Jimmy Cliff - Guns Of Brixton Lyrics
When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton
The money feels good
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell
You see, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come
You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh-the guns of Brixton
When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
You can crush us
You can bruise us
And even shoot us
But oh- the guns of Brixton
Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game was survivin'
As in heaven as in hell
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton

Jimmy Cliff Guns Of Brixton Comments
Jimmy Cliff vastly underrated singer and songwriter. The Harder they come still an iconic film and soundtrack of its time.
really good version , big Clash fan, this guy has nailed it , Punk , Raster one spirit anger against injustice , it's agood bond .
brilliant cover, also a very expensive buy on youtube, up to £90 ….

This is the song I show people when i want them to know reggae shark is a blatant homage to the great man :)
Brilliant version!
His voice is so funny
Pussy s the boys in bleu are at the other side of a piece of plwywood wat is mt feont door plwtwoos

33 people have shit taste in reggae music.
Nouvelle Vague and Los Fabulous Cadillacs do some nice covers of this as well...
Guns of Brixton ❤️

Gunz ov
Very good cover! Thanks.
Yessss. Love this and the original.
2018 in America!Man come kick in Your door! How you gonna come!?
Such an awesome version= it's definitely entered into my favorite songs of all time category..Along with Jimmy Cliff's the harder they come song already ! "Cheers, not fears!"- dr trip lucid Because freedom is for those who think for themselves
fucken the best cover ever
A brilliant cover of a great song.
juste retour des choses.. splendide..
best version
Try the version of Alice Phoebe Lou, it's totally different but amazing.
Alice phoebe lou guns
This is pretty awesome. I've always loved the original but this is also superb.
brilliant cover and i think the best version!
!!!!!!!!
so I have listened to most of the covers...just can't compare to this one !
backing tracks PLEASE !
great song.......... The Clash has a nice version....
Erm, The Clash did the original!
jajjjaajajaajaja... hilarious!!!!
Go get 'em Pistol Pete
I just can't stop being amazed by the fact that this is a song about a character from a film (which the author probably admires), covered 30 years by the actor who played the character (and is really a singer who just acted in this only film).
@true prussian of retardsburg Brixton still does :)
Some dude called Mark Timlin wrote a book called Guns of Brixton
666TeenageWhore .....hot tramp I love you so....
Yes man.... Ivanhoe Martin....Rude Boy!
@Addison Duggan this song is supposedly a sequel to the life of Ivanhoe Martin from the Harder They Come (played by Jimmy Cliff!)if he had survived and emigrated to London.
one more request : same version...minus the ( beautiful ) vocals
please do another one (same as this ) ..but w/lyrics..
just totally awesome ! ! Thanks
Wow. Johhny. The sound fab. Clash version is more evil but like both
Jimmy Cliff Ladies & Gentlemen....possibly the greatest male vocalist since records began
Possibly, though James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Jeff Buckley and a few other may have something to say in that argument....
The master sings the apprentice. Great version.
You know Simmo had to be beside himself for this one.
Not half. It's like when Little Richard and Otis Redding covered Rolling Stones songs. Paul could say to Strummer or Jones, "How many of your songs has Jimmy Cliff covered?" He's covered all of Paul's or at least half of them :)
Rockin'
lekkur deuntie eur
99% of covers are awful but this is one of the good ones, I'm sure Simonen & the Clash are flattered by it. Thanks for posting it!
+Gord Snieder Simonon,please,not Simonen! Thank you! :)
Never knew Jimmy Cliff covered The Clash's 'Guns Of Brixton'. Nice cover. :)
@Alex Delvecchio it doesn't get any better than it was. The Pistols sounded, and were, brilliant right out of the gate. 1976 and 1977-78. They could do no wrong in those days.
@icarus Karamazov that's right!
I heard this first and never knew it was the clash until the other day!
Written by Paul Simonon, no? Bassist from the Clash. Wait, is this Cultural Appropriation? Ha! Fuck the new...politics has no place in music, comedy....actually, politics has no place anywhere unless you a money grubbin shit bag. One last thing - FUCK OFF
@Sheila B ... ""The Guns of Brixton" was the Clash's first song to be composed and sung by Paul Simonon"... :)
Whoa! Never knew he covered this. Thanks! :D
Oh yeh.... Jimmy!
I love Simonon's version but this is great.
this sooo awesome!!! love the clash, but this one....brilliant!! jimmy s version is a truly piece of a master!!! chune!!!
Jemma älä p

