John Martyn - She Moved Through The Fair Lyrics
My young love said to me
My mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you
For your lack of kind
And this she did say
It will not be long, love
Till our wedding day
She stepped away from me
And she went through the fair
And fondly I watched her
Move here and move there
And then she went homeward
As the swan in the evening
Moves over the lake
Last night she came to me
My true love came in
And softly she came
That her feet made no din
And she laid her hand on me
It will not be long, love
Till our wedding day

John Martyn She Moved Through The Fair Comments
Probably the most beautiful version I've heard. Absolutely beautiful in its simplicity.
Mrs. Hudson Jave you heard Tina Lawton?
this is ancient. the soul of centuries
Art Garfunkel also covered this song on one of his solo LP in the 70's.
The only other version of "She Moved through the Fair" that I'm really familiar with is Loreena McKennitt's version, which is haunting. But this one is really pretty, and much more low-key.
Thank you, Mr Travis Clay, for sharing this gift from John Martyn..
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet
Achingly, hauntingly, astonishingly beautiful. What a soul.
Like this a lot. I believe Alison Kraus and The Chieftains did a very haunting turn on this also.
I'm 50 years old, known John Martyn for 35 years and I've just found this! thank you.
his best album by far
