Jim Croce - Age Lyrics
I've been up and down and around and 'round and back again,
I've been so many places I can't remember where or when.
And my only boss was the clock on the wall and my only friend
Never really was a friend at all.
Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time.
I've turned inside out and around about and back and then
Found myself right back where I started again.
Once I had myself a million, now I've only got a dime,
The diff'rence don't seem quite as bad today.
With a nickel or a million, I was searching all the time
For something that I never lost or left behind.
I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less,
I've turned inside out and around about and back and then
Found myself right back where I started again.
And Now I'm in my second circle and I'm headin' for the top,
I've learned a lot of things along the way.
I'll be careful while I'm climbin' 'cause it hurts a lot to drop,
When you're down nobody gives a damn anyway.
I've traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less,
Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time.
I've turned inside out and around about and back and then
Found myself right back where I started again.

I start guitar lessons on Tuesday and got one of Jim's song books to kick it off.
Jim is never forgotten we are all here to hear his wonderful music forever god bless👩😘
Can't believe this never made the radio. My favorite from a legend cut short. Thanks Jim for being awesome.
He left to soon
This is music, brings so many memories back. My wish would be to bring back all the musical talent back that we lost.
He has a great voice ☕️🥀
I told his widow how much his music has meant to me..shes on twitter
Terrific song and singer...done justice by The Bluegrass Album Band with an upbeat classic bluegrass version!
Tommy West on piano
One of his best songs. We lost him much too soon. His music lives forever. We will never see another like him.
Awesome!
Th 109 dislikes are all the people that haven't been up and down and around and round and back again.
My Dad showed me Croce back in the 5th grade. I ended up doing a biography in 6th grade about his life.... I turn 30 this December and my Dad just passed in July. Croces music makes me feel close and grateful to my Dad. Music I’ll listen to for the rest of my life I thank them both
Soul should never be up for grabs, but we all fuck up.
Yes we all do even you
Grandfather always said the thunder was davy jones bowlin..
Kindred soul jim.....thanks man!!
un bon guitariste....et une belle voix !
I loved his music from the first time I heard him. It was 1972 , I was in high school and I thought he was great. I still do. We lost a great artists when his plane went down in 1973. I remember thinking about his wife and their child who would never know his father. It was so very sad. Now I am a grandma and I still listen to Jim's lovely songs. When my time comes I have "Time in a Bottle " ear marked for my funeral. Jim's music and voice are timeless. I remember seeing him on the Mike Douglas show shortly before he passed. I have never forgotten that interview. He seemed so happy and, his music career has taking off. All you had to do was to turn on KSHE radio out of St. Louis, MO his music was everywhere back then. What a great guy.
That was a very good excuse....
But thank god was that excuse that saved me!!!
I'm a bloody lucky man!!!!
😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
i remember the first time I heard him, on Johnnie Carson. First thing next day, I was at the record store - his album wasn't out yet. Have loved his music from the moment I heard him.
One of my childhood friends passed tonight, I love you Jesse. This might not be your type of music but I didn’t know who else to listen to. Stay up my friend. Look over your family and be happy and clean brother🙏🏼
My top 3 Croce songs. Age, Hardway Every Time, Hey Tomorrow.
And when you down, nobody give a damn anyway.
Is it weird that I'm 16 yrs old and i love this song and many Jim Croce other songs?
you can listen to this forever
or
atleast until it's gone in the long tunnel of time
ifyoudolikejustsayyes
Oh god... This song makes my heart ache and gives me goose bumps at the same time. Phenomenal!!
my life in a song I cried the day he died
Love all his music, but this is my favorite
2019 who still love this ❤️
Found myself right back where I started again.. so many times
One of the only electric guitar moments by Maury. The outro solos are just hauntingly wistful and longing. What a song.
bon chanteur...bon guitariste !
Love from Philly jim! We miss you my guy!
So good and so true
Almost sounds like he's channeling Gordon Lightfoot
im 30 and i love his songs. Its a shame, that i have to stumbled over them on youtube. Im a fan since about 2 years or so. The first song i found was operator and with it, i fell in love with his music and listen to it almost every day...that songs should be played in radio all the day, but i have never heard them there (im from germany)...everybody should know him, but in fact nobody knows him and that sucks... that man should earn so much fame, even if he is dead. Jim is music and i celebrate him.
How many times am I allowed to liked this ???
Sounds like a song Gordon Lightfoot could have wrote.
Sang that song to my grandsons also LOLi think they heard it before! 2 years old , almost, hips a swing, heads swaying, I miss you Jim!
Sang that song to my grandsons, I think they are u

My dad always loved his music and I’ve heard much of it, but never this one before! Very pretty song with
such meaningful lyrics! ❤️ Another brilliant songwriter, gone to soon! 😢 Thanks for posting! ✌🏼
So little time you lend your voice to us.
Rest In Peace, Jim Croce
Jim and I shared a cab once on his way back to his hotel in Chicago after taping the Soundstage appearance at WTTW studios on the northside. He invited me to a small bar where friends of his and other musicians were going to jam late into the evening before he continued on his tour through the south. I had to admit to him that I wasn't sure who he was when i said i really like "early morning rain," and he said, "that's gordon Lightfoot." and i said, "well I really like, 'Gentle on My Mind," and he said, "that's Glen campbell.'
