John Martyn - Go Down Easy Lyrics
You curl around me
Like a fern in the spring
Lie down here
Let me sing the things you bring
Oh my lover, we can go down easy
Oh my darling, we can go down easy
And come up and see me
With your big brown eyes
Come around to my place
You know I'll sympathise
And we can go down easy
Oh my lover, we can go down easy
I won't be fancy
But I will be free
You know I love you
And you can really talk to me
And we can go down easy
Oh my darling, we can go down easy
Oh my lover, we can go down easy
You curl around me
Like a fern in the spring
Lie down here
Let me sing the things you bring
And we can go down easy
Oh my lover, we can go down easy
Oh my darling, we can go down easy

Takes me back to when I bought the album in 1973 - it's as good today as it was back then. Whereever you are Iain, hope you're still making music - you're so missed here on Planet Earth. R.I.P. 🖤

My favourite song of all time. John you are so missed xxx
Glorious bass, ringing strings, implied rhythms and three saxophones of a voice, unsurpassed.
Thank you for uploading...your pictures are well chosen...I saw him play many times...everyone has said all there is to be said.
A year's passed without a comment so I had to post something .... you're still the best John
This song encapsulates just exactly why this mans music is utterly sublime in every way. Thanks for listing it.
Just brings a tear to your eye
Simply superb. John @ his finest.

Anyone who put a thumbs down on this tune is obviously devoid of any brain function.Either that or they listen to the likes of X factor drivel.

20 thumbs downs !! I am curious .. what's not to like ?
listened to this when i turned 18. just remember the room in green dark light, and this song
A hidden gem of song, one to discover for sure. Curl around me like a fern in the spring... sublime.
Agreed :-) "May You Never" can't touch this. This is pure alchemy ☼
Amen... there with you...
Agreed - fabulous...
this is the best lyric ever. i start to feel like crying after three seconds
There's another version of this song on 'On The Cobbles', which is more instrumental, but I think is just as magical in it's own way. Martyn knew he had struck solid gold, knew he couldn't avoid reframing the original idea.
dicono che era uno stronzo autodistruttivo,ma lui ha lasciato qualcosa di veramente bello...tanti altri sono solo stronzi e non lasciano niente!
DEEP love.point
fantastic.RIP big John
Absolutely timeless.
Absolutely timeless.
I would love to find a good live version of this song. No luck so far. Any ideas?
very doubtful but the man was prolific as fuck so there might be a bootleg cutting about somewhere
There was a live studio version of an older John Martyn doing a gorgeous rendition with even smokier vocals on Youtube about 4 years ago. Don't know what happened to it but it definitely exists out there somewhere. Good luck!
Brilliant
I love this music this is soul TRUE SOUL
Anyone else hearing Crosby, Stills and Nash in the opening?? This is so ooooo good!! Thanx again Mazrio 128 for your exquisite musical taste; still listening to Porcupine Tree - CHEERS MATE!! :)

Great track from a sublime album. My friends daughter just paid £300 for a pair of denims. I recently upgraded my cassette of Solid Air to a CD for £4.99. With good fortune I will still be listening to this in another twenty years to add to the thirty already gone. The amount of pleasure I have experienced through this album is so disproportionate to the financial outlay that I almost feel like a thief.
Just about the best comment I have ever read. Enjoy your tunes amigo!

