Jim Reeves - Danny Boy Lyrics

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
Tis you, tis you must go and I must bide

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
Yes I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
Yes I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!

But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,

This song is very special to me and brings tears to my eyes. My Cousin Danny McGready was a very small young boy of 3 who drowned in the river clyde. My uncle Danny was at work when he got the sad news of his very young son who fell into the river clyde. It broke him and his whole world gone destroyed. He went into tears everytime he did hear this song. I never got to know my big cousin who drowned in the clyde. This song means so much to many of us who have lost loved ones. For my big cousin Danny and his Dad Danny Mcgready brother to my Dad.Danny Boy.

I love this song, and have heard it sung by many, and for decades, i have listened to jim, singing in the hope that I would like him! But i am so sorry, most songs i have heard him sing, almost always sound in exactly the same key, even here, there is no wow factor for me at all, just a low baritone voice, sorry for this, i am trying to like him.

  35. M.... J....

This appears to me to be lip synced which I find odd for a recording that early.

This is a favorite song in many funeral services of many nationalities... and I wonder if it is the lyrics or the music....I love it though....

  95. C.... F....

Think about this for a moment. If Mr. Reeves hadn't been killed in a tragic plane crash in July of 1964 (just a few weeks before his 41st birthday), he would've celebrated his 93rd birthday this past August. He was only about two months older than my grandfather on my mom's side. Listening to Jim Reeves gets me to thinking about my grandfather. Not that he was particularly a Jim Reeves fan, it's just that he was from that era. WWII, a young man in the 40's, my age now (41) in the mid 60s...and here it is, now almost 2017....where in the hell did time go?

  96. B.... ....

Jim Reeves was one of the greatest voices ever, and this song may be the most beautiful ever written. But this version has too much of the "Jim Reeves" country music twang.
