Joe Walsh - Rosewood Bitters Lyrics

So many roads to walk
I guess that's how it goes
So many words to talk
No one really knows
The ways to say the meaning
Or the meaning of the names

Here I am, Lord
Walking down the road
And I'm on my own again
With the rosewood bitters

Too much going on today
Hard to draw the line
Can't see going on this way
Justifies the time
With pleasures of the moment
No, it don't seem right
Here I am, Lord
One more for the road
Good night, Irene, good night.

And the rosewood bitters
Wake me with a smile in the morning
Oh and the rosewood bitters
Help me with the times I feel blue

And the rosewood bitters
Wake me with a smile in the morning
Oh and the rosewood bitters
Help me with the times I feel blue

  25. M.... S....

Guess that's how it goes ...

  26. D.... C....

Been a Walsh fan for 35 years  listened to all his songs thousands of times. I think if pressed and someone asked me what's your fave song by him, its this one....

  27. S.... S....

I can enjoy the Michael Stanley original, but I prefer Joe's version best. I call it Joe's version because it isn't an exact cover since Joe wrote his own lyrics for his version. I find Michael Stanley's lyrics to be gentle but far too many syllables going on. I much prefer the simplicity of Joe's lyrics. They are simple, clean, and still convey the tenderness and meaning without sounding like it's trying to be a song by Bread (which is how I feel Michael Stanley's song comes across).

  29. j.... d....

its beyond me why this song its not played an radio stions XM channels such a grate meanigfull song thanks for posting it

Michael Stanley song in which Joe was one his album and decided to record it himself. Both versions are great but Michael's is better.

  34. L.... M....

This is ok but I prefer the original by Micheal Stanley look it up and thank me later!

    L.... M....

James Gang played back up for Michael on his debut.

    L.... M....

Hey...thanks for the info. Still like the Walsh version. Cleaner, tighter, and heavier guitars. Each to their own I guess. Shine on Larry.

    L.... M....

thanks for the heads up.loved it

    L.... M....

Fantastic song by Micheal Stanley, but this is my favorite of any thing Joe Walsh did, and I like 99.999999999% of Joe's songs!

    L.... M....

Just listened to MS , no thanks

  35. M.... M....

    He's just got IT.

    M.... M....

Absolutely love Joe Walsh. He's one of my inspirations for how to play a guitar.

    M.... M....

Absolutely and this song not well known as his big hits should be I always loved it.

    M.... M....

I know he didn't write it but this is my favorite Joe Walsh tune, perfect song for Joe to do.

  36. T.... E....

my favorite Joe Walsh song.I haven't heard this in so long,I had too listen to it three times...

    T.... E....

It is actually a Micheal Stanley song, from his first album that Joe produced. Check out the Micheal Stanley band version from the live Stagepass album here on youtube, It's AWESOME!

    T.... E....

There was a live version on here on YouTube that has since gone away with Michael,Joe and Dan Fogelberg doing this song.

    T.... E....

Yeah, Michael Stanley produced this song, but Joe Walsh wrote it and played the slide guitar on it, as well as provided the back up vocals. I get why you call it a "cover", but it's not a "Michael Staley" song by any stretch of the imagination.

    T.... E....

Michael Stanley wrote both the words & music. It was produced by Bill Bill Szymczyk. Bill Szymczyk put together a studio band for Michael in order to record his first solo album titled 'Michael Stanley' in 1973. It is often called 'The Blue Album'. Among the artists that Bill tapped to make the record were Joe Walsh, Todd Rundgren, Joe Vitale and Patti Austin, to name a few.

Bill had signed Stanley at the same time he had signed The James Gang to a contract for ABC. At the time Michael Stanley was Michael Stanley Gee and the band was called Silk.

Check out some of Stanley's music. Most everything is available on YouTube. He continues to write and perform music and has recorded over two dozen albums. He plays several shows every year in Cleveland & regularly in St. Louis. His day job is a disc jockey at a local Classic Rock station in CLE. He plays at local bars for fun and sells out many midsize venues of several thousand seats in the Northeast Ohio area and still puts on a great show.

    T.... E....

Tim Ewing You do realize it’s a cover?

  37. R.... S....

Very few guitarists capture that "wood" sound of a Les Paul like this song. Some notable others - the aforementioned Waddy on just about everything he ever recorded and Mick Ronson on the song Woman. Just a raw wood sound of the instrument. But hey, this is just on person's opinion.

  38. Q.... C....

    :)
     QC

  39. F.... B....

Absolutely inspiring. Saw Joe and Waddy and "The Creatures From America" play this wonderful song and others in Sydney Australia. AMAZING....

  40. f.... r....

Sweet songs on my Birthday sent by John Barringer

  41. D.... S....

Thanks for posting......brings back some great memories of the mid eighties

  42. J.... A....

Just like Joe Walsh was in the 80s, 2 people who disliked this here are OUTTA their freaking minds!!

    J.... A....