Cheers John, enjoy yours.
even at his most 'commercial' he was astounding...a legend on the UK music lanscape
Bossman 1
Loved his music.
Had to smile at his comment just before his first live performance after his amputation
"If I find that I'm really rotten at it an' voice has gone or some fuckin things gone, coordination’s gone or I'm not feeling good with it I will leave quietly and think of something else, I'll make pop records (laughs), I'll make, third grade music is what I'll do, drop myself down a couple of notches, you know what I mean, I'll make bad music for money "
RIP John
Yes another place of consciousness, that is easy, almost like the Aquarian Age that is predicted. John ahead of his time.
From out another dimension of consciousness
He was a sort of fisherman you could say. Keith richards said that you fish out your good songs, i think so too, the same with painting or drawing.
THe first time I heard him I was trapped what a singer musician the best that God gave us and took him back
+Richard Khan I think you'll find that his parents gave us him, and alcoholism took him away! RIP an absolute legend. :(
This is a bolt from the blue. Am forced to tolerate so much crap music on a day to day basis. When i hear music like this I start to wonder..who are these cunts who stop me hearing this and make me hear the bleats of some prancing juvenile imbecile????
@Cass Collins :also listen to his friend:Nick Drake
@Bob Tangle Understand and agree in a way, but the guy wasn't an all together, ronded individual, and a lot of beautiful music is surrounded by very heavy emotions that carry the song and make it what it is, whether that emotion is conveyed through the notes or the vocals.
This song for instance, though not as morbid as some of his others, can really pull something out of you, sort of makes me want to cry with how beautiful it is. In western society self destructive tenancies and self sacrifice is (though a lifestyle of many) frowned upon, and mortality is ignored or seen as a depressing and morbid topic (Again this doesn't necessarily relate to JM, but Nick Drake, Joy division, Johnny Cash's later stuff.
All very different but shunned by most people why? Maybe because they haven;t heard it. But I think mostly because the music in the charts may offend, make people talk. But it doesn't necessarily upset or get you emotionally involved.
Pop music can be appreciated, for many reasons, and we dismiss chart music, but there are some aspects of it that are pleasing to some people and make them happy, whether we can understand that or not.
I've gone on for a while, agree with you in part. But I just think unpopular, yet complex and genius music does take a lot out of some people. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.
All music has a place just be happy that you know what you like. But I know what you mean and understand your anger, cause so many people would love shit like this yet are never exposed to it because of other stuff.
Fair enough. I should probably point out that I was fairly hammered on red wine when I typed that comment. I do love good fun inventive original pop music. Sometimes its hard to appreciate that a lot of people are satisfied with derivative and generic music. Ho hum.
+Tim I would add Sandy Denny to your list-a self-destructive troubled soul, but a great songwriter with one of the most beautiful voices ever recorded. These artists produced melancholy music, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it was depressing. In fact it can be uplifting but it is often challenging, as you say, and that is one of the reasons that it doesn't appeal to a mass market; one casual listen simply isn't enough for people to "get it". Some of my favourite songs have grown on me over time and I feel that melancholy music endures much better than upbeat "party" type music which, to me, is usually throwaway. The frustrating thing is that many people are often reluctant to listen to anything new or different, and if they do it might just be one listen (with distractions-i.e. not really listening). There are still plenty of great singer-songwriters around, but you have to really search for them away from the mainstream dross. On the plus side, lack of mass market appeal does mean that you can see many great artists play live in small venues at a reasonable price rather than in soulless arenas!
I couldn't agree more!
Brown eyes, like deep wells of the Soul.
You curl around me
Like a fern in the spring

And We can go down easy
Oh my lover, we can go down easy
Oh my darling, we can go down easy.

i love both. but agreed.
Thrilled to have been introduced to this artist. Amazing!
Daft Punk - John Martyn? Compare and contrast. Nope, you're right. No contest.
Nice. Always a balm for a troubled mind is our John (-:
OMG I so love this..............
I hear a lot of people on Reverbnation who sound like this.
can you send me any link of those, please?
my soul has gone up into the sky. just..wow..
chill out to this..:)
Wow! I cried first time I heard this!!!!! Choon!!!!
Eight months ago I forgot to simply say thank you very much for uploading / sharing!
Please accept my thanks ..
Maybe, but i don´t think Martyn was that close to Drake so that he would be in despair 4 him. I guess no one was! Martyn referred to Nick as the most withdrawn person he had ever met. But the song he wrote to Nick "Solid Air", while Nick was still alive, is evidence of love for Nick, on some level.
"you curl around me like a fern in the spring" perhaps the most touching and beautiful thing ever written
I can;t listen to this song right now cos I'm in a cafe with no headphones, but if there's a song called "Go Down Easy" and it's not about oral sex I'll be very, very disappointed.
This is so delicate, i love it. You know John Martyn was a friend of Nick Drake? Martyn actually dedicated the title track Solid Air (1973) to Nick Drake.
That second pic doesn't look real it's so beautiful, no idea where that might be no?
This is the most beautiful love song ever written.
Danny started off the perfection here...this is mostly Dannys' track. Sod Johns' whiney voice, well a bit, maybe a lot but you know what I mean.Great combo...unique combo possibly
thank you poster. thank you dearly
Curl around me, like a fern in the spring
Another great accompanying part from Danny Thompson
Go down eeeeassaaaaaaaaay! A masterful performance from John and Danny : )
Best thing I've heard in a long, long time... Just what I needed. Thank you so much.
@cocochanelleke
thank you for commenting about the pictures, even though they were not carefuly picked. I just wanted to Upload the music, the pictures are just soothing and amplify the feeling of the song more.
Lovely pictures,
but the lion kitsch scene at the end is quite different from the rest.
Danny Thompson destroys this intro on that bass. Sweet Christ.
This tune takes me to another place. Were I to compare its simplicity to anything it would be Ernest Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea". Fabulous imagery without fancy rhetoric but wonderful images.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH; so a beautiful song with so great wonderfull pictures- thank`s a lot-- it`s totaly my taste- thank`s (`v`)
@MrErisian , eh dont get the old man thing, but am gonna listen to neil young just to check it out. old man take a look at my life?
