Joe Diffie - That Road Not Taken Lyrics

Yesteday I missed my exit
On my way to Sears
A song was on the radio
I hadn't heard in years

For a minute there the interstate
Was 2nd Avenue
And I was singing "Everlasting Love"
And driving home to you

Somewhere down that road not taken
Will forever live those dreams that were forsaken
Just every now and then
I think what would have been
Somewhere down that road not taken

By now we'd have our own business
And a house just out of town
In a neighborhood that smelled like dinner
When the sun went down

Two kids playing in their rooms
With toys we never had
A little girl who looks like you
And a boy, just like his dad

Somewhere down that road not taken
Will forever live those dreams
That were forsaken
Just every now and then
I think about what would have been
Somewhere down that road not taken

What if I had asked you
What if you'd said "yes"
There's no way I'll ever know
Still I can't help but guess

Somewhere down that road not taken
Will forever live those dreams
That were forsaken
Just every now and then
I miss a place I've never been
Somewhere down that road not taken

Yesterday I missed my exit
On my way to Sears

We separated for 20 years, taking different roads. We found each other and have been on that wonderful road for 8 years now! So glad for this second chance.

If anything, this song deepens my appreciation of the fact that my wife and I did indeed take that road, and we have been happily married for 35 years and have loads of children and grandchildren. Thank you, Joe!

I'm sorry if this seems mean, but the country I grew up listening to just kicks the crap out of Luke Bryan and most of the others getting airtime these days.

there is still time to change the road that you are on,although you may not change loves lost ,it is for your eternal soul.

I remember who I used to think about when this came out around1994. And I never did go back and take that road! I am with the man that was meant for me and I could not be not happier!

thanks for posting...I have been looking for this song for years...that first line got to me when I was about fourteen years old, but I never knew the name of the song..

@exacerbatedtaboo I'm glad you were able to post it because I'd never heard this one & I thought I knew all of his songs. I haven't heard anything about Joe Diffie for a long time. Wonder what he is doing now? He had fun, witty songs and some very nice ballads, too. So much of country music today isn't country - it's pop music & some of it's not even very good pop! Like you said, Joe Diffie songs from that time period really take me back to a great time in my life.

@scullypoodle No problem. I'm surprised youtube let me though. I wish Joe Diffie was still making cd's. He has a lot of really good songs but this one takes me back to a time when I was in a serious relationship. Long story! Anyway, thanks for commenting.
