John Prine - Killing The Blues Lyrics
Leaves were falling..Just like embers
In colors red and gold they set us on fire
Burning just like a moonbeam...in our eyes
[Chorus:]
Swinging the world by the tail
Bouncing over a white cloud.
Killing the Blues
I am guilty of something
I hope you never do because there is nothing
Sadder than losing.. yourself in love
[Chorus 2x]
To go out on my own and get what I need to
You want me to find..what I've already had
[Chorus 4x]

John Prine Killing The Blues Comments
This is by far the best rendition of this song ever. You go Mr. Prine!!!!
My dad use to pay this song, now I now find myself playing this after he has passed away.
Chris Smither killed Killing the Blues.
Swinging the world by the tale dear John
Ah the album pink Cadillac.. I used to love looking at the photos while listening. How lucky can one man get. Great songs. Great times. Roll on John. 😎
Chris Smither in Paris

Roly Salley's best!!
proviso east high school....first ave. and the kids at the Huddle salute John....
If I ever write a song that gets covered by both John Prine and Chris Smither, I will be a happy man.
Best version ever, even better than the original. My opinion, of course! John is fantastic!
Love this music truly one in a million Makes a person feel right down to earth awesome !!!!!!

goddamn this is shit quality
So Good
Loving this version.
What an amazing talent.
Killing the Blues of a Love ... you want me to find what I already had??
Kris Kristofferson said that when Johnny Cash sings your song, it becomes a Johnny Cash song even though you wrote Sunday Morning Comin Down. Killin' the Blues has become a John Prine song written by Roland Salley.
One time I heard A Boy Named Sue on the radio and the DJ said "who but Johnny Cash could have written a song like that?". A few minutes later he read out a text from a listener: "Shel Silverstein, actually".
John Prine. A national treasure. And what a great version of Rowland Salley's song, Killing the Blues. Be sure to check out Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's version of this beautiful tune. Peace all!
In my humble opinion Chris Smithers version is the best.
@Paul Kelleher ...Chris tells a story where he is approached after a concert by a fan who tells him "thats how Killing the Blues " is supposed to sound, to which Chris says "oh, I didn't write that song" and the fellow says " i know, I did"!
😭💙
Well, Allen..I'm the one killin the blues now..Miss you much, R.I.P. Love ♥ (Beautiful Song)
Love John Prine but the best version of this on youtube is by Malcolm Holcomb. Check it out.
lesterross1, Check Out Chris Smithers live performance of this song in France. Very intimate. God bless.
You'd need a heart of stone not to love this wonderful song.
Credit where credit is due: Rowland Salley write this song. His recording and live performance are both on YouTube.
Somebody said they saw me
Best lyrics ever.....thank you John Prine for writing and sharing one of the best songs I know of.....a true hero.
Written by Rowland Salley. Not too difficult to research this.
beautiful
great to here this by the person who wrote it ...what amazing words .
+Jeannie Campbell this was written by Rowland Salley.
Oh I thought I read that this guy wrote it ...I love Sean Keanes version ...amazing !
+Jeannie Campbell Yeah, it follows that most versions of such a terrific song would be moving. I like Ed Gerhard's instrumental take on it really well, too. There's a video of him doing it where he names the author of the song. Other than that, I wouldn't have known. I never heard it until Alison Krauss and Robert Plant covered it. Reckon that makes me a newbie about this song!
Check out Chris Smithers version
John sang this last weekend at his concert. Try to imagine it with mandolin and slide guitar accompaniment....pretty near to the prettiest song I've ever heard. Can't listen to it w/o a teardrop....last weekend and every time since.
That's as good as it gets.
I love you Dad.
R.I.P. Wayne Cossey
The first time I ever heard this song, it was on the Raising Sand CD by Alison Kraus and Robert Plant. I fell in love with it then. This is quite different, and I find it just as pleasing.
hicknan219 This is John Prines song.
@Vicki Reed It was Rowland Salley's song (he is/was the bass player in Chris Isaak's band). Lots of people have covered it; besides Prine and Plant & Krauss, Sean Keane (the Irish folk singer) and Shawn Colvin among them.
The man responsible for the music career of Ray Lamontagne.. Wow.
heart song no doubt .....Merry Christmas and a sweet NewYear to everyone ..
A sole brought this song to me. It goes way deep into my heart.
awesome.... I listen to this remembering my friend, and husband...Bryan.... RIP my friend
love this...thank you
A great cover by a true great who's never had the full recognition he deserves. Someone in the UK who does a wonderful version of this is Joe Brown whose later work deserves a lot of respect.Apparently they,re good friends,
Nice wallpaper, it looks some the vintage stuff in some of those irish cottages after some old fella smoked there for a few years, I like it! What a great song!
John has a house in Kinvara Galway Ireland . could be there
I completely concur and I was waiting for ever for someone to post this too since I only had it on a very old vinyl album and no record player. Such a soulful song and rendition of it, so moody. It's just the best.
r.i.p. tony baker. i love you daddy! love, gus
Love this ♥
Info on the writer, Rowland Salley, is available in wikipedia.
