I thought, for some strange reason it was young guitarist, the kind often showcased on YouTube, I mentioned it to a friend who said hell no, shes met him, he's our age (60's) and used to play with I think - Jefferson Airplane, back in the day. Yeah, we're old AF. By the way, the woman in Mellencamps crazy good video was the cover girl on the Sports Illustrated big edition in 2014, and on the cover of Elle a handful of times. I thought she might've been just a girl who lived down the road, hard working farm girl, baling hay, eating ribs and washing them down with whole milk. None of that skin n bones shit.

Hey people, That old guy was my next door neighbor back then...He's in a nursing home now, he was a nice guy. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He got paid next to nothing to do that video, and Ashley got all the fame. The video was controversial back then, and it made all the news stations in New York at least. Mark you are right about the story, the dancer that they fired was from Italy, and Arty (the name of the guy that actually danced with Ashley, rode in on his Harley with his dog in a basket in the rear of the Bike.  That's when they made the decision to have Arty dance with Miss Richardson. We called him Big Arty, He has a son named Arty Jr, and two other sons, Richard, and Roger who passed away at the age of 50. Big Arty lived at the seaplane base in Verplank N.Y. where the video was filmed.He was a welder and he lived in the trailer home that you see in the back round of the video. I was his neighbor when he lived in White Plains N.Y., from there he moved to Ossining then to Verplank........He just happened to be at the right place at the right time.....

@Nash Burnette It really was not controversy, I think ScotS using a too strong a word to describe it. When the video was released I do recall seeing on the news magazine show called "A Current Affair" about the video—and they presented a report about this music video along the lines of "Ashley and Arty, what's going on there?" implying that they were a couple, or seeing each other—which was not true, wish it was though.

When I was in high school and this song was on MTV I loved it, I loved watching the girl (Ashley Richardson) dance... little did I know that I was bisexual, perhaps this song is what tipped me over the edge.

Great story behind this video...The crew showed up to shoot with the girl and a sexy male model. The old guy with the Mohawk was just standing by watching and dancing a bit. The director looked at his crew, pointed at the male model and said "Get him out of here. He's fired! I want that old guy right there!!!!". The rest is history.
