John Martyn - The Easy Blues Lyrics

Mister jelly roll baker
Can I please be your slave
When Gabriel blows his horn
I'm going to rise from my grave
For your sweet jelly roll
You bake the best jelly roll in town
You're the only man bakes jelly
And you keep your damper down

They say: Can I place an order for three weeks ahead
I'd rather have your jelly than my home-baked bread
'Cause I'm just crazy about you jelly
I'm so wild about your jelly roll
You're the only man bakes jelly
And you keep it in your soul

You can take all my women
You can sure keep them all
I got a brand new secret
That you can't catch on to at all
I'm a jelly roll baker
I bake the best jelly roll in town
I'm the only man bakes jelly
And I keep my damper down

I'm the only man bakes jelly and I keep my damper down
I'm the only man bakes jelly and I keep my damper down

    Bloody awesome!

  2. T.... R....

    Incredible !

  3. J.... B....

God Bless you,a lotta love & respect John Martyn,R.I.P Your music will live on & stand the test of time forevermore ..You are sorely missed x

  4. T.... A....

so close and yet so far away, I missed you that night and always will.

  5. E.... ....

That's in G so what'his guitar tuned to?

    E.... ....

Cant see a G chord in that song. The strings maybe all tuned down though instead of standard but like a tone lower. But the song is A E and D with f# bass though with most of the song filled with hammer ons and pull offs that take some practice. The song is driven by the way he plucks and slaps the strings in his right hand. Great tune.

    E.... ....

@kiltimaghlad All i know is when I tune to concert, Johns A is in my G?

    E.... ....

@nRg risn Is in standard tuning though. Though maybe tone down.... if yo know what i mean. When he plays the E chord check if your low E is in tune to that. if no its probably tuned lower by a tone. I don't have a guitar at the moment to check myself.

    E.... ....

@kiltimaghlad He just went with the tuning that fitted what he was doing I think. Dopped E to D, variations on d a d g a d etc. That takes some doing with one guitar which he must have gigged on one time, but i noticed as yiome went on, three would be a main num for him, one being electric. Personally I am a bit of a acoustic/electric. Drop you some links of a guy I became freinds with, and even one to one jam's!

    E.... ....

John Martyn had loads of tunings, so many songs he did different ones from dropped D to dadgad to variations round C and C minor... he got some lovely melodies out of them

The Late Great... Many great memories of the man, his music and his gigs... Feel privileged to have known him albeit briefly and had him play on home turf for many a year! Great Loss in his passing!

  7. B.... ....

i am a huge John Martyn fan, but Joe Bonamassa blows john right out the water with his version.

    B.... ....

Joe has a much better technique and Joe is much cleaner in is fingering John is a much better singer than joe

    B.... ....

That might be so, but Bona doesn't have the feel of John, not by a mile. He's good for advertising or demonstrating gear.

    B.... ....

    +Bob b agree 100 %

    B.... ....

What colour is the sky in your world? JM Owns this!

    B.... ....

  10. J.... A....

And Mr. Martyn, you are very welcome in my space, wherever you are now.

  11. J.... A....

Mama loves this in the very FIRST degree, baby. Got the best way to keep my OLD MAN rollin', even if he don't know the blues like we do. Gotta appreciate it all, but you've gotta be true to your own music, too. No matter how you got to do it. Me, I'll just never get married again. Gotta keep my own space.
