Joel, Billy - The Great Suburban Showdown Lyrics

Flyin' east on a plane
Drinkin' all that free champagne
I guess I saw this comin' down the line
And I know it should be fun
But I think I should've packed my gun
Got that old suburban showdown in my mind

Sit around with the folks
Tell the same old tired jokes
Bored to death on Sunday afternoon
Mom and Dad, me and you
And the outdoor barbecue
Think I'm gonna hide out in my room

I've been gone for a while
Made some changes in my style
And they say you can't go home anymore
Well the streets all look the same
And I'll have to play the game
We'll all sit around in the kitchen chairs
With the TV on and the neighbors there

Out in the yard
Where my Daddy worked so hard
He never lets the crab grass grow too high
Oh, the place hasn't changed
And that's why I'm gonna feel so strange
But I'll have to face the music bye and bye

I've been gone for a while
Made some changes in my style
And they say you can't go home anymore
Well the streets all look the same
And I'll have to play the game
We'll all sit around in the kitchen chairs
With the TV on and the neighbors there

Drive into town
When this big bird touches down
I'm only comin' home to say goodbye
Then I'm gone with the wind
And I won't be seen again
Till that great suburban showdown in the sky
Till that great suburban showdown in the sky

Joel, Billy The Great Suburban Showdown Comments
  1. t.... ....

looks like Jim Rockford''s Firebird on the album cover.

  2. M.... L....

There are too many underrated Billy Joel songs

  3. E.... B....

    So underrated

    E.... B....

Elliot Belliss ikr?!? This is one of my favorites

  4. P.... S....

Joel shares similarities with Elton John but Joel incorporates gospel and country into his music. It seems that his depression is reflected into his songs.

    P.... S....

Elton John has way more gospel then Billy Joel. The tumbleweed connection and Elton John are just full of gospel and country.

  5. C.... U....

    Great song

  6. R.... A....

Piano MAN non ha nel repertorio nemmeno una canzone scadente !

  7. R.... L....

Billy is unique. Pure talent. love Billy

    R.... L....

Rosa sono tutte belle ... Ascolta anche Surprise

  8. T.... J....

They say you can't go home anymore! Ain't that the truth!

    T.... J....

What does that statement mean.. You can't go home anymore

    T.... J....

@Ruben Gillison That when you go home it isn't the same, because even though everyone else is the same, you've changed. The home you know no longer exists.

    T.... J....

@Ruben Gillison it's jibberish and false.

  9. T.... J....

This song tells what I'm going through to a tee! Sad about leaving home yet eager for the next step in my life leaving Minnesota for Chicago. Sad but had to be done ! Hurts to say goodbye! Thats life!

  10. J.... R....

    Feels like a Eagles song

    J.... R....

John Rizzio Reminds me of their cover of Ol' 55. Or something Randy Meisner would have sang.

    J.... R....

    Yes! or Jackson Browne

  11. O.... ....

    Underrated song

  12. R.... C....

Billy Joel knows to compose a farewell song.

  13. G.... C....

    fucking belta

  14. B.... S....

The Moog synthesizer was used extensively by Billy on the Streetlife LP. By 1974, electronic music was starting to make a breakthrough in rock n roll. By the end of the decade, Moogs were basically passe, replaced by more modern keyboards.

    B.... S....

Starting to make a breakthrough? Seriously? Led Zeppelin used one in 70 and 71, The Beatles used one on Abbey Road in 69, the Doors before them and Elton John used one in 72. The breakthrough happened at least two years before this album.

  15. T.... N....

Whoo boy.  Gonna be headin back home in utter defeat, and Billy has set the tone yet again.

  16. B.... K....

I really love this old Billy Joel song.

  17. k.... ....

what is the main instrument used to play the melody parts (like the intro) ? ?

    k.... ....

@ksufler sounds like an early synthesizer, like a Moog

    k.... ....

A Minimoog that was available in 1970's.

    k.... ....

    Mooooooooooooooooog

  18. F.... G....

    Sort of like Randy Newman.

    F.... G....

    Raelspark no Randy Newman sucks!

  19. c.... ....

    Good tune

  20. N.... T....

    Classic!!!!