Pure genius!!! Jim was so far ahead of his time!!! I listen to this song daily!!!!
Mooi denk aan vroeger
Rip man
In my opinion.....this is the best song he ever wrote. Absolute masterpiece.
im 11 and i love jim croce he is my havorite singer and always will be
Truly beutiful
his death left me hartbroken
My favorite song. What kind of animal clicks downvote on this?
Like seriously? I don't come across mumble rap and downvote the video, I just leave the page. The fact that someone could hear this then click thumbs down blows my mind. 🤔
I love this music! Bad ass Jim Croce!!!!
Hola soy de el país chile y te digo que me encantan tus canciones son hermosas felicitaciones
I'm just 14 but i enjoy all of his songs♥️, aspiring to be a composer like him : )
His music still lives....
You can be having a bad day and listen to one of his songs and it gets better
Love this song!
We miss you
Dad come back home
I have been a fan since the beginning (in the 60s) and was even fortunate enough to see him live once before he was gone. Something I will never forget.
I miss Jim Croce and i miss my dad
Underrated
I remember my dad with giant headphones
Bremerton Washington 1978.. it was playing in the background... in my house
You are not alone ... this guy was something great and underrated
Wow thanks jim!
Jim is buried at Haym Solomon Memorial Park in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Great song! For all of us who have lost loved ones. Life goes that fast and we will see them again that soon!
Hello type in "Ron Howard Palace" listen to Opie sing "Lady"! Also type "Ron Howard cover" listen to "The Dance"!
Jim Croce Grow's On You If Alive Today He'd Be We'll Known
He was very well known back in the day but you see today's generation they change musical tastes like they change clothes and lots of them have no respect for the past
I agree fully Mark...I was in my teens when he first came on the scene. I remember hearing the song "Time In A Bottle" on a TV movie...I was hooked. Great singer/songwriter.
Never heard this on the radio...that is a crime
An amazing artist. I play his music every day.
Just a song¿ Nope been there done that but if money was an issue then you never had fun doing it
such a shame this man, a true poet died so young
My favorite song ever...😍 👍
my favorite song ever
Had this sent to me by my mother while sitting in federal penitentiary about to be released for selling 5 kilos of meth. Jim words really hit home and i took it to heart. 10 years later I'm still drug free, my mindset has returned to normal, and i started a family of my own, have a great job, making a honest living and happier then ever. All thanks to Jim's lyrics which changed my life!!!
The ability to reach out and touch someones life so deeply many years after death is the only form of immortality we humans have. It is good to hear that Jim is stll touching lives. Stay strong!
Good for you hang in there
So Jim Croce did a better job for you than any psychogist or rehapcentre would do. I guess, you found the naked trouth in Jim's lyrics. He knew life as it is. You can be proud of what you accomplished. Could have ended very badly for you, but thanks to you and Jim Croce, it didn't!!!
God bless you brother!!!
You did it not the lyrics, glad they helped you find peace
Que coisa mais linda
I feel this tune!
Slowing it to 0.75 at the start really makes me appreciate the guitar playing, I think it was Maury doing that part.
this song takes me somewhere else... even though for a short time, no matter what mood I'm in... great song.. love you Mama...and Dad.... live on
One of those rare songs where the title is not mentioned in the song. Similar to the Leon Russell song Superstar.
One of Croce's lesser known tunes, but a true gem.
Probably one of his best. A reflection on real life.
Not unknown to those of us who grew up on Jim Croce's incredible music. This came out 3 years before I was born, but grew up with it playing in my home.
@John Green Yes, i was also surprised that someone thought, that this is a lesser known song of his.
his best regardless of how popular :)
But very well known to bluegrass fans (like me), thanks to the unforgetable cover made by JD Crowe and New South!
I LOVE Jim Croce's music, and his CDs with Ingrid aren't half bad either!
Of all his songs this is the best
For songs like this and so many more I'll always miss ya Jim. Thank you for the wonderful collection you gave us !!!!
I guess some people don't appreciate good music but I do. Started listening to him in 1973. He's still one of my favorite artists and my daughter loves his music too
That intro sounds just like Allison krauss' "lucky one"
Fantastic song from my favorite singer -songwriter ever. Miss ya Jim, I always will. Thanks for the gifts you gave me in your great songs.
Really miss, Jim and Maury. They were bound for bigger things.
Wow this is me at 51...I love JC he is missed...
Listened to Jim Croce in real time back in the day. One of a kind, on the very top shelf of the singer-songwriters of the era of great singer-songwriters. Thanks for putting this on YouTube.
Sad that some musicians today have hundreds of millions of views while the truly talented are forgotten pieces of history.
What's with the 52 thumbs down? If you don't like Jim why are you here? Get the Fuck Off !!!
There was a time... I thought I was ONLY one that loved the REST OF JIM CROCE... I guess, I am NOT the ONLY one.
Robert Genis not a chance..
I felt the same way, back then..but there are more if us that love All Of Jim and Maury's music then once believed!!
Not at all. He has been always and still is, my favorite singer!
Robert Genis - glad to know I’m not alone. My favorite artist
Huh...ditto !!
