John Lennon - Just Because Lyrics

Ah, remember this?
Why I must have been thirteen when this came out
Or was it fourteen? Or was it twenty-two?
I could have been twelve actually

Just because you left and said, goodbye
Do you think that I will sit and cry?
Even if my heart should tell me so
Darlin', I would rather let you go

Just because I want someone who's kind
With a heart as good and pure as mine
But maybe I am askin' for too much
Darlin', please don't ever break my heart

I know you think you're smart
Just runnin' around and breaking lovers hearts

Just because you left and said, goodbye, hey
Do you think that I will sit and cry?
Even if my heart should tell me so
Darlin', I would rather let you go

This is Dr. Winston O' Boggie saying goodnight
From record plant east, New York
We hope you had a swell time
Ev'rybody here says, 'Hi', goodbye

Just because you left and said, goodbye
Do you think that I will sit and cry?
Even if my heart should tell me so
Darlin', I would rather let you go

Goodbye, so long
Been a long year

John Lennon Just Because Comments
  1. a.... m....

ok but do you get the feeling that he's talking to Paul in this? 'there are two basses in this, hope you appreciate it'. and at the beginning as well

  2. B.... P....

In the beginning he is remembering how old he was when the song originally came out. It was the summer of '56 (in the U.S) which would have made JL around 15 at the time.
Of course, that doesn't mean that's when he actually heard it for the first time. Anywhere between 15-22 (the latter only bc he mentioned 22! ) would be more accurate. Though I dig this version the best! 😉🎸🎶🎙

"But who am I to hassle you like this?..."

  3. M.... ....

    Great song.

  4. D.... P....

Great track this was when John had split form Yoko it's like he is singing it to her

  5. M.... ....

  6. P.... E....

Only John Lennon could make an obscure 1950s minor tune sound like a hit tune x

    P.... E....

Minor hit??? Lloyd Price knocked it out of the park! It was # 3 on R & B charts!!!

  7. P.... E....

It sounds like he's saying goodbye to the fans just before getting shot x

    P.... E....

Yep, he addresses this in his three hour BBC interview. "...am I really saying farewell to the business?..."
    Its a great interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls8yjYKT6hA&t=7287s

Before "This is Dr. Winston O' Boogie" he has some humorous lines like "the last time I saw you, you wearing men's clothes. Not that I'm offended, but..."
