Even though I do love listening to bleed american, to say it's a pop record, I understand the criticism., It's not their best work, it's GOOD listening though and like with most bands, they have an album that is their most popular, rather than their best: that is Bleed American for JEW! Static prevails and Clarity are awesome albums, I've heard literally hundreds of times. Drugs or Me is no filler track, though!, It's a signature of a pain you may not know. It's amazing how sad that song is.

Haha, I didn't realise it was your video when I was "sticking up for you", that makes it so much sillier!! I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed Damage, the opinion seems divided on that. Personally I like it, then I'd just gone through my 2nd real breakup right before it came out, that may have swayed my *Appreciation* (hehe). I really like that early Jimmy Eat world stuff too, overall I would say we do have somewhat different tastes though and that's just fine :)

It saddens me to see people marking your post as spam, everyone's entitled to an opinion. I just thought you may like to know, I didn't like Futures much at first listen but with more listens it became my favorite JEW album of all time and still is. I'm with ginnoveffect all the way, but marking as spam; cut that shit out.

i agree what is a return to their classic sound? is what i thought when i read that......clarity or static....they are not going back to a sound that reflected their youth it would probably be depressing, those records are cult classics basically, but that usually means it wasnt appreciated immediately even tho i did enjoy them.....such a unique sound on static and then the melodies and everything on clarity it was like night and day, i love the new stuff too stay on my side was great

I never really thought of chase this light as returning to their 'classic sound' I personally just don't hear the connections between the two albums. Regardless, I love pretty much every Jimmy Eat World song out there, even the middle, though I don't think it's their best song at all hah

@donknotty chase this light is a straight up fan pleaser to me, so it's strange no one agrees with me on that. i've been listening to jew for over 10 years and i swear the song writing on chase this light is the best stuff i've heard since clarity, not counting the stay on my side ep. and i still stand by this considering Invented is pretty much crap.

@musicforchewfaygs I somewhat agree with you about Futures, even though I think to call anything off that record "filler" is a bit presumptuous. Chase This Light is in no way a "return to form," if anything it's more similar to Bleed American (VERY pop-oriented, look at songs like Big Casino, Always Be, Here it Goes, Firefight). Actually, they've always been a pretty poppy band, especially for always being called emo. Clarity is a great, yet very poppy record in its' own right.

@3MultiMotherof static prevails and clarity are awesome albums, bleed american is just a pop record that they (in my opinion) put little effort into, and futures had too much filler (i.e. drugs or me). chase this light is more or less a return to their "classic" sound. those of you who got into them because of bleed american or futures are biased to those releases, as i am biased to static prevails for the same reasons.

@musicforchewfaygs futures and bleed america may have a different style/feel to them but they are still sooo Jimmy Eat World and very good albums. Id say that i like those 2 more than chase this like though it is hard to rank them.

If passion is the issue, then I really don't understand, because each album, even Chase This Light which I consider the weakest, has passion on its side, Futures + Bleed no exception. I love everything from Static through Futures. CTL has some good material, and is worthwhile, but I'm not in love with it like I am with any of the others (aside from S/T). If tracks like Beautiful Is, Be Sensible, etc. had been included on the final product, it might have turned out to be just as high on my list.

@ginnoveffect i dunno, we both like the same band. i've been following them since clarity, and was very disappointed when they did the heavy stuff. there are some songs off both bleed and futures that i love, but the albums as a whole just don't have the passion that static, clarity, and chase this light do. but then again, thats all opinion.

@Theeleventhhr11 it's the b-side to the big casino 7", but there is a second version with Open Bar Reception as the b-side. so pay attention to what you're buying before you buy it.
