Joan Armatrading - Love Love Love Lyrics

I never thought love knew distance
I heard once smitten
It was wave goodbye
To the clubs and the dance on the tables shaking
Bad boy turned to a life of good

Passing round your number to a bunch of strangers
Girls in heels and their lips so red

They're not looking for love love love
They're looking for sweets
They're looking for a daddy
They're looking for sugar
Hey
Hey
Hey

Everybody told me it would never work out yeah
Living so far apart
And like a fool I though the oceans
Divided the continents
But not a faithful heart

Everybody told me that the sunshine that
I saw in your eyes was fake
That the blue was a too
I heard every single word they said
But it sounded like French
And Je ne parle pas francais

Cause I was looking for
Love love love

OK I decided in my fairy tale world
We were hands stretched across the sea
And every time somebody told tell me
You were playing around I said
Oh no
He wouldn't hurt me
But more and more I find there's no answer to all my mail
And I can't reach you on your phone
Last thing we planned so meticulously
You missed the plane
And I spent the night alone
I gotta tell you now

Always thought of you as stronger baby
You were bigger than the sky
Don't want revenge she ain't a lady baby
And you know that is what I am
Aah aah aah

All I get from you is an abridged illusive story
Try to put a spin on cheating babe now you bore me

Once I was naive and I listened to the lies
And what you told me I would just believe
But while your other female friends are looking for a paycheck
It doesn't take money to please me

Do you read me
When you need me
I'm telling you babe
It cuts both ways
Believe me

Everybody told me it would never work out yeah
Living so far apart
Like a fool I though the oceans
Divided the continent
But not a faithful heart

Cause I was so in love
Yeah I was so in love
Yeah I was so in love
Yeah I was so in love
I was so in love

Love love love
Love love love
Love love love

Have a look all you singers/songwriters, this lady is a real gem, a true talent, the way it should be done, no fake synthesizwers, no back up dancers, no pretty costumes..just sheer talent

  15. V.... R....

I agree the most underrated talent of the century. Incredibly gifted and has never won a grammy or an award in England or USA..shameful. The girls nowadays couldn't even hold a candle to her.

  16. f.... b....

SO GOOD, so good, god damn, it's 2019 and this still resonates with me so hard it makes me cry. hell yeah. excellent tune.

  17. N.... D....

I hear this song a lot on smooth radio. For a long while I been wondering who sings it and what song is called. I love this song. Nice and chilled. Great voice. Very talented.

  18. w.... ....

I love that woman so much it hurts.

  19. A.... J....

When that baritone comes in ...Ahhhhh!! Pure sensual

  20. R.... K....

This voice...this song...have loved her for so many years.

  21. R.... M....

My wife and I were just married (and poor) standing in front of the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver in 1977looking at the lineup . Our wedding song two months previous was Love And Affection. We loved Joan! A stranger offered us two tickets to the show as he had just broken up with his lady and he liked the look of us. We sat front and centre and fell more deeply in love with you Miss Armatrading! We saw you every time you visited Van and pray to be with you again one day.

  22. r.... b....

    Still listening in 2019 :O

  23. m.... ....

What a beautiful song and a beautiful performance.

  24. A.... Y....

Beautiful, powerful, yet understated. Stunning. Love her.

  25. F.... L....

Love this song! Sing it sing it! 2019!

  26. m.... c....

I got to see her perform this song in a bar in Columbus OH around 1976. Amazing.

  29. Y.... M....

    so good

  30. G.... N....

What do you think of Shingai's cover of Love and Affection? That was on BBC last Friday https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07pjf39

  31. E.... L....

    Beautiful just beautiful

  32. s.... ....

plays all her own instruments, and a brilliant song writer..basically a female prince.. and yes she was about before price rip...

  33. C.... R....

For the seventies this is one seriously feminist song, and one hell of a statement of black pride and confidence.

  34. J.... T....

This song will never grow old.....never

  35. l.... m....

One of my absolute all time favourites.

  36. N.... N....

I think im so lucky to be here and watch this video.. august 2019

  37. L.... ....

Sounds as fresh as it did when it was recorded 40-some years ago.

  38. C.... R....

The things I love about this are the powerful, apparently heartfelt idea, and the way it's put together: slightly staccato, and broken lines. It's sound as if she's just coming out with it for the first time. Almost conversational.

  39. R.... C....

Such a beautiful woman in every sense of the word. The best love song ever written ❤️

  40. E.... B....

I just thought of this song out of the blue. I heard it once when I was a little kid, and that was a long time ago. The fact that 40 years later I still remember it, just from one line...... that’s something.

  41. S.... C....

I bought Joan's Greatest Hits cd about 25 years ago - Recently been on Armatrading kick - She's fantastic!

  42. J.... C....

I don't know if it's just me but while watching JAs face during this performance it looks like as the song goes on she slowly realises that this is actually a good song. Correction: a great song.

  43. O.... K....

    This is timeless......wow.....I mean really....wow....

  44. s.... h....

    So good.

  45. H.... S....

The first artist I discovered on my own.

  46. M.... R....

I was in love, she was open to persuasion.
51 years on, we're still having the conversation.

  47. Q.... ....

She should have collaborated with Phoebe Snow or Earth Wind & Fire, as it would have been cool!

  48. K.... F....

Thanks for sharing Fritz. A great talent amid all the noise.

  49. L.... P....

2019/5/21 until the end of time she is a legend😍😍😍😍

  50. J.... R....

Still get shivers listening to Joan Armatrading. Such a beauty!

  51. A.... D....

Beautiful song, so haunting. Am I hearing a twelve-string guitar?

  52. D.... ....

Love her so much! This song!

  53. b.... b....

Can't express how much i love this wonderful artist, since the 70s, now putting my musician teen daughter onto her . . . . .

  54. S.... s....

    Just class......

  55. O.... O....

Who else is still listening to this song, remembering, exactly, where they were in came out in 1976.

  56. R.... L....

    Shes unbelievable.And so underrated.

  57. B.... S....

Took a date to see Joan in `76. Joan and the band were excellent.(Richie Hayward-Little Feat on drums) After the show I asked my date "So what did you think of that?...it was ok I guess", she said. :(

  58. A.... Y....

Beautiful. Can't believe that was '76!

  59. M.... ....

60 patients at the local nut house all took turns pushing the pretty little thumbs down button.

    M.... ....

    They are literally lost souls..................................

  60. M.... O....

A rare and genuine voice. What else is there to say?

  61. T.... G....

Going into 2019 with this song. ❤️

  62. j.... ....

Some nondescript white bloke in an ill fitting white suit..................Playing the sax solo all others are judged by! The wars over, he dropped the big one.

  63. T.... ....

Get yourself someone who looks at you like Joan Armatrading looks at the camera at 3:59.

    T.... ....

Superb comment....................I'd give you a million Likes if I could.

    T.... ....

@jamuga60 It's a bit of an over used meme, but for that moment, it's very appropriate.
