I love this version of Bear Creek Blues, too. John Prine's arrangement of it reminds me a lot of some of Johnny Cash's songs.

I couldn't stand not to search this before reading your post. Great minds. The original Carter Family tune is awesome, in it's own way. Prine totally nails this one with his version. My second thought was, this sounds like a Johnny Cash song. Sort of.
