Jim Croce - New York's Not My Home Lyrics

Things were spinnin' 'round me
And all my thoughts were cloudy
And I had begun to doubt all the things that were me
Been in so many places, you know I've run so many races
I looked into the empty faces of the people of the night
Somethin' is just not right

'Cause I know that I've gotta get outta here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get outta here
'Cause New York's not my home

Though all the streets are crowded
There's somethin' strange about it
I lived there 'bout a year and I never once felt at home
I thought I'd make the big time
I learned a lot of lessons awfully quick
And now I'm tellin' you that they were not the nice kind
It has been so long since I have felt fine

That's the reason that I've gotta get outta here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get outta here
'Cause New York's not my home

That's the reason that I've gotta get outta here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get outta here
'Cause New York's not my home

I loved this song even before I came to a similar conclusion. Lol

  2. d.... ....

He wrote this song, because of the lying assholes in the music industry.

  3. K.... K....

    I live in NY

  4. K.... M....

I wish now I'd known this song when I'd lived in NYC. Just a dirty capitalist city with social-climbers all around you.

  5. n.... x....

Everytime when i hear this song, i will cry. Its so beautifull

  6. s.... d....

    Rip Jim and Maury

  7. J.... H....

    Chills every time

  8. T.... M....

What a terrible loss. He had just made it big and would have been a huge influence on so many artists. A great writer and storyteller and musician.

  9. S.... ....

Jim sure knew how to tell stories through songs

  10. M.... K....

Greatest acoustic guitar players in my book, Croce a great composer & singer. Sad sad ending though, miss them

  11. J.... C....

A true poet. He poured his emotion into every song. Had he lived longer, he could've been as successful as Neil Diamond, a similar artist in this genre.

  12. M.... C....

Due grandi che se ne sono andati troppo presto. Destino crudele.... questa è poesia pura,

  13. D.... L....

When I was ten I would listen to photographs and memories after school even though I wasn't allowed to, back then my favorite song was operator but I listened to the other songs and was surprised that all the songs were good, I memorized alot of Jim's songs and would sing them when I was in prison confinement.I really can relate to NY not my home but I live in Ft. Myers, Fla. Jim doesn't need the RRHOF his songs will last for ever.

  14. h.... f....

Cities are full of witchcraft & sorcery Nahum KJV

  15. N.... L....

Thanks for the infotext in the discription, it's helpful to have some details about the musician.

The song itself is timeless, even in couple hundred years people will feel these feelings and it makes me happy, that Jim Croce keeps everyone company who is feeling loneliness in a crowd of people

  16. J.... D....

    I miss you Hal.

  17. P.... P....

    Gone to soon.

  18. s.... ....

  19. n.... ....

can anyone tell me the name backup guitarist please?

    n.... ....

    Maury Muehleisen

  20. D.... B....

New York doesn't want any babies to feel at home cause new yawk won't have no home.

For me one the Best perfomer all the time...RIP

  22. J.... A....

I live in New York City and I totally understand what he’s sayin

  23. C.... F....

This is a great song, I've enjoyed so much of what Jim Croce has written. He has a relaxed melody in each of his songs, nothing ever feels out of place. His songs convey feelings better than most, making him almost feel like a confiding friend rather than a performer.

I covered this song on my channel, every view is greatly appreciated! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDZQhN9k98o&feature=youtu.be

  24. s.... b....

So glad I left New York, best thing I’ve ever done!!!

  25. B.... I....

Simple, honest, low-key passion----those were Jim's attributes as a singer/songwriter and it holds up even now.

  26. N.... D....

Every Jim Croce's song is complimented by soulful guitar of Maury. God, he is so good with his picks. Died in the same crash. Great loss. RIP and thank you for sharing us your soul and music.

  27. m.... ....

I am a huge fan of Croce's music and never knew he died in a plane crash.

  28. f.... ....

Why did you have to die so soon you beautiful bastard

  29. s.... b....

New York sucks, I was born there, couldn’t wait to move out of that communist state. You don’t know freedom till you move to a free state!!!!

    s.... b....

Couldn't agree more but I'm still here

    s.... b....

john pellegrino i dont think either of u know what communist means

  30. j.... s....

    i love joe croce.

  31. S.... R....

I don't think New York is anyone home. They just live there like little mice in a maze.

  32. s.... b....

I left New York and will never go back to a communist state

  33. T.... R....

He needs to be in the rock and roll hall of fame with Maury as well.

  34. b.... ....

Was in 3rd grade when he left this World. Better to have loved and lost than to never love at all. Maybe.

  35. J.... b....

    this is a great song

  36. b.... ....

only 64 thousand views ? What a shame.

That's how I felt in New York, and I was only there a week haha

  42. g.... ....

"In the music industry, arguably the worst tragedy that can befall an artist is to die in their prime,..." Is this really arguable? Just a thought.

  43. T.... C....

my husband came back from a ny business trip. he did not like it there.

  44. M.... k....

There are no words to quantify or express the magnitude of loss when Jim and Maury parted this world.....it can never be the same....

  45. m.... ....

Love this song, but New York is my home.

  46. S.... M....

I thought id make the big time i learned alot of lessons awful quick and now im telling you that they were not the nice kind

It's the reas that I got to get out of here, I'm so alone. That's the reason that I got to get out of here cause Atlanta's not my home.

  51. K.... K....

They died at the same time...on the same airline...hold your children.

  52. J.... A....

Check out Dion DiMucci singing "New York Is My Home" written by Paul Simon (who shares vocals)

  53. G.... ....

Feeling exacly like this song, I'm never going outside without my bike. The place where I live doesn't feel like home. I always feel kinda sad when I return to that city. Just wanna escape with my bike.

  54. C.... R....

This song got me through the winter, huddle up away from the window. I feel asleep to this every night. Jim had a way of making your feel not so alone, and I wish more people could emulate that. Great Video

  55. d.... ....

His death cost us more than a few great songs. I can't help wonder what else he would have done with his voice, his insight and his true, humble humanity.

    d.... ....

    No doubt.

    d.... ....

He could have been the best

    d.... ....

Especially considering most of his songs were written in one night. Hes a legend

    d.... ....

We already know why he died and why they'll die better 🤟

    d.... ....

    Esper Nova, was the best*

  56. B.... G....

I know how he felt. I'm living what he's singing, but not in NY. Great artist, great song, great tragedy.

    B.... G....

I left new york 3 years ago and never looked back. Best thing I ever did.
