree
Same thing, same thing happened to me

Wild wind blowing down the neck of my shirt
Old men sitting on a bench in the dirt
Seems that another ship has gone out to sea
Same thing, same thing happened to me

Shoe shine someone's got to tell ya the news
A fine line separates a boy from the blues
Looks like you could use some company
Same thing, same thing happened to me

Runnin', runnin' just as fast as I can
Someone, someone take a hold of my hand
Looks like somethin' chased you up a tree
Same thing, same thing happened to me
Same thing, same thing happened to me.

the notion that "same thing happens to me" pretty much makes it universal (whatever da f..k that means)....humanity I reckon or maybe just John Prine

This is what country music SHOULD have become. Honest, real and not sold out to Hollywood!

    m.... ....

Interesting... I said the same thing about Fred Eaglesmith. This is where country SHOULD have gone.

  29. J.... C....

    Yeah John

  30. T.... R....

Love it when country finds its blues pocket

    T.... R....

I used to call what Prine did "mock country". He ended up country when the outlaws gained poipularity and city folks started becoming country stars

my all time favorite is please don't bury me. I've been listening to John since 1973, I saw him at a Flaritys in 1977.

  33. P.... B....

John never gets old. Been listening to him for 37yrs since my dad introduced me to his music at 12. I use to make mix tapes of his music and give them away to people i knew would like his music. And most of them are still fans I'm sure!!!

    P.... B....

me too same thing happened to me

  34. C.... B....

My dad played this song for me in our first house we lived in. I would have been maybe 4 or 5 at the time. My mom and dad would dance around the living room to it. Finally got reconnected with this song. It brings back some great memories and John Prine is one hell of a musician.

    C.... B....

    John only john

  35. T.... C....

Nobody like you, Mr. Prine...I have for many years enjoyed the process of trying to play your songs!

  36. T.... ....

    THE GREAEST

  37. S.... G....

As with so many John Prine songs, there's a lot more to this than first meets the ear.  I discovered this when I learned it so I could sing it too.

  38. A.... F....

That's for sure the best song performed by the great John Prine.

    A.... F....
