John, Elton - Johnny B. Goode Lyrics

Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood an log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like ringing a bell

Go go
Go Johnny go go go
Go Johnny go go go
Go Johnny go go go
Go Johnny go go go
Go go Johnny B. Goode

He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Sat beneath the tree by the railroad track
An engineer could see him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made
The People passing by, they would stop and say
Oh my, how that little country boy could play

His mother told him, someday you will be a man
You will be the leader of a big old band
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun goes down
And maybe someday your name will be in lights
Saying Johnny B. Goode tonight

Awesome.....Always loved this version of Johnny B Good.

I'm reading the book His Song the Musical Journey of Elton John and I had to look this song up because the author mentioned (more than once) that this is the only good song on the album and should have been released as a single, but upon hearing it I think it's terrible! !

  8. s.... ....

*nowhere near as good as Sex Pistols version*

  9. J.... R....

I guess the timing was bad. One or two years later, most probably this album would had been a massive hit for Elton.

    J.... R....

if the album had been a hit it could have shortened his career when disco died

  10. R.... R....

    👏Music disco

  11. S.... S....

    Not too Goode.

  12. J.... C....

Chuck Berry once punched Keith Richards in the nose. I wonder what he would do to Elton if he heard the version of Johnny B. Goode that begins this album.

    James Corbett
Funny. Knowing Chuck Berry, he would’ve thanked him. Because he would have made royalties off of EJ’s dreadful cover. Was anybody thinking when this was released? I’m guessing a lot cocaine was clouding everyone’s judgement. I was a huge fan of Elton at this time. But this kind of tanked it for me. EJ seemed to be slowly burning out after Rock Of The Westies. Victim of Love was the bottom.

    J.... C....

James Corbett you stole that comment from a negative review.

  13. s.... ....

Considering that Chuck Berry died just near the end of last winter, it's good thing that Elton has this classic song in his honor.

You have to remember when this album came out... 9 of the 10 songs on the charts were some type of DISCO. Elton's diversity is one of his great assets. The Production on this album is really quite good, the players were top notch (just look at the album credits, even Michael Mcdonald is on this thing!!) and Peter Bellotte produced this, who was one of the premier Disco/Dance producers of the era. Give Elton Kudos for doing this instead of sitting home and doing nothing. This same year he'd do that solo tour with Ray Cooper with Russia which was groundbreaking. Is this classic Elton? No. Very little disco will ever be "Classic" anything. The title track actually did chart in the Top 40 in 1979, so this really isn't as far out there as a lot of people say. It's a fun disco album, done by one of the most gifted artists of our time. Enjoy it for what it is.

  15. m.... ....

Opener of one of Elton's worst albums- the only one he didn't compose himself.

    m.... ....

Lucky it was followed by 21 at 33; in writing this, love this version and Victim of Love ....

  17. T.... G....

Change the speed settings up to 1.25 and this sounds much better

    T.... G....

At 2x speed the song sounds like a pretty groovy ska track.
Or, alternatively, like Elton John on coke - which of course is something completely unthinkable.

    T.... G....

That's an incredible difference. His voice can hit the esoteric notes the song demands. Why didn't the producer speed it up to begin with?

    T.... G....

    No, it doesn't.

    T.... G....

    this is sick thanks;)

  18. C.... F....

Love Elton's version of this song!

  19. F.... ....

Gay bullshit. He is a musician. Why he did this to the song?!?!?!?
