John Lennon - New York City Lyrics

Standing on the corner
Just me and yoko ono
We was waiting for jerry to land
Up come a man with the guitar
in his hand
Singing "have a marijuana if you can"
His name was Davis Peel
And we found that he was real
He sangs"The pope smokes
dope everyday"
Up come a police man shoved
us up the street
Singin, "power to the
people today!"

NYC...NYC...NYC
Que pasa Ny?...Que pasa NY?

Well we went to max's
Kansas City
Got down the nitty gritty
With the Elephants Memory
Band
Laid something down
As the news spread around
About the Plastic Ono
Elephants Memory Band!
Well we played some funky
boogie
And laid some tutti frutti
Singing "Long tall sally's
a man"
Up come a preachman trying to be a teacher
Singing "God's a red herring in grag!"

NYC...NYC...NYC
Que pasa Ny?...Que pasa NY?
Well we did the Staten
Island Ferry
Making movies for the telly
Played the fillmore and
Apollo for freedom,
Tried to shake our image
Just a cycling through
the village
But found that we had left it
back in london.
Well nobody came to bug us,
hustle ud or shove us
so we decided to make it
our home
If the man wants to shove
us out
We gonna jump and shout
The Statue of Liberty said,
"come!"

NYC...NYC...NYC
Que pasa Ny?...Que pasa NY?

NYC down in the village
What a bad-ass city!
Que pasa Ny?...Que pasa NY?

  1. J.... ....

Imagine John coming on stage at Madison Square Garden or Giants Stadium in the mid-1980s to sing this as an encore guest of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Im 12 and i love the fab 4 and I was gonna listen to all the solo stuff by all 4 of them cause a month ago I played all the Beatles albums and singles and im doing the solo challenge and im starting with john and half of the live stuff I don't play cause it's yoko in a bag screaming and i believe yoko hired the guy to kill John but anyways mind games and on is good though i own a LP of imagine and double fantasy so i know they are good and after john im doing George then Ringo then paul then wings!!

    J.... J....

    Skip Wings

  6. K.... E....

I don't know English very well and I don't love Lennon, but I love his several songs,he's a real singer with a free soul, just like this and IMAGINE.

    K.... E....

I mean, one of the my only 2 fav songs of J.L.‘s.

    K.... E....

You need to listen a whole album, and demos... And don't get stuck in imagine

  7. L.... C....

Very much like The Ballad of John and Yoko would have been without Paul's influence.

    L.... C....

Almost frighteningly similar to The Ballad of John and Yoko.

  8. L.... G....

I think John really enjoyed this plain rock'n'roll.

  9. J.... M....

El genio indiscutible de los beatles
Revolucionario pacifista y lider a nivel mundial

  10. A.... ....

    Perfect

  11. J.... B....

    Absolute tune

  12. m.... M....

Qu'est-ce que cette bizarre photo d'Istanbul vient faire pour illustrer l'album de John Lennon "New York City" ??? Totalement déplacé et incompréhensible.

  13. K.... P....

One of my fav Lennon songs of the 70s.

Another John style Rocker always ignored whenever a compilation album is issued. The ballads are great but please sometime include the upbeat numbers. Incidentally the only good number on a terrible album. john was always at his best singing about himself or his experiences close to home. Whenever he let Yoko talk him into doing the political stuff it never worked musically.

    K.... ....

Best song from Sometime - a real classic with fantastic lyrics to boot....

  16. T.... M....

Nobody's favorite Lennon album, but this song and "John Sinclair" are just about perfect.

    T.... M....

I’ve always liked Luck of the Irish

    T.... M....

@DrCatDog Aside from "New York City", I'd probably say my favorite track is "Sunday Bloody Sunday".

    T.... M....

I usually don't like Yoko's music but Born In A Prison is great.

    T.... M....

    I like 'Angela' too.

    T.... M....

    MY FAVORITE LENNON SONG !!!!!!!!!
