Jimmy Buffett - Floridays Lyrics
I come from where the rivers meet the sea
That's part of why I'm so wild and fancy free
I was early into crazy ways
My folks said, "It's just a phase"
They were hoping for better days
Now in my line of work I seem to see a lot more than most
Write 'em down, pas 'em around
It's the gospel from the coast
Reflections, not just replays
Takin' time to escape the maze
Lookin' for better days
I spent a year of my life one night
On the beaches in old Beirut
Seems that all they're aimin' for there
Each others' lives away
Bloody winds on a distant bay
They're lookin' for better days
Looking to the left, looking to the right
Looking to the stars to shed some light
Hoping for a breath, hoping for break
Hopin' for the give without the take
The dreamers line the state road
Just to watch the runway show
Slouched behind their steering wheels
They just watch the big jets go
Streakin' through the morning haze
Focal point of a distant gaze
Lookin' for better days
Pale invaders and tanned crusaders
Are worshipping the sun
On the corner of "walk" and "don't walk"
Somewhere on US 1
I'm back to livin' Floridays
Blue skies and ultra-violet rays
Lookin' for better days
I'm back to livin' Floridays
Blue skies and ultra-violet rays
Lookin' for better days, lookin' for better days
Lookin' for Floridays
Better days, better days
Everybody's lookin' for better days
Somewhere beneath the shining star
Better days, mon't you take me to better days
Better days, I sure could use a few better days

Out fishing on the saltwater creek that runs into the Intracoastal, then the St. Johns, then the ocean - no better place on earth! Stopping by Bennie Island and playing in the sand, a cold one at hand, mullet jumping, dolphins in the river - pure magic. Loving my Floridays.
Grew up in Wellington, moved away for a few years & couldn't come flying across the border fast enough & am so glad to be back. Won't make that mistake again. Listened to Floridays & other JB songs on the drive back down.
Creole is always our most favorite JB tune. It really takes us back to our childhood as it was designed to.
Born and raised in Fla, grew up reading Don Blandings FLORIDAYS...Jimmy loved the book too hence the name.
I'm on Manasota🏖
Floridian who moved to Texas. I like Texas better, and will never move back down to FL, but Florida still has a big piece of my heart. I love its beaches but come September, I'm sick of the weather.

