John Martyn - Auntie Aviator Lyrics
Auntie Aviator
Sooner than much later, we'll be there
Flying high above the clouds
Take a look and I'll be everywhere
I'll never let you down
Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom
We'll never touch the ground
And if we don't want to
We won't come down
Said I was a dreamer
That all I ever did was sit and stare
Take me out to no-man's land
If you want to, I can take you there
Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom
I'll never let you down
Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom
We'll never touch the ground
She's a good ship
She will fly
Now you're flying with me
We can take it easy for a while
Cruising far above the clouds
All I want to do is see you smile
Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom
I'll never let you down
Zoom, zoom, zoom, zoom
We'll never touch the ground
And if we don't want to
We won't come down
And if we don't want to
We won't come down
And if we don't want to
We won't come down
And if we don't want to
We won't come down

What is that haunting instrument?
Excellently haunting song. One of many on this album.
Beverley has a great voice, somewhat reminiscent of Annie Haslam of Renaissance.
I recently found a gorgeous near mint copy of this album, British original, for $20 down at Rotate This. I have no turntable anymore myself, but it was the ONE album of theirs I never had in vinyl, so I bought it and gave it to a friend. John Martyn is reputed to have not liked the multi-track nature of recording the album, but I think it's another success by the inimitable Joe Boyd.
Very stoned 1974...this and 'Primrose Hill'..which is where I lived at that time...superb
I zoomed all thru the late 60's and early 70's to the original recording of this album. Island ship wrecked the ambiance of this iconic recording at John's ( spiteful ?) request. Be aware, not Square.

Sometimes I think this album is even better than Stormbringer. It's neck and neck.
Altho it can be a matter of personal preference ( and may be due to associated memories and intimate familiarity to one or the other).as to which is the " better " recording here.....most critics agree that the original Road To Ruin Is the better of the two. Peace, my friend.
There's not much between them both.

Gutted this tune is removed from YouTube. Money seems to be god on this planet.

Beautiful.
Stunning song... perfect for late night listening.
Beautiful, comforting, great.
Mt all time favorite
One of my favourite songs. But apparently, according to wikipedia "Island (records) persuaded John Martyn to resume his solo career as they believed that the public was more interested in John as a solo artist rather than as part of a duo." That's a real shame.
Top track!
