Joan Armatrading - Love And Affection Lyrics

I am not in love
But I'm open to persuasion
East or West
Where's the best
For romancing

With a friend
I can smile
But with a lover
I could hold my head back
I could really laugh
Really laugh

Thank you
You took me dancing
'Cross the floor
Cheek to cheek
But with a lover
I could really move
Really move
I could really dance
Really dance
Really dance
Really dance
I could really move
Really move
Really move
Really move

Now if I can feel the sun
In my eyes
And the rain on my face
Why can't I
Feel love

I can really love
Really love
Really love
Really love
Really love
Love love love love
Love love love love

Now I got all
The friends that I want
I may need more
But I shall just stick to those
That I have got
With friends I still feel
So insecure

Little darling I believe you could
Help me a lot
Just take my hand
And lead me where you will
No conversation
No wave goodnight
Just make love
With affection

Sing me another love song
But this time
With a little dedication
Sing it, sing it
You know that's what I like
Once more with feeling
Give me love
Give me love
Give me love
Love...

Joan Armatrading Love And Affection Comments

I just love the way this song starts off so simply and then builds to this lush, beautiful, anthemic singalong crescendo after the sax solo: 'Make love with affection. Sing me another love song but this time with a little dedication. Sing it, sing it, once more with feeling.' Tears rolling down my face. Extraordinary songwriting.

  90. M.... M....

Watched a documentary about Joan last night! Amazing song, artist and person ...

    M.... M....

She is amazing, played to my 15 year old Grandson last night xx

    M.... M....

Yes it was great long over dye tbh and introduced me to new songs of hers and reminded me of songs I hadn't heard in years!

She simply hasn't been given the attention or praise she deserved.
She influenced so many artists, including Tracy Chapman amongst others and simply doesn't get credit for it.

Probably one of the most underrated artists of all time , such a talented and gifted woman . She reminds me of Nina Simone , in the respect that she , like Nina is an acquired taste, both incredible talented women both with was gutsy personas and great inner beauty. Incredible song writing intuitive abilities , both with the ability to touch people deeply. Much respect to both ladies.

  95. d.... b....

  97. S.... M....

  98. S.... M....

Joan thank U makes me smile very sexy song

  99. L.... O....

"Now if I can feel the sun in my eyes" the tiny shakes in her voice, the sheer vulnerability. That line always has me closing my eyes, feeling the sun's radiance, an orange orb I'm in... just bliss. Joan is bliss to me.

    L.... O....

Lucy, sweeties, please don't be offended by what I'm going to tell you because I have only good, helpful intention. The 'shakes' in her voice is called 'VIBRATO' and I am telling you this so it's easier for you to type, too! I'm sure you have probably already heard and perhaps also know the term vibrato from other areas of the music world as it can apply to the technique of playing certain types of instruments too, e.g. adding extra vibration to the strings of a guitar or perhaps a cello or a viola to give a richer, fuller sound to the music . As the voice itself is regarded as an instrument, you can see how adding that type of vibration in the notes she sings gives the sound more depth and emotion to the song too! Great stuff! Thanks for your time and I hope you don't think I am being a snotty snob by pointing out that to you! Ta ta for now. X

    L.... O....

@Eva Belvoir hi Eva! no definitely I needed that clarification, I'm a great admirer of the first instrument, the voice. I mistakenly thought a steel guitar was a violin in another song, I was corrected of course lol I'm still learning and it's people like you that help along the way. Thank you and God bless! :)

    L.... O....
