first time I heard this song, I had just played football/soccer for an hour or two; came home, flopped down on the floor exhausted and then this started playing on the tape player and I started laughing. Laughing because I was fifteen but knew it would probably evoke the same thoughts/feelings in me til the day I died, which when you are fifteen seems like it will be an eternity away. this song is adam and eve territory. maybe the racoon stole an apple off the tree at the back while the dog slept.

Remember hearing this oh so smooth song during January 1972 when I was in 11th grade...

Perhaps the most underrated artist I can think of.

I remember J.J. Cale recorded a special version of Crazy Mama for KYA in San Francisco that starting off saying "1-2-6-0" instead of "1-2-3-4". KYA was AM 1260 on the radio dial.

The slide wah guitar needs to make a comeback. Barefoot Jerry and Grinderswitch applied this guitar technique. Really cool. JJ Cale was a completely sick guitarist and tunesmith.

My step-dad and I visited with JJ after a show several years back. I put at least a few of those several minutes in my top hour here on earth. They're both gone now and I miss them so much. George Harrison wrote " While my guitar gently weeps ", the guitar in this is magic. I would have loved to have these guys in an isolated log cabin somewhere, bunged a pound of weed and a bucket of Jack Daniels on the table and just have them jam. Wow!

Clapton doesn't suck - go listen to the Wheels of Fire LP, for one. Both he and Cale are awesome - they have a great deal of respect for one another.
