Jimmy Buffett - Havaña Daydreamin' Lyrics

Stashed his trash in Ecuador, bought a good suit of clothes.
Flew on up to Mexico, standin' by the shore.
Waiting for some mystery man, to pay him for his time.
Thinkin' about all the money he made,
couldn't help to ease his mind
Havana daydreamin' oh he's just dreamin' his life away.

Daddy shucked that sugar cane,
One day he fell dead.
Jesus had a wanderin' feelin'
Swimmin around in his head.
Sailin' on a midnight boat,
There were no questions asked,
Water's so green and the air was so clean
That he stuck right to his task, Havana daydreamin',
Oh he's just schemin', his life away.

Ceilin' fan stirs the air
Cigar smoke did swirl,
A fragrance on the pillow case
And he thinks about the girl.
Spillin' wine wine and sharin' good times
She sure could make him smile.
He pays her well but what the hell
He'll be movin' in a little while, Havana daydreamin',
Havana daydreamin'
Oh he'll be dreamin' his life away.

Jimmy Buffett Havaña Daydreamin' Comments
  1. M.... C....

Here’s a guy (Hemingway) who projects a tuff guy image, and when its all said and done he takes the cowards way out. Something for all of us to learn here.

  2. H.... B....

I’ve loved the song for decades but some of these pictures are disturbing and it makes me sad

  3. J.... T....

Hemingway...One of the most overrated poets of his time. He writes with the drab style of Conrad and the faux existentialism of Camus.

    J.... T....

    As opposed to you.

  4. P.... ....

Way over rated writer. Interesting life though.

    P.... ....

Right...sure you could do better than Jimmy - a success for over 40 years!

  5. M.... R....

Hemingway lived his life in his own way and knew the importance of being ernest!!!!  I really like this song and video .. thank you Jimmy

  6. t.... ....

Have you ever seen Hemingway’s penny?

  7. 4.... h....

I sure do wish that Mr Hemingway had not done his self in so much to learn from him.. A true Mans Man!!

  8. T.... C....

    live'n like levon

  9. T.... P....

This, imho, is the type of song Jimmy was born to compose & the best genre he released. Soft waves, Gulf breezes, small boats sailing and colorful characters sipping boat drinks are the Buffet sound that hooked my wife & I on our "hometown boy." Shame he only comes back to town once every decade or two (and sadly prices most of us out) since the '70's . . .

  10. B.... T....

Absolutely BRILLIANT man and tribute. I think his family would be very touched by your work. Have you sent this to the Hemingway House in Key West?

  11. C.... H....

"The Scar of Seven", just waiting to happen, Jeff Bezos. 100%

  12. D.... S....

A life most only dream of ,well done

  13. B.... P....

Of all the songs he has done, I think this is his best. The poet from paradise.

  14. J.... S....

EL senor Hemingway fue un genio literario que ademAs entendio el alma del ser latino ,descansa en paz !

  15. G.... M....

if you make it to Cuba, you should visit Earnest's home. take the tour and if you close your eyes and open your imagination, you'll see him sitting in that chair and typing on that typewriter.

  16. R.... C....

I'm 61, I have cancer, I'd like to think I'll go out bravely, truth is, before I'll let a Dr. determine how much pain I should endure, or how many indignities I should put up with, I have a gun, and I'd like to think I'll use it wisely, but it's my decision, not the Dr. or the VA. My only concern is my wife and daughter and I can't help but think they don't want to me scream, because the the Gov is worried I might become addicted to pain killers in my last days.

  17. b.... b....

lived his life and he ened his life no GOV  wow what a life

  18. B.... P....

This is my favorite Buffett song.

  19. B.... R....

Read Islands in the Stream in the summer of 78, while backpacking around Europe. Have been a Hemingway fan since then. Now, knowing a bit more about the man , I wish I took the time to walk the streets in Paris that he walked and imagine what he saw back then .

  20. D.... S....

This song's NOT about Hemingway at all.

  21. J.... ....

Jimmy is right... Hemingway ended up just dreaming his life away. His relentless pursuit of adventure and pleasure (as King Solomon found) proved unsatisfying. Yes he was a great writer, but he was not a great man. Great men and women live their lives for causes greater than their own selfish pursuits. Aristotle understood this as well, asking "What is the ultimate purpose of human existence?" What is that end or goal for which we should direct all of our activities? Everywhere we see people seeking pleasure, wealth, and a good reputation. But while each of these has some value, none of them can occupy the place of the chief good for which humanity should aim. The goal for each human life should be to identify what that chief good is.

  22. M.... M....

R.i.p. MR. Hemingway. BOAT DRINKS BABY! BOAT DRINKS!

  23. G.... W....

Way back Jimmy would cruise up in a sailboat to a fisherman’s bar in Madeira Beach, drunk as a skunk. He and Fingers would be dancing on the tables. Everyone knew who they were, and everyone had a blast. We were all young, happy, carefree. My, my how times have changed. McAfee had it right by escaping to Belize.

  24. S.... R....

A real man's man. Too bad they're all gone.

