Joe Jackson - T.V. Age Lyrics

Here we stand –
(remote control buttons in our sweaty little hands)
As one man –
(we're lining up and waiting for someone's command)
We don't move –
(we sent out for food, get the news on video)
I can prove –
(there's no need for movies, we got HBO)
In the
T.V. age

They're out there somewhere
(you know the force has got a lot of power –
but what makes you think it gives a shit about you…
who are you anyway?)
They're taking over
(and I believe –
the aliens have to take a physical form on our planet –
so why not one with 13 channels…)
They're out there somewhere

Times must change
(this ain't the stone age, we don't have rocks in our heads)
What's so strange –
(we don't work no more, so why get out of bed)

T.V. rules –
(pretty soon you won't be able to turn it off at all)
All you fools –
(then it'll turn you off – your back's against the wall)
In the –
T.V. Age

  3. A.... A....

How prescient he was with this song! Written 37 years ago, and it is exactly where we are at now!

  4. D.... M....

Joe Jackson making his own genre

  5. T.... G....

THIS GOT WAS SO UNDERRATED. HE SONGS REMIND ME OF STEELY DAN. ELTON JOHN GOT ALL HIS THUNDER.BUT, I LOVE HIS MUSIC ALL THE BACK TO '79.

  6. R.... K....

Night & Day is one of THE MOST Underrated records of the 80's.

  7. X.... C....

Reading the comments, everyone keeps referencing New York! Thats great how he was able to capture NYC that well in his music.

    X.... C....

Xilo Channel only Joe Jackson & Frank Sinatra were able to really personify the essence of NYC in their music. Everyone else are just afterthoughts.

    X.... C....

@Robb Baker i think that discounts all of New York hip hop and all of the amazing Fania Records output, among other artists. And what about The Ramones?

    X.... C....

    @Robb Baker Steely Dan?

    X.... C....

Steely Dan and Bob James also had in my opinion captured the essence of New York.

  8. K.... T....

PROPHETIC, I thought when I first heard the song.
    Now it's all true

  9. r.... ....

1:33 - 1:43 That is DEFINITELY a shot at Michael Jackson, mocking the verbal intro to his song Don't Stop 'till You Get Enough.

    r.... ....

Thats true, but I don't know if that was an attack at him lol. But remember, Joe Jackson was a real musician, as was Prince, and Prince made it known of his detestment for Michael because he wasn't a real musician, he was a singer and a dancer.

  10. p.... n....

I forgot how awesome this whole album was. I have the cassette still. Thanks for uploading the entire thing!

  13. S.... ....

    Speaking as a native New Yorker, back then was only 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13... with 21, 31, 41, 47, and maybe 68 on the side.

Now, with all the cable/satellite choices, you have to really search high and low, near and far, for anything decent.

  14. e.... ....

    God I love this song
