Jimmy Buffett - Son Of A Son Of A Sailor Lyrics

As the son of a son of a sailor
I went out on the sea for adventure
Expanding their view of the captain and crew
Like a man just released from indenture

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man
I have chalked up many a mile
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks
And I've learned much from both of their styles

Son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor
Son of a gun; load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer

Now away in the near future, southeast of disorder
You can shake the hand of the mango man
As he greets you at the border

And the lady she hails from Trinidad
Island of the spices
Salt for your meat and cinnamon sweet
And the rum is for all your good vices

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind that our
Forefathers harnessed before us
Hear the bells ring as the tight rigging sings
It's a son of a gun of a chorus

Where it all ends I can't fathom, my friends
If I knew, I might toss out my anchor
So I'll cruise along always searchin' for songs
Not a lawyer, a thief or a banker

But a son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor
Son of a gun, load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer
I'm just a son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor
The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains
I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer

U kept me eating singing "your songs" during the lean years. I'm returning the favor. New songs are the life blood of an artist. Yatta, yatta, yatta.

  5. L.... S....

U son of a sailor. I have something for you, "U can't Go Wrong Singing Jimmy Buffett songs" on You Tube Videos by yours truly. I kind of had to use your name or what would have been the point. Use for free for filler or encore. No licences fee. Then if it works and the crowds start singing along some free tickets. Money is just dirty paper, and employs too many lawyers.

  6. T.... E....

    God damn I love you!

I am the son of a son of a sailor, my grandfather was a steamfitter with the U.S. navy and a merchant marine , and my father was airborne 102nd. me , I'm just thankful for all that sacrificed there lives, and give all for our country, our freedom, and the pursuit of happiness, freedom is not free, however our beaches and being able to enjoy freedom with our children is , here's to all the little pirates out there. and god bless our leader, and god bless the constitution of the U.S.A

  20. m.... ....

To all the people commenting below. If you think posting about your military service is some context to a relation of this song, you missed the whole point. And btw I'm not "thanking you for your service," 90% of you peeled potatoes and cleaned latrines and don't deserve any kudos for your service. That is reserved for people who actually fought for freedom, not you losers who flunked out of college and decided to join the military because it was your final option.

  30. b.... ....

I love this song, but the last line "I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer" is such an odd one to throw in at the very end. Seems off key from the rest of the song, like it was a quick answer to the question what else rhymes with sailor? Otherwise this song is incredible.

Whenever my friends in highschool ask me who my favorite singer is I say jimmy Buffett and they laugh at me. I don’t care though. J Cole, Travis Scott, and Migos can’t evoke the same amount of meaning or emotion to anyone like Jimmy Buffett does. I was raised on this music by my father and it has shaped me into the person I am today and the person I want to grow old as

While Buffett was in Key West forming the Coral Reefer Band and singing for beer and burgers, he ran weed out of the Yucatan on shrimpers. Bet you didn't know that, did ya? Imagine more than 50 million genetically-modified mosquitoes being released on your hometown — the city you live in being used as a testing ground for mutant mosquitoes created in a science lab. That’s exactly what will happen in cities in Florida and Texas if Oxitec, a British biotech company, gets its way. I live in Key West, Florida, one of the areas targeted by Oxitec for this mutant mosquito experiment. I need your help to stop this, and to send a message to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that cities like my hometown shouldn’t be laboratories for big biotech firms. Sign my petition calling on the EPA to prevent Oxitec from unleashing hundreds of millions of mutant mosquitoes into the ecosystem. Oxitec wants to release upwards of 50 million of these genetically-modified mosquitoes per week in the Florida Keys, as well as Harris County in Texas — but we have no idea what kind of harm this type of experiment could have on the environment, or to the health of people who live in the cities targeted by Oxitec. Already more than 170,000 people have signed my petition, and next week I’m personally delivering my petition to the EPA. But I need to add as many signatures as I can to help convince the EPA not to treat my hometown as a laboratory for mutant mosquitoes. Will you sign my petition, and help send a message to the EPA that biotech companies shouldn’t be able to experiment on populations with genetically-modified mosquitoes?