  25. C.... W....

Jimmy Buffet has created a neighborhood in Daytona Beach FL...Lattitude Margarittaville. I wonder if the will let chickens and six toed cat roam around? (NAH....)

  26. s.... ....

Start with one true sentence. Hemingway and buffet know this

  27. M.... L....

dig this song--the album is great too

  28. b.... 3....

    Damn fine tribute!

  29. M.... S....

Hemingway perfected the art of masculinity.

    M.... S....

    until he killed himself ?

  30. k.... k....

Me jimmy have a couple million + miles together. And this explains it all many thanks

  31. F.... M....

Hemingway truly lived. He sadly chose his own exit. His father and his younger brother were also both suicides. "Man may be destroyed, but not defeated." He was defeated, in the end, by his own hand.

  32. r.... b....

This song made me a parrotthead.1976, changed my life. Thank you Bubba..

    r.... b....

    Phins up, Roy!

  33. U.... B....

Can I give more than one thumbs up?

  34. T.... M....

i wish it was the Lion that got that piece of shit Hemingway first

  35. D.... B....

Papa changed my life. I have read everything he has ever written, but I don't agree with all of his politics....but I agree with the way in which he stated his thoughts.. It's a shame that literary giants like him cannot be judged simply by what they think and espouse.

The minute that we publicly ridicule him for his expression of thought,.....we are done as a society. We are deciding that those thoughts,....should not be considered.

    D.... B....

His commie bullshit shouldn't be considered. He was such a twat

  36. R.... B....

    Love the video

  37. T.... F....

Love the song, but, anybody that would kill an animal for sport, fun, or bragging rights is a fucking subhuman sociopath..

  38. C.... C....

Hey Joltinjack, Nice Job Brother..!! Cheers from FLA-USA...!!!!!!

    C.... C....

    You're welcome, Choff C!

  39. P.... M....

Jimmy Buffet created an awesome picture of what it's like to not give a shit about of the rest of the people on this planet! To be Earnest Hemingway would be awesome & tragic at the same time. If only we cared about others as much as Buffet cared! Well, the past is the past. Folks, live your lives like you have something new to bring to the world. Don't be that nay sayer dick that hasn't had an original thought in 30 fuckin years! Be bold & speak your mind!

  40. J.... E....

Hemingway was a drunken homophobe. He berated other authors who were as good or better then him - think F. Scott Fitzgerald. And yes, he did take the easy way out.

    J.... E....

    Knew him personally did ya?

    J.... E....

Not to mention a communist shitbag

  41. S.... S....

    Just a nice tune.

  42. J.... R....

    rip papa Hemingway

  43. L.... e....

    so heart touching

  44. J.... J....

    tight lines papa! great pictures

  45. J.... J....

    tight lines papa!

  46. a.... s....

Papa Hemingway, what brilliance he had and his legacy still carries with me, thank you JB for dedicating this song to him.

  47. f.... r....

Ernest and Jimmy, both sorry ass libturds....but, i love both of these ass holes and their art.

  48. M.... P....

    Show Papa Hemingway some respect

  49. P.... H....

    good msic

  50. t.... ....

From when Jimmy was a young man-R.I.P. Papa.

  51. L.... L....

I hate the photo of the hunter and the lion

    L.... L....

It’s just an animal. Do you eat cheeseburgers? You should see how they cage and kill cows

  52. P.... H....

One of my top 5 JB Songs, excellent Video

  53. Z.... C....

Hemmingway sucked. If he wasn't a communist fool you'd have never heard of him

    Z.... C....

Except for all of those great books...

    Z.... C....

    yeah the books..lol

    Z.... C....

@Dan Holmes great ? I missed all those. Did read a few of his shitty ones so i tried. Yeah he was horrible human and even worse writer

  54. D.... K....

Hemmingway created a dream. Living in the Florida Keys. Living on an island between the Gulf and the Atlantic. There aren't many greater places to live or visit.

    D.... K....

My God Tracy Rogers, I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what your saying, " Watching the life fade like a flare" . Your Dad was a true hero, a naval submarine Sailor, that is truly awesome.
I watched the light fade from my husbands beautiful blue eyes. Living with his final images still brings me to my knees . I've yet to muster the courage to bury my husband at sea. Someday, I'll have to let go.
I've done a bit of sailing myself and I'm also a retired Ship's Captain. I miss my life at sea.
Looking for a vessel to live aboard with my Son and puppy. Thank God for children as my Son came to my rescue when my beloved husband passed.

God Bless you. Thank You for the well wishes.

    D.... K....

Then it was ruined by all the queers.

    D.... K....

    @Cheryl Schmacher 💙💜❤️

    D.... K....

@Cheryl Schmacher I'm so sorry. I can't imagine having that kind of bond. Do whatever feels right for you. ❤️💜💙

  55. D.... c....

Hemingway never forgot the importance of being ernest.

  56. Y.... ....

    Great imagery to a great song . . .

  57. O.... B....

Hemingway had the sense to kill himself.

    O.... B....