Well ... ya can'ts argue w/ a sick mind ya know.
Just shake a hand, maybe make a friend, and keep moving either way. ;-)

  43. S.... B....

As remakes go... This always has been one of the best.

    S.... B....

    Indeed!

  44. J.... G....

Thanks for posting. I heard this today ..I love this song- its beautiful.

  45. M.... ....

    Such a great song.

  46. R.... L....

What a beautifull sleeve, glad that vinyl coming back, something to hold on to.It sounds much better on vinyl. And the song...Joe's a connaisseur.Leave them Birds and go on alone, you''re great, you don't need them spoiled Bratts

  47. J.... P....

    Really something special here....

  48. K.... S....

This doesn't get any better. Joe's always has his groove!!!

  49. c.... u....

Smoke ya big ol'bowl of Acapolco Gold kick back and grove.

    c.... u....

brought back some good memories there

    c.... u....

    Been there..

  50. B.... R....

    This is beautiful.

  51. d.... g....

I like it, But the MSB version is so entrenched in my brain, maybe if they did a duet with all the lyrics from both songs. Joe's guitar work is definitely better

  52. X.... ....

I can’t put this on without being mesmerized. And I totally don’t get it. I don’t know what it’s about, or how it works for me. I only know that I like it. It’s like… cotton candy for my soul somehow. I’ll never know why. And most especially amazing… I DON’T care. I just, love having it around. And to know that it’s mine. Thanks, Joe!

  53. j.... c....

    walsh improved this song.

  54. X.... ....

I find myself now listening to this constantly.

It makes me feel, well, ‘nice’. Like I did when I was 16 and used to play it after The Confessor, or perhaps Dear John – when no one else was looking. My little Joe Walsh album that no one cared about. Except for me… and Joe Walsh. (Unlike most songs, I don’t want to dissect the lyrics. I just want it there. Oddly enough.) Thanks, Joe.

  55. L.... M....

Not bad but i prefer the MSB Stagepass version myself

  56. j.... d....

it really pisses me off that radio stations programers are such cowards and don't play songs like this what f ing shame with this digital jocks today I mis you jim ladd the lonesome cowboy for those who know that name you understand me

  57. L.... K....

    EVEN BETTER VERSION

  58. B.... R....

You mean Eurasure Respect's intro was an alternate...Walsh's tune was out in 1985.;)

  59. P.... A....

It's starts as an alternative version of Erasure's Respect.

  60. e.... p....

Nice, but he changed too many lyrics.

  61. A.... F....

Good - but definitely like the Michelle Stanley Band's version that is more up tempo better.

  62. f.... r....

    gosh I love this song

  63. r.... ....

This is a great song done by Joe Walsh, guitar virtuoso!!!!

  64. s.... s....

    ......wonder......rosewood bitters!

  65. z.... ....

joe is one ordinary cool dude!

  66. c.... ....

If you haven't heard it yet, listen to the live version by MSB on the Stagepass album. Listen to the whole concert. MSB was amazing for their time.

  67. c.... ....

OK version. A little slow for how the song should go but thanks Joe for the remake. I think (could be wrong) Joe played slide on the original version for MSB. Still, my favorite version was when I watched MSB record Stagepass back in 76 in Cleveland Ohio at the Agora Ballroom..... Timeless!

  68. 0.... ....

I had my first car wreck jamming to this song.brings a smile to my face.

  69. a.... ....

Totally agree! It blows away the original!

  70. l.... ....

Love this tune. Great album and Joe is cool too !!! Thanks for posting.

  71. L.... F....

about time, I can't believe it took so long for someone to post this version. Blows away the original.

  72. L.... F....

thanks for finally post this fuckin awesome song!!!!!

  73. b.... m....

Really the copy I have credits Paul Schaffer

  74. r.... ....

Joe F'ING Walsh outdid himself again!!!!

  75. D.... A....

I've heard both versions. It's like Dolly's song, "I Will Always Love You", though, in a way. Maybe even moreso. Not sure anyone would have ever known Michael Stanley w/out Joe doing this song. With certainty, I can say I'd heard Joe's version hundreds of times before I knew who Michael was. No disrespect. It's just the music biz. Thanks for posting this. Both artists deserve the recognition.

  76. b.... m....

    Paul schaffer on keyboards

  77. g.... ....

I like this version much better than The Michael Stanley Band

  78. S.... S....

Sort of misses the point of theoriginal by Michael Stanley conveys much more emotion and is better sung. He just doesn't quite have the voice to do this justice/

  79. L.... T....

Haven't heard Joe do this since I was 16... that's a while ago! lmao :)

  80. L.... T....

Gotta listen to it again! lol

  81. L.... T....

Thank you for posting this! :) My favorite version!I think he did it so much better than the Michael Stanley Band.

  82. d.... ....

    What a talent !

  83. M.... Z....

Wow,.....I really like this song,.....Thanks for posting this studio version,......Joe Walsh - The Rosewood Bitters from - 1985
