Jinks, Cody - Church At Gaylor Creek Lyrics

Well my favorite memories are some of my first
Like a Sunday night meeting at an old country church
Sometimes my grandparents would come and take me
To an old country church house on old Gaylor Creek

We all knew our neighbors, everyone there was friends
And the preacher worked the timber like all other men
We were baptized by water, we were washed in the blood
I don't remember much money, but recall lots of love

That church was a long time ago
I'm talkin' distance and years
I'm not for certain that I could even get there from here
But on nights when I'm sober
Not blinded by all that I see
My mind washes up at that church on old Gaylor Creek

So many of bar rooms, so many strangers
Women, whiskey, so many dangers
That old honky tonk highway
That's a wild horse to rope
Son, I've seen enough neon
To circle the globe

That church was a long time ago
I'm talkin' distance and years
But I'm not for certain that I could even get there from here
But on nights when I'm sober
Not blinded by all that I see
My mind washes up at that church on old Gaylor Creek

My mind washes up that church at Gaylor Creek

He was raised Pentecostal and I was too.. I believe when a kid is brought up in that setting they feel more then others and that our upbringing never leaves us and neither does the Lord . We may stray but he always comes looking for us in our darkest hour . I'm missing my grandparents with this song.

I love this song and Cody Jinks’ music but if you didn’t know, this was a song written by Billy Don Burns. If you haven’t ever heard of him, well just pulll up his music and enjoy it for the rest of your life. Genuine musician and Cody turned me onto him.

I’m only 22 but I had a church like that when I was little, and my grandparents would take me as well. It was a little run down, one room schoolhouse type building with an outhouse out back. Everyone knew everyone well and it was like a little family. I remember watching others be baptized there, actually I believe my grandma was. I miss it a lot and this takes me back.