  59. B.... S....

great , great, great, what do you expect,,

  60. D.... B....

    Hemingway's my favorite.  Thanks, dude.

  61. D.... C....

Think y'all missed the point here.

  62. q.... ....

Great video!  Excellent audio and cool pictures.  Thank you for the upload.

  63. J.... C....

it is to my knowledge that Hemingway had lived in severe pain after a couple near death plane crashes. also had suicide history in his family. people have no idea what life was like back when he was alive but their liberal views overpower everything. Obama is friends with the Castro brothers and thats who they voted for.

  64. J.... H....

    I love this song

  65. S.... H....

Playing as a tribute to my brother Jim Welch. A cross between Hemingway and Jimmy Buffett.

  66. T.... C....

    JoltinJack - you did good.

    T.... C....

    Thank you.

  67. b.... j....

i lived in key west from 1961 to 1971. beautiful back then and peaceful.

    b.... j....

Me too Big John. What a different place than it is today. Back then you could walk the entire length of Duval and not pass 15 or so people. Laid back and quiet. The beauty, however still remains, just more crowded. I left a large part of my heart and soul behind in KW when we had to leave. We still go nack every chance we have. no other place like it in the continental US

  68. V.... U....

I am shocked & disgusted about some of the comments relating to this song.  I'm not even wasting my time or breath...You know who you are & you make me sick.

    V.... U....

Valerie:  My Darling, thank you for posting your disgust; however, lets travel the higher road that the others don't bother to make the effort because the incline is too much.

    V.... U....

    then stfu
    stfu

    V.... U....

@joltinjack Touche, sir! You have just run them through and they don't even know it...rapier whit?!?! :-)

  69. K.... H....

    Excellent!
The pictures in the video are priceless.  " Jimmy Buffet our Hometown Boy."

  70. m.... s....

everything doesn't have to be about us......what is good for the environment is eventually good for you too.....i just wish more people would care about the natural world.....as all the garbage i see at the local golf course...... speaks volumes towards our selfish behavior...

  71. n.... ....

I'm really not shocked by the amount of idiots who write comments about people or events they know nothing about...Hemingway was in rare company and he lived a life that most of us dream of.,His literary genius is not to be questioned at least not by we fools who scribble on this page.Oh,and he chose to end his life in his way on his terms and not sitting in a chair drooling

    n.... ....

Late in the evening central park 1981

    n.... ....

He sucked. Horribly. And was a commie cunt to top it off. At least he knew how to become a good commie

    n.... ....

@Blondi Hemingway had a level of humanity and INTELLIGENCE no one has been able to match. He chose his way of life to suit him as we all have the RIGHT to do so, your judgment of an intellectual mind is not warranted or needed. He was more profound than any of the shit-house writings I bet you have encountered in your life.

    n.... ....

Wow. The pics are just not fitting. Does not match. Remove this video.

  72. T.... J....

At least he saved a bullet for himself instead of killing another Lion.

    T.... J....

Hemingway was just another drunken communist who let his ego drive himself crazy and eventually do the world the ultimate favor by killing himself. Good riddens asshole.

    T.... J....

T J what the hell u talking about u piece of living shit. He was the best person who ever lived and here u r saying how fuckin bad he is. I would kill lions too do u have a fuckin problem with that

    T.... J....

Whole this comment was kind of harsh... the replies are more harsh. Jfc what has a lion done to y’all people... why can’t y’all respect wild life and leave them be?

    T.... J....

Tom Smith "I would slaughter 1000 lions to bring Mr. Hemingway back" The only sick fucker here is you. Self-entitled imbecile.

    T.... J....

@Tom Smith contributed what to who ? His shitty stories no one reads ? I'd kill a hundred worthless commie bastards like him to bring that lion back

  73. h.... ....

Don Jen? I agree with tedkadar for the most part. We can't help it if you're an uneducated, illiterate moron, get a life, read a book, get a haircut and get a real job.

  74. a.... ....

If there was ever a man's man, Ernest Hemingway is it.  It was good.

  75. b.... r....

Where did you get the great photos?????? email me: [email protected]

  76. P.... H....

    Well Done Bravo!

    P.... H....

  77. s.... h....

  82. j.... ....

Thanks! That means a lot to me.

  83. S.... ....

Thought I'd let ya know that I probably watch this at least 3-4 times a day. I can't listen to the song without thinking of Hemingway and these images. Good job and thank you. :)

  84. s.... h....

Let not the problems of yesterday poison the promise of the future..........

  95. j.... ....

    Thank you.

  96. j.... ....

I have. I read two biographies on him in the late 80's. One of them is by Meyers (Jeffrey?), and another one (too lazy to go upstairs and look at it). I also visited Sloppy Joe's Bar on Duval St. in Key West. Me & my Dad drove in a Dodge camper from Middle GA down to Key West in July of 1979. On the way down there, we went A1A as long as the barrier islands lasted. When they ended, we jumped on US 1. Coming back, we hauled ass on I-95 & the turnpike. lol

  97. T.... W....

    mine too

  98. j.... ....

    Thanks, and you're welcome.
