John, Elton - This Song Has No Title Lyrics

Tune me in to the wild side of life
I'm an innocent young child sharp as a knife
Take me to the garretts where the artists have died
Show me the courtrooms where the judges have lied

Let me drink deeply from the water and the wine
Light coloured candles in dark dreary mines
Look in the mirror and stare at myself
And wonder if that's really me on the shelf

And each day I learn just a little bit more
I don't know why but I do know what for
If we're all going somewhere let's get there soon
Oh this song's got no title just words and a tune

Take me down alleys where the murders are done
In a vast high powered rocket to the core of the sun
Want to read books in the studies of men
Born on the breeze and die on the wind

If I was an artist who paints with his eyes
I'd study my subject and silently cry
Cry for my darkness to come down on me
For confusion to carry on turning the wheel

I would love to have this performed at my final exit. An entire lifetime in just over 2 minutes. You cannot ask for more from the music. Elton, his band and Bernie are truly one of a kind.

    G.... S....

Sike!!! It’s Elton and only Elton for this song. All the pianos you heard were all performed by him. All layers of vocals were done by him too.

  21. C.... G....

They played this at starbucks today... brought me back to 1974... hours of listening to Elton John with my sisters in our room. We memorized this entire album and the words came flooding back.. amazing power of his music!

    C.... G....

    Good to know

    C.... G....

    Lovely memory!

    C.... G....

    ❤💙💚💜

    C.... G....

It’s amazing the power that music has on us when we are young. Several years ago , my uncle was dying and he had chosen the music for his funeral. They were just old Hymns that I had sang in church a thousand times. They had the words on the bulletin but I didn’t need it. They words came flooding back as soon as I heard the tune. Couldn’t have read it anyway through the tears! Thanks for the memory!

    C.... G....

The same for me and my sis. We knew every word of every song. His music is timeless

When any fan receives an album from Elton John for the first time, you take it home, you of course put it on, and you begin to covet it. Eventually you will find that one song that you hold dear, for me that would be this song. Yes it may not have a title, but my God it's got a lyric and a melody!
It is a short, poetic, brilliant little ballad. It is the kind of song that I believe Elton John could write every single day, and just about nobody else can. Probably just to stir the pot with the Billy Joel fans, I will add that if you like Vienna you most certainly have to like this song.
The song remains in my top 50 Elton John songs of all time, it is also one of my top 10 songs on the goodbye yellow brick road album. Sadly, it was not often played on FM radio in the golden years, The reason was he just had too much good material.
There does exist a Ben folds version of the song done live.
There is also a live version by Elton performed in England at the time of the albums release. What I hold out hope for, is that Elton John will eventually read discover this song, because it's certainly deserves some Acclaim. Some songs do not have to be epic to be masterpieces.
For me, this is the quintessential Elton John sound.

    C.... B....

Claude Bernardin I totally agree with you, all though GYBR has many songs I love, this one has a special meaning too me.

  31. M.... ....

    Love it

  32. o.... ....

    Dat Mellotron...

  33. K.... Z....

This song reminds me of Blackbird by The Beatles and I Want You by Bob Dylan and then that chorus with flutes is probably the loveliest thing about this song. The higher registered tones of the second verse strike me making me want to cry bittersweet tears and reminds me of my parents who both love these artists and when I was really into drawing. This song got me back into drawing. Being a musician myself, I myself find the power of listening to someone else's music can inspire and influence someone. This Song Has No Title but stick with me forever, timelessly with a name up to interpretation. The words and tune are most important anyway <3

    K.... Z....

Have seen this album innersleeve? Every song as a drawing. Check it out.

    K.... Z....

    @jtownshend
I haven't.  I want to get the vinyl or something just because.  I have the one for Captain Fantastic, Too Old To Rock N Roll by Jethro Tull, Let's Dance by David Bowie.  If I can't get the vinyl, I'm going to re purchase the CD.

    K.... Z....

Great vinyls. I want to buy Captain Fantastic with the poster, lyrics, the journal and what else came with. This is such a great album. It is magic!

    K.... Z....

yes but i think you are a widow main

  34. K.... Z....

My favorite song on the album.

    K.... Z....

I found you! Told you I was going to look it up lol. As soon as it started, it all came back to me! Love it!

    K.... Z....

    @sunshinegirl1967
It is such a great song, and the Jump UP! album is his best 80's release hands down.  It's in my top 3 favorite Elton John albums right next to Captain Fantastic and this one.

    K.... Z....

It's always been my favorite from this album too.

    K.... Z....

Kaylyn Zoe Tumbleweed Connection is Elton’s best album

  35. K.... S....

I sure love the album art! Epic!

  36. s.... ....

Born on the breeze and die on the wind.......

  37. D.... L....

Very powerful. one of my all-time favorite 1970s Elton songs.

  42. W.... i....

This song reminds me of my teenage quest for more and more knowledge

  43. F.... P....

he wrote most of the songs in 20 min each...

    F.... P....