Jimmy Buffett Started his Carrier in Key West Florida.
First Song was a Woman going crazy on Caroline St. He Lived in Key West! That is where he started Margaritaville.
Just because you say it does not make it true.
Here are actual facts about his "Carrier":
JB began his musical career in Nashville, TN where he recorded his first album "Down to Earth". Spent time in New Orleans as well. Not until he went to Key West with Jerry Jeff Walker in the 70's did he end up in Florida.
Far from the first song... Woman on Caroline Street was on his FIFTH album.
Suggest you stop pulling info from where the sun don't shine and start researching what you post. Jez.
That is true but his Carrier ended him in Key West florida, where it started to rise even more, and now he is getting momenton again.
While JB has flown off a carrier he does not have one. They cost $billions and more money than he makes to run them.
So do I
I grew up in Manatee Co . Even though this place has grown over the last 40 plus years it is still the only place to be . God bless the Sunshine State
i lived in Osceola county from 1974 to 1994 in kissimmee and st cloud and fished in melbourne miss it
Cocoa Beach is my second home. I'm set to move back to Florida from Ohio for this job out by Destin
ron trotto I was born in Kissimmee lived there until the age of fifteen then moved to Orlando rented a room in the Y.W.C.A. for two years in Orlando then moved to Ohio got married for seven years had two boys one in Ohio and then moved to Hawaii for four years had second boy then moved back to Ohio got divorced when I had sold everything I owned was leaving for Florida so excited was going to stay at sisters until I got settled ready to go move to Ft.Pierce I met my husband of thirty seven years but I gave him the ocean bug going to head for Myrtle Beach in October where we will celebrate our anniversary but we went home just about every year until my mom went to the great beyond haven't been back to Florida in a while all my family moved away from Kissimmee because of the great Disney so will return to Florida soon but no family but I spent a lot of time in Ft. Pierce love the beaches there lol and we love Jimmy Buffett!!!!!!!!! seeing soon at Riverbend where Parrotheads was born hope I wasn't to boring
Just moved my family to Florida mainly based on this song. Sydney will start high school Monday at Coral Shores and we will be living in Islamorada. Looking forward to this lifestyle.
5 years later....how is it?
Is it what you hoped for Dave?
i just came back and i cried its just so relaxing down in the small town areas
doesn't it suck. I am stuck in Port Charlotte...so close bet yet so far. Like
that one particular harbor. Get drunk every weekend and fight about how I
want to go back. The old man is a dream crusher
ha! I get it!!!.....Grew up in Cape Coral, now landlocked and married to a metal musician. I wish he could "FEEEEEEL" Jimmy too :)
Wish I saw that VW. I was at that concert, still have the ticket stub (that's how I remembered the date). We came from Biloxi MS that day where we were stationed at Keesler AFB. Great show! Still with the same girl huh? That's cool!
That sounds about right. We were traveling in a 1972 VW Bus with the words, EAT ME plastered on the side... But when you rolled up the passenger window, the EAT ME became EAT MEAT... LOL!>.. So much fun. We arrived at Dauphin Island for some pre-concert tail gateing that morning. I'm still with the girl I was with then... We keep dancing :-)
Was the concert you were speaking of at Ladd Stadium on July 29 1990?
I love it too. I think Jimmy is a wonderful guy in spite of his political leanings. Lord knows, I've spent lots of money that could have gone somewhere else on travel expenses and tickets to his shows. Clint Black and Little Feat in Mobile, Al was one of the better ones.
best song ever never gets old
Me too I wish I was back down there right now.
Mr. Jimmy's political views are polluted. This song seems to come before his indoctrination.
Why is it that entertainers like "Jimmy" get tuned into the marxist side of political leanings?
Get real James
Yes why
You might note that Jimmy flies and sails. He does his best to protect the sea, air and land. If this makes him bad than everyone I know is bad, including myself.
95% of the folks as rich as Jimmy only care about profit and cash. Getting very wealth did not turn him morally corrupt. Is that bad? I thought not.
He cares for others as well as himself.
Thinking of heading down to Florida in the spring to visit my aunt and uncle....hope I don't forget the way back to Pennsylvania....
used to shrimp out of Ft. Myers and Key West and all we listened to was JB. Love the man and his music. Makes me want to go back more years than I care to admit. My husband is a metal head and I am a parrott head and he doesn't get it. Too bad cause he is the one missing out/
Thanks for posting. Been listening to JB for my whole life as well (42 years) and this is my favorite song. The time it came out and my life blended for one of the most memorable times. When I hear this, I can still smell the smells and feel the emotions. THAT'S what good music should do.
@CBReptiles1 i know right, im stuck here in the dirty south, scuzzy nashville...oh how i miss that salt air and sand btwn the toes!! lets all go back...
@MissyGangstaa i grew up there and left in 1989 when i was 16. now im doing everything i can to get back there :) what a beautiful part of this country
Ah. Florida, my birthplace, my residence, my paradise. There's no place perfect in the world, but in my own opinion, La Florida, is close. If anyone comes here, they should check out the Keys. :D
Born and raised in Miami, lived most of my life in Florida. Living in the chilly and dreary climate of mountainous North Carolina now - really miss the warm amd beautiful weather. Favorite Florida spot - oceanfront deck at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Melbourne Beach. Cold beer, chillin', ultraviolet rays, Floridays
@MissyGangstaa I'm 35 years old. I grew up a parakeet into a parothead. Good one on you for following the line.
On the West Coast in Hernando Beach, love Buffett, can't wait to be down here fulltime.
I loves me some Florida! Stuck here in the blazin' hot desert of AZ.....
@DrAgOnFoRcE1547 Punta Gorda :) that's home to me.
Wade Xanders we are about to move there!
I enjoyed this video. Thanks for posting.
In the military here in Kansas waiting for my retirement next year so I can go home...
i like flagler beach
I go to Key West every year. Spend all my days fishing and just chilling. The days can't get better.
I used to live a little north of Clearwater in a place called Homosassa. I took the water and the fishing for granted, and now I'm landlocked and miserable.
Not bad for a white boy from Mississippi haha Love this song and it makes me wish I was back in the sunshine state
lived in the keys since 2003....and I love every minute of it ....fishing ,boating chasing naked horney girls and doing the duval crawl...man for an average working fella it just dosen't get any better than that...I will never leave.... this is home
As I dig deeper into his amazing body of work, this song has emerged as one of my favorites.
love this
I love this song and florida awesome

Heading back to Florida on Wed for thanksgiving break!
Born and raised in good ol Florida. Loving every second of my amazing Florida life.
When I first played this song on my LP (the last Buffett album I bought on vinyl), I thought is was one of the best he wrote in recent years. The mournful harmonica intro told me this was going to be deep.
this is one of his best songs
this song makes me love florida even more one of my favorites and i hope to go down southe toward miami ish so its nice like in this song
Thinking about Floridays once I retire from the military in a few years. Great song.
One of my favorite Buffett albums.
