Jimmy Buffett - Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season Lyrics
Squalls out on the gulf stream,
Big storms coming soon.
I passed out in my hammock,
God, I slept way past noon.
Stood up and tried to focus,
I knew I could use a Bloody Mary,
So I stumbled next door to the bar.
[Chorus:]
And now I must confess,
I could use some rest.
I can't run at this pace very long.
Yes, it's quite insane,
I think it hurts my brain.
But it cleans me out and then I can go on.
There's something about this Sunday
It's a most peculiar gray
Strolling down the avenue
That's known as A1A
I was feeling tired, then I got inspired.
And I knew that it wouldn't last long
So all alone I walked back home, sat on my beach
And then I made up this song.
[Chorus]
Well, the wind is blowin' harder now
Fifty knots of there abouts,
There's white caps on the ocean.
And I'm watching for water spouts
It's time to close the shutters
It's time to go inside.
In a week I'll be in gay Paris;
That's a mighty long airplane ride.
[Chorus]
Yes, It cleans me out and then I can go on.

Love this!
Great song Jimmy. I just went threw another one.. It was not strong enough to destroy my house. Damn!. I want it gone so I can take my insurance money and get the hell out of this crappy State.
Dorean could have annihilated us, we were right in the center of its track. Why the Bahamas and not us ?
Go away Dorian!
From 1974's A1A.That's Doyle Gresham on steel.Thinking about the residents in harms way.
live on the NC coast.... this has become a way of life.
For the Florida people, good luck with Dorian <3
Safety and peace to all my Florida friends, those I already love and those I've not yet met.
This song is so tranquilizing. It detaches me from the daily stressors.
Honesty, a great song 8)
A hurricane Andrew survivor here hoping the 2019 hurricane season will be one without any U.S. damage.
A number of years ago, I bumped into Jimmy at a bar off the A1A.
We nodded at each other and smiled, then went our separate ways, not a word shared, but everything said.
Aramis419 Beautiful story.
I can't run at this pace very long!
From 1975 -1979 if I looked down from my bedroom window I saw A1A and if I looked out the front room window I saw the ocean. Actually rode through a hurricane for 3 days and 2 nights out on the Atlantic. Scary sight seeing the whole ship go under a wave and then feel the props whirl like mad as they crested into nothing but air. But it cleaned me out.....
Without a doubt my favorite Buffett song, and I've heard 'em all
Hurricane Michael brought me here
Great song! Jimmy Buffett is awesome!
Hurricane Florence is a coming, so I decided to listen. What a lovely tune.
I always listen to that song when a major storms on the way.
Go away Florence!
I was a living hurricane til Christmas Eve 1978. Rode my motorcycle thru a snow storm to detox, drunk, singing "I must confess, I could use some rest, I can't run at this pace very long". Been sober since, I owe Jimmy my sobriety and my life. Many thanks.
Wow. For years when I heard that line in the song I thought the same as you. Reading your story makes this my favorite Buffett song and I love um all. Congrads on your sobriety sir.
A-1-A ... one of the first albums I bought and I still love it.
Nice song! Greetings from Miami FL!
Love this song!
Charlie and Wilma didn't bother me. Irma was a pain in the ass.
before the apostasy
King Jimmy
One of his best songs from one of his best albums.....way before this Parrothead stuff
I was born into a family of Buffett-fans. This music makes me nostalgic
Goodnight, my favorite, song, as far as Jimmy Buffett songs go, but l could be wrong, love them all!
Setting a record for number of hurricane landfalls this season and it ain't over yet!
watching Irma on the Weather Channel I thought of this song just had to hear it
Praying for all in Florida. Peace
Raising one to all of you getting hit by Irma. Stay safe, y'all.
He used to fish the Key West sailfish tournament back when I was a young man running charter baots out of Marathon Key. It was a great time to be young in the Keys!
Well, Done Bravo!
I like this song people
Sue and I found ourselves on a corner of walk and dont walk on A1A in Lauderdale several years back. We had drinks at an Irish bar. Go figure.
I've seen this a thousand times
Saw jimmy at univ of Miami back in 1975 for free there --- nobody knew him then but the concert was great - bought his only album then--- it would be great if he went back to playing the old hits in small places ---like I saw him at the old bottom line in NYC in the 80's so close I thought I was in the band --- yikes that was great.... Sorry, but he is too commercial these days --- too bad....
Such a nice tune. .. ...
Thinking of the East Coasters.
Always a favorite and how damned apropos for us in FL getting ready for Matthew. Stay safe all.
Amazing, Spot on~~~~ Thank You ~~~~
Mother nature keeps us All humble
Awesome song! Pictures are depressing, but that's life by the ocean.
yes me too I love all his music and listen too most all!!! like you way before Parrot Heads but I must say I'm one of them
what a great attribute love peg
awww living in cocoa beach,And AlA By the Great Jimmy Buffett
+Peg Frazier Yep... used to stay at the old Wakula Motel, surf 2nd Light, the O-Club, and Tables... then slide down A1A to Indiatlantic, Spanish House, and Sebastion. We'd hit Tippy's Taco House on the way back up before stopping by Oceanside Surf Shop to see what sticks MarJane & Dick had on special... remember seeing the first Bonzer there! Back in the day and being underage (early '70s), we would sneak into the Pillow Talk bar at the old Satelite Motel and George's Steak House Bar near Jetty Park / Canaveral where a couple buddies and I saw Jimmy Buffett before he hit it big... only Fingers Taylor and Harry Daley were with him. Was way before the Coral Reefer Band but we instantly became Parrot Head embryos that night!
I lived in the Faro Blanco Lighthouse in Marathon, FL when this album came out. My bedroom was the top floor with the stairs going up to the light! Good times and many times listening to this album!
I rented the lighthouse for a year when Eric Ball owned it in the late 70's. I can't even begin to tell you the times we had in that place and the Angler's Lounge! Now that I think about it, I probably shouldn't tell anyone about them!!
Leslie Tippett sombrero lighthouse!? dove that many times!👍👍
I was just in the Keys last month, June 2018. There is still some large areas of destruction from that bitch Irma!!!! Broke my heart to see it, no more Grassy Key Dairy Bar, etc! I also used to go to the Faro Blanco back in the late 80's and 90's. Loved the lil cottages and the BIG pool, Anglers and Kelseys downstairs.... totally changed now! So sad!!!!! Still love my Keys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im a third generation sailor and parrot head, at 25 years young! The street I live in now, on the opposite side of the world, is called "key west", with the neighbouring streets named after other the other keys'. Cant help but come home and put on Jimmy Buffet!!!
Just Wait.......
Mishka brought me here
good A-1
My dad took my mom to the bar he's talking about in this song, Loui's back yard. He was trying to be romantic in his own sweet way... ^u^ Beautiful song, beautiful melody!

suckers are NOT fun. Sat through more than enough of those in FL and NC
I was into Jimmy Buffett long before the term Parrothead came along. Before it was cool to be a Parrothead