+Frank Pitochelli if I don't get a tune right in 20 minutes I just throw It away Elton john

  44. F.... P....

One of EJ's 20 min masterpieces.

    F.... P....

    +Frank Pitochelli you mean 2?

    F.... P....

+DownFall I assume Frank means it was written in 20 minutes, which it probably was.

  45. M.... B....

I Think Bernie Taupin is a great artist and I respect him.

  46. M.... ....

    So beautiful

  47. d.... ....

    My favorite song.

I remember the power of this song. I miss this Elton!

    E.... ....

@EuphoricImpact I think it's this Bernie you miss...

    E.... ....

    @amyznewz lol

  49. R.... D....

reminds me of my great brother james davis robert

  50. J.... S....

That Molly Kate Kestner ad is fucking awful. She's awful. Just because your parents can afford to buy you ad space doesn't mean you have any business singing outside of your shower.

  51. D.... E....

Take me to the garrets where the artists have died. Show me the courtrooms where the judges have lied.

    D.... E....

Hi deb i have my top 20 albums of all time and i mean all time and this is one of them if you want to know the rest please ask me 😉

  52. T.... ....

Such a wonderful record. Perhaps, though, an example of a song where the verse is much better than the chorus.

    T.... ....

Yes, I agree, the verses are poetic and really move me, the chorus is ok, just should be in a different song.

    T.... ....

The chorus is the best part in my opinion.

  53. J.... J....

The older Elton John/Bernie Taupin songs are timeless and should come back.  I'd bet they would make the top 10 !!

    J.... J....

    Let's make it happen.

  54. R.... Z....

Such an underrated song, just beautiful.

    R.... Z....

Just about my favorite...if you can even pick a favorite from this exceptional piece of work!

  55. s.... ....

some of my favorite lyrics in a song.

  56. j.... ....

    Both are correct, yes.

  57. M.... ....

    courtrooms svu

  58. C.... P....

I like the title.....wait, there is none, sorry, continue where you left off.....

  59. t.... ....

actually I think both are right

  60. W.... C....

One of the things often overlooked is that Elton is an amazing piano player...

    W.... C....

    Amazing

    W.... C....

Often overlooked? Please pardon me, my sarcasm meter is out for repair.

  61. W.... C....

    Great under-appreciated song....

  62. G.... B....

I was just critiquing your grammar and perhaps your cognition. I was concerned that you might be delusional.

  63. D.... H....

Ok, in Layman's terms I did listen to this song at age 15, and then at age 30 i understood it. Just sharing what this music meant to me, not interested in a critique of my personal feelings and observations. Thanks though.

  64. G.... B....

I think the more accurate phrasing is, 'I listened to this song at age 15'

  65. s.... j....

    one of my favorite songs.!!

  66. O.... P....

A song this good deserves an actual title. Come on, Elton and Bernie!

  67. D.... H....

But weren't we all good "back then" in our prime? Let's start forgiving people for growing the hell up sometimes- no matter how cool they used to be!

  68. D.... H....

This song spoke to me at 15, an age when i was just realizing how the world really is. And now at 30, i realize that it's about that very comming of age. People get caught up in defining things- instead of living. "the song has no title, just words and a tune". People may grow old and jaded and think their life has no meaning or they can simply grow UP and appreciative and not grasp to "bend the significance to match a whimsied fable", if you will!

  69. s.... ....

At 81, Leonard's voice will direct my thinking forward. So he's Spock, he isn't Spock? "Thrusters on full".

  70. s.... ....

1973, may I humbly offer, assuming we get to 2013. 4 decades, is it not or it will be? 1974, Rush showed up. 1965 Gene in his infinite wisdom created Captain Kirk. White boy from Kansas, Alien science officer, black female communications officer, Asian pilot, Russian helmsman in the height of the cold-war? I watched Spock at 7?

  71. F.... ....

    Thanks!

  72. c.... v....

@mararules that is right, they called me stupid, but i fought everyday, and that is all i can say

  73. g.... w....

@degregrio yes and me my friend

  74. g.... w....

when i i lived in watford england elton was at a football match there i had a drink with him in a local pub can,t beleve it now i think he owned the club then haizy days

  75. h.... ....

BRILLIANT song. very self reflecting and heart warming!!:D Elton John is the heart and soul of sensitive and inspiring music!

  76. H.... G....

Bad ass title for a song with no title

    H.... G....

    whos on first ?

  77. M.... C....

@misstheolddays1 ... that's awesome... such an excellent song..

  78. M.... C....

  79. d.... ....

If I could Only be a teenager again when hence this album was popular, I would do everything differently.........................?

  80. a.... ....

This album came out in my Senior year of HS. I bought it for a present to my girlfriend . I listened to it with her all the time. She played piano, I played guitar. We would play and sing the harmonies. It was quite magical. We went to the concert in Los Angeles. Wow! It was great! Good times. Streaking was in vogue then!

  81. M.... C....

I dug this album soooomuch.. drew the Marliyn pic... stared at, sang with the album for days.. years.... what a classic... what a great, great album..

  82. O.... ....
