Seymour, Indiana. My mamaw was in the same class as him. Great guy from what she told me. She went to the local bar and heard him perform to a very small audience before he was famous. She also recalls that Mellencamp's mother earned the title "The prettiest woman in Seymore, IN." at the time she had him.
