Joan Baez - Help Me Make It Through The Night Lyrics

Take the ribbon from my hair
Shake it lose and let it fall
Layin soft upon your skin
Like the shadows on the wall

Come and lay down by my side
Till the early morning light
All I'm taking is your time
Help me make it through the night

I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord tonight I need a friend

Yersterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
It's so sad to be alone
Help me make it trough the night

I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord tonight I need a friend

Yersterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
It's so sad to be alone
Help me make it trough the night

Another really good song that Joan improved on.  She took this song and really did make it better than the original.  This something she could do with a heck of lot of songs.  Best version I have heard.  I think Sami Smith did the orginal in the sixties but this is a better version of the song.

Très belle version ,quelle plaisir d écouter cette superbe voix !!!!! merci beaucoup!!!!

Sammi Smith was great artiest but Joan Baez Is a greater singer.  Joan does this song much better than the original.  She has voice that I have not heard anyone approach in quality and range.  She turned this into a greater song than Smith started with.

Such a sweet song. One of my favorites from this compilation. Joan's songs always thrill me! I know, her compositions are kinda weak (Bob Dylan himself said that once),except for Sweet Sir Galahad,Diamonds & Rust and Winds Of The Old Days. But the versions she made of other artists' songs...WONDERFUL!!! The lovely Joan Baez will always be the queen of Folk.

I was born in '70...I hadn't known Joan Baez was country. Somebody (an elder?) shoulda told me....she sings vibrato...luv it.

    R.... C....

I'm not an elder, haha. However i can explain this. Joan isn't originally a Country singer, but Folk. And she got into that genre because she was inspired by her husband David Harris,a Country Music fan.

  32. J.... D....

I've been trolling through the various artists and versions of this song
and I keep coming back to this one.
Though upbeat for a love song, pleading for company, it still gets the message and the sentiment through.
The back-up singers, the accompanying music, and especially the bass player are first class.

  33. A.... ....

Well Joan surprises me again with a nice upbeat kind of bouncy and jaunty version of this classic country song!

  34. D.... ....

Sorry folks, I am not a Joan Kumbaya Baez fan, BUT I really do like this. Never imagined Joan doing a song with an upbeat C&W style, but this is good.

  35. s.... c....

    good effort

  36. J.... D....

By far, the best rendition of "Help me make it through the Night".

  39. L.... J....

There's no help I can bring.....

  40. M.... ....

Joan Baez, Gladys Knight, & Mariah Carey each own this song, but Joan is also THE INSPIRATION ( so she wins.)

  41. t.... ....

    @zamusicza
Joan was so busy with her politics @ the time she didn't get a chance to record it before Sammi although Kris (who was having an affair w. the married JB @ the time) sent it to Baez first. He wrote her: " If you would open your G**D*** mail sometime, you coulda had a hit out of this"

    t.... ....

I like Joan and Sammi both, but I have to give Joan the edge.

  42. t.... ....

    @AGoodmanLee
This song was written FOR Baez when she was having an illicit affair with the composer.

    t.... ....

    nothing wrong extramarital sex