It's a good arrangement, but he's voice is too feminine, and does not have the attitude the Clash have. I don't think the singer is a match for this song at all.
What an amazing remake! Thank you for sharing!! :-)
I love the lyric "You see he dress like Ivan from the end of "The Harder They Come"", because Jimmy Cliff played Ivan in "The Harder They Come". :-)
+Les Toil They say The Clash was directly inspired by The Harder They Come to write Guns of Brixton, hence the Ivan line... ;)
+s0jabohne thanks Les and sOja, it adds dimension, even more so.
Yeah, I caught that too 😊
very well done
a very good cover
When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
When the law breaks in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting on death row
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
The money seems good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven or as in hell
You know, he feels like Ivan
Born under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come
You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
The guns of Brixton
When they kick at your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun
You can crush us
You can bruise us
Yes you can even shoot us
But oh-the guns of Brixton
Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game is called survivin'
As in heaven as in hell
You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Anyone know when this was released ???
or even Pre or Post CLASH ????
2012, clash created it, this was a cover, although i prefer it to the original, as punk-reggae isnt really a good mesh as just punk or reggae by itself is
@Gabriel Gardner I respectfully disagree. This version is cool but The Clash version had such a cool, original sound...original for The Clash that is.
True reggae has so much tension. The snare roll. The bass out of this world. Jimmy's voice wow. Also Jimmy changes the lyrics here. Up to you. Love my bros the Clash but this is best
This version is so good I should not be surprised because this is the man but I am it's real good!
What beautiful counterpoint to the original Clash version.
<3 <3 <3 <3
the writers of this song.
well said
Uncle Cliff.
GOOOD.. merci de partager...
it's impossible to compare Sean Paul and Jimmy Cliff..different genre, style, period..the only common thing is they're both jamaican. SP is dancehall, Jimmy Cliff is reggae.btw the best dancehall album of all times is and will forever be Dutty Rock by SP
utilise adblock....
Who Ever Compares Sean Paul to JIMMY CLIFF is an idiot..not even close......JIMMY is a Legend.....Sean Paul Who????
CLASH WHO???????????
La publicité au début c'est vraiment du caca pur les yeux et les oreilles
Sean Paul and Jimmy Cliff cannot be compared like that< they both are Jamaican Artist but not both doing Reggae Music
How can you even compare Sean Paul to the likes of Jimmy Cliff?! Sean Paul is mainly synthesized, computerised beats and loops featured by many similar artists to himself, whereas Jimmy Cliff uses session musicians with actual instruments.
Sean Paul is pop, or might even borderline the Reggaeton genre, but i wouldn't know, he's not on my radar. All I know is you're comparing Cents to Dollars.
And i raise your 'Dutty Rock' with Mr Cliff's 'Hard Road to Travel'
The national anthem of disenfranchised Britain as the class war rages on.
Music industry awards are free adverts for money guzzling corporate vampires which is why there are no Punky awards in the programmers' schedule.
All hail Discordia.
the grammy was for best reggae album.. tomahawk style aint even reggae.. its not even dancehall which is what sean paul claims to be.. its just generic shit with a jamaican voice over the top of it... tout about it
i hope for your sake you are joking.... do you really think sean paul will even be still making music in 2 years time let alone 50... they gave it to jimmy cos he is the man not some ratty little pop artist.. sort it out
What a great version, the brass sections really work!
I like the BP commercial that played right before this. Fuck my life.
already epic!
You cant go wrong with that bssline. Just as good as The Clash or Dub be good to me.
what year this is?
This is one of my favorite songs from Jimmy Cliff.
true to da roots.
quality
Jimmy Cliff is back!!!
this song is the shit.
