John, Elton - Sixteenth Century Man Lyrics

Oh it's great to see our homeland
Breathe the Iberian atmosphere
Just because we are Hispanic
Doesn't mean we're oceanic
Quite frankly we've had water up to here

We've nade waves to last a lifetime
We've been saturated, almost drowned
We are Spanish not Caribbean
We are human, not amphibian
We'll seek our fortunes on Spain's solid ground

There's no future in the new world
Only fools believe the tales
Of the gold of El Dorado
Only suckers set their sails
We have seen the way the tide is turning
We see what no sailor can
We are in the ball, discerning
We're anit-diluvian
Sixteenth century man
Two very fine examples of
Sixteenth, sixteenth century man

There are women who are lining
Every avenue in every port
Now at last we'll get to grips with
Things they never equip ships with
We have sailed into our last resort

There's no goldmine in the new world
It's a trick to get recruits
On the boat to El Dorado
We're returning to our roots
We're going back to land locked ladies
Cortez never let them board
All in all the point we've made is
We don't want to go abroad
two very fine examples of
Sixteenth century man
Two terra firma samples of
Sixteenth, sixteenth century man

John, Elton Sixteenth Century Man Comments
  1. S.... ....

The movie could of used more traditional Spanish music, like flamenco tbh but still okay nonetheless

  2. J.... ....

Before I looked up the lyrics I always thought this song was from the POV of an actual god saying "Terrify my samples of 16th century man." Woops.

  3. m.... ....

I could see this song being the credits song

  4. T.... ....

Great song, but I agree that there really wasn't a place for it to fit properly in the movie.
If it had been in there somewhere, it would have felt forced and out of place.

  5. M.... O....

this is in the intro to the movie, this is actually called "El Dorado"; this is a mislabeled song.

    M.... O....

Terra firma example as well, and speaking of terra firma, why is there nothing about it on Youtube? Is it not a well known term used by the Spanish during and around conquest?

    M.... O....

    no really?

    @MrGabeanator
     really, search and see!

  6. A.... P....

This could actually be useful when they are on traveling on the row boat.

    A.... P....

isn't it too cheerful and long for the boat scene though?

    A.... P....

Doesn't fit the movie. Rock in mesoamerica?

    A.... P....

Well it would work if migel (idk how to spell it) said we should raise our spirits and they sing the song, and tulio is like you know what you were right that helped, well be at shore in no time, then the camera pulls back and show they r in the middle of no where, then goes into the Scene with the seagull after a wash transition

  7. B.... ....

    every musical piece in The Road to El Dorado is perfect and on the spot; It`s good this isn`t in the movie cuz there`s really no place for such a piece;
    at all;

  8. M.... ....

    love it

  9. O.... R....

I wish this song was in the movie. This is one of my favorite Elton John songs.

    O.... R....

    Wouldn't fit.

Like..notice how the soundtrack and songs consist of traditional Spainish intrsuments and some mesoamerican musics when in the new world with a mixture of more modern latin instruments.
