John Mellencamp - R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A. (A Salute To 60's Rock) Lyrics
They come from the cities
And they come from the smaller towns
Beat up cars with guitars and drummers
Goin crack boom bam
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Yeah, Yeah!
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Said goodbye to their families
Said goodbye to their friends
With pipe dreams in their heads
And very little money in their hands
Some are black and some are white
With the blind faith of Jesus you know that they just might, be
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Hey!
Voices from nowhere
And voices from the larger towns
Filled our head full of dreams
Turned the world upside down
There was Frankie Lyman-Bobby Fuller-Mitch Ryder
(They were Rockin')
Jackie Wilson-Shangra-las-Young Rascals
(They were Rockin')
Spotlight on Martha Reeves
Let's don't forget James Brown
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Hey!
[Chorus]

JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP
The more I listen to R.O.C.K. In The USA, I think of my older brother and my sister in law. They're a fun-loving couple who likes going out on weekends.🎵🎶
US Billboard Hot 100 #2 (Apr 5, 1986) | the Best Music Video! 🗽🇺🇲 ⚜
Wow, haven't heard this song in awhile, perhaps decades...takes me back in time when I was a little tyke. Hearing these oldies...they sound better even now compared to when I was little.
Still rocking for you uncle Adrian.
I grew up listening to John Cougar and Bob Seger. Man, I was so lucky¡
I feel real lucky to listen to John mellencamp's music. John mellencamp is an American Treasure. He has represented American values his entire life. You want downhome, smalltown, rural, even city life in America? Here you have it.
appreciating 80s song which in turn is about 60s.
I'm from Boston and I have to say this is one of the most underrated

I usually hate this style of music and most other BS you hear around the fourth of July, and don't even get me started on Bruce Springsteen....
But I do kind of like this one song. I like the groovy beat and the guitar work.
Who could give this video and song a thumbs down? Idiot.
kickass rocabilly by little bastard

Ocarina... that's the best part. Captures a certain area of 1960s pop rock perfectly.
top 40 radio in the 60's, man! all in mono on a transistor radio.
Stranger things
Stranger Things’ soundtrack (S3!!!) 😝💗
Hi Stranger Things fans
Apparently this is going to be in season 3 of Stranger Things.

And it's AMAZING
Boyette show them around
I was never a Mellencamp fan (I downright HATE fucking "Jack and Diane" - the reason is personal). But this song is good. In my opinion his best.
MY FAMILY IS IN THIS
He is spot with his observation. Great bass line on this song.
Nicevideoinsync
Who came here from Bless This Mess?

Love you guy!!!!!!!
I used to play this song on my sax back in the 80s!
love ya John (but youtube sucks)
Great music
Luck just so had it that I was born in the 50s. So....I got to enjoy the beginning of R and R, the "swinging 60s", the wild 70's and 80's and the crazier 90's. By that time I was ready for some rest (but too much). Thanks gals and gals.....for all the great sounds you gave us!!!
Thank you!!!
Am I the only one that hears a certain similarity between this song and "On the Dark Side" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band?
Edit: and "What I Like About You" by the Romantics?
Disagree with "On the dark side" and somewhat agree with "What I like about you"
It reminds me of Cherry Cherry by Neil Diamond.
The Video that ended with the American Bandstand look was one of the Best overall Videos just for the set design.
With the Black Singers providing the rhythm look and the White band providing the sound.
I wish it had really been that way in the 60's.
Lot of Bands had a mixture like that but could not get air time and Damn sure would not get booked for concerts due to the simple minded people of that era.
And before anyone says it was just in the South don't kid yourself.
That was a problem on a National level in every region of the Country .
And I'm sad to report it's still going on from BOTH sides today.
I have read the Bible from the front to the back and listened and talked to top Pastors and nobody has ever shown me a single verse that says there are any gated communities in Heaven.
If you don't like ANY other races other than your own, You don't have to worry about seeing them in Heaven.
You won't be going there .
Then explain Booker T & The M.G.'s.

yes mate the 80s were a great year 👍
@geoff webber *decade*
When your kid has to spell ROCK for their spelling test. Here kid, listen to this song...
R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A. is my favorite song sung by John Mellencamp! Scarecrow is my favorite album too with Uh-Huh! not far behind. It's a simple enough song, but very catchy with an excellent beat by my favorite drummer Kenny Aronoff. R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A. ranks as my 15th favorite song of all time!
Great Song!! Fort Yates,North Dakota!!
This song was stuck in my head for 15 years
"I'm sorry, I truly am, I'm truly sorry. Truly, Sorry."--?.... lmao love JCM.
I thought this was just a commercial! Its a pretty cool, and catchy song!
Great song... Can't help but think John got the idea for the song from Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke? It's the same basic theme of saluting musical inspirations.
New Nissan commercial brought me here . . .
subway244 same
subway244 Same here. ;)

Also the country is now full of batshit liberals. More like C.U.C.K.I.N. in the US
Ya !! cause we are TIRED of having so many jobs, and the economy being Sooo good ... that now all my Liberal friends lost their excuse to live in Mommy's basement! We HATE that right? Oh... and how MAD are we at Trump for collusion with Russia to find the evidence that MY choice of President was a inept , corrupt, bribe taking, lying, politician who was only out for herself! Damb Trump.....

E-A-D-B in the USA!
E-A-D-B in the USA!
Those were days .....!
It's classic song about getting together in garages and bars all across USA
Still sounds great
John M. is so right. If you grew up in the 60's you were lucky, 'cause radio was great: In one day, you could hear The Beatles, Motown, Roger Miller, instrumentals, Louis Armstrong, European songs, movie themes, blues, R&B....all kinds of music.
Fucking peach....& still is...
apparently a salute to 60s rock means ripping off another more popular 80s song(what i like about you)
What made you think that this is a rip off of the song What I like about you by the Romantics? I don't hear it.
In Russia We sing "U.S.S.R. in the USA"...............
OK. NOW POUR THE VODKA
Good luck USA.. whoever the president is
Thank you...come by and say hello some time.
hahahahaahahahahaha you are killing !!
@Maria Pratiwi what a beautiful comment
@Word Unheard i just wonder if you are such an a-hole in real life or just save it up for the comments sections of a cool song in youtube? i mean ... come on dude. you are accusing some dude of racism and other assorted sins because he thinks differently than you. really? you dont see how screwed up that is? and by that i mean your response to his thinking differently than you, not his thinking different ;)
MATTY PATRICIA THE USA PREZ. GO LIONS
...and so i said to Mr Springsteen...'listen Brucey mate.. THIS is Rock n Roll.' Ain't it just. Happy days.. love from across the pond. 🐓💨
I always thought this was a Bruce Springsteen song.
He sounds so much like Bruce in this.
I feel so dumb, it took 30 years to find this out..........
P.S. Never cared for Bruce but now I appreciate his work and many others in my later years.
