John, Elton - Pinky Lyrics

I don't want to wake you
But I'd like to tell you that I love you
That the candlelight fell like a crescent
Upon your feather pillow

For there's more ways than one
And the ways of the world are a blessing
For when Pinky's dreaming
She owes the world nothing
And her silence keeps us guessing

Pinky's as perfect as the Fourth of July
Quilted and timeless, seldom denied
The trial and the error of my master plan
Now she rolls like the dice in a poor gambler's hands

You don't want to tell me
But somehow you've guessed that I know
Oh when dawn came this morning
You discovered a feeling that burned like a flame in your soul

For there's toast and honey
And there's breakfast in bed on a tray
Oh it's ten below zero
And we're about to abandon our plans for the day

A mais bela musica de Elton na minha opiniao.

    S.... A....

Muito difícil afirmar, qual a mais "bela música" do Elton John... Sem dúvida , uma das melhores !

  6. B.... G....

The meaning of lyrics?...well, I think it just boils down to whether work with the music or they don't. Bernie Taupin's lyrics never disappoint and never fail to complement Elton's superb musicianship.

I had all of Elton's early albums but sold them and many others about twenty years ago to raise money when I was broke. I'm so grateful to the people who upload these tracks because I can listen to them again and feel for a few seconds that wonderful exhilaration I felt on hearing them first time round when I young.

    B.... G....

Elton actually set all the music to Bernie's words, so really it's Elton doing the masterful complementing of Bernie's masterful lyricism..... So glad you get to listen to the wonderful songs again though. This is one of my favourite songs of theirs.

    B.... G....

Putting words to music and vice versa is pure magic.

All this discussion of the lyrics meaning... I'm pretty sure these lyrics were written by Bernie while he, his wife, and the band were staying in cabins at the Caribou ranch studio in winter where this album was recorded. So, Bernie and his wife were holed up in the room on a freezing ("it's ten below zero") morning, and that was the inspiration for this song.

This song is in my heart forever... my mom' and dad used to love it and so do I up to now..... Elton / Bernie are angels of music in this planet..... LOVE THEM 4 ever

The thing that makes Elton John and his songwriting partner, Bernie Taupin so great, is that even many of their lesser-known songs like this one could have been big hits. "Pinky" has always been one of my favorite Elton songs and can still remember my older brother playing this song many times back in the 1970's.

I've always been curious about this song. Who is this *"Pinky"?* Was Pinky a drag queen Elton and Bernie met while touring the US?

  15. j.... ....

The thing that makes Elton and Bernie Taupin so great, is that even many of their B-Side songs were just as good as the many hits they had.

    j.... ....

I agree. I love their hits, like *"The Bitch is Back",* and *"Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me",* but I also love songs like *"You're So Static",* *"Dixie Lily",* *"Pinky",* and *"Ticking."*

    j.... ....

@Jason Carpp Ticking is one of his best songs
