Jethro Tull - Witch's Promise Lyrics

Lend me your ear while I call you a fool.
You were kissed by a witch one night in the wood,
and later insisted your feelings were true.
The witch's promise was coming,
believing he listened while laughing you flew.

Leaves falling red, yellow, brown, all are the same,
and the love you have found lay outside in the rain.
Washed clean by the water but nursing its pain.
The witch's promise was coming, and you're looking
elsewhere for your own selfish gain.

Keep looking, keep looking for somewhere to be,
well, you're wasting your time, they're not stupid like he is.
Meanwhile leaves are still falling, you're too blind to see.

You won't find it easy now, it's only fair.
He was willing to give to you, you didn't care.
You're waiting for more but you've already had your share.
The witch's promise is turning, so don't you wait up
for him, he's going to be late.

So funny to watch people trying to dance to this music from these old shows. What's up with Ian's affected drunk/high act?

  26. M.... H....

Whether you like this or not you can not deny they are an incredibly talented band. Ian has the most amazing presence in his voice. I was 5 yrs when this came out... wish I had seen them live at the Isle of Wight

  27. C.... M....

No Ian Anderson never indulged in drugs, his behavior is the result of GENIUS

  28. G.... W....

Ian being Ian, which is being ultra-annoying

  29. A.... G....

Ian is kind of a mix of a medieval trovateur and kurt cobain....

  41. J.... P....

Amazing. And Ian was a mere stripling of 22 here. What a creative genius.

  42. H.... ....

is he gurning his face off haha?

  43. C.... B....

What a times I had getting stoned whilst listening to Jethro Tull when I was in my teens and thirties.

  44. 7.... ....

Jethro Tull Rocks!!! I have all their albums and can't get enough their early stuff is the best in my opinion it's just such a bad ass band

  45. C.... H....

.I applaud Ian Anderson for investing his money in his home country Scotland. He brought great music to many- me included! CH

    C.... H....

Is that what he did? Interesting. Here's a great quote - 'There seems to be an inclination among rock musicians to be very carefree with money, but I negotiate the best flight and hotel deals on our tours to maximise the band's income – I don't want too see too much taken off the top line. 'https://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/fameandfortune/6102159/Fame-and-Fortune-Jethro-Tulls-Ian-Anderson.html

  46. L.... i....

Ian Anderson was such a theatrical performer. He had his style and it was perfect. His flute defined the band, aside from their fantastic songwriting! Brilliance

  47. s.... ....

Drummer: "wonder what I'll have for tea tonight.."

  48. C.... N....

    What does JETHRO TULL mean?
Our agent, who had studied History at college, came up with the name Jethro Tull (an eighteenth century English agricultural pioneer who invented the seed drill). That was the band name during the week in which London's famous Marquee Club offered us the Thursday night residency. So it stuck.
    ———
A seed drill is a device that sows the seeds for crops by positioning them in the soil and burying them to a specific depth. This ensures that seeds will be distributed evenly. The seed drill sows the seeds at the proper seeding rate and depth, ensuring that the seeds are covered by soil.

    C.... N....

He invented the horse driven plow. Thats what their album Heavy Horses references too

    C.... N....

almost all their songs come from Jethro Tull quotes, poems, etc... https://quotes.thefamouspeople.com/jethro-tull-6434.php?fbclid=IwAR1GMd5PgodOvMeuBeWdk_nrysaTIlDyc8JfyqhJqLCfNVzulA9B72rcFGE

    C.... N....

    @Lonnie O Thx. I didn't know that.

    C.... N....

There was more to Jethro Tull than the seed drill
Students who are interested should do some research

    C.... N....

When I was in my teen's (a very long time ago) I was told that Jethro Till invented the manure spreader. I suppose I'll have to look this up now.

  49. w.... w....

    A genius I tell you!

  50. b.... p....

Pure Anglo Saxon...Celtic old Britons....this song would have been celebrated, at Stonehenge gatherings!!!

  51. V.... ....

  53. A.... R....

    You are so right, HitMeWithIt!

  54. S.... S....

is it possible to go back in time and film this with our HD Cameras of toda..!? and then see if it looks the same? or is it really just the point of technology..or had these times beautiful Auras..!?

  55. M.... N....

what an awesome song and performance by Ian Anderson and his flute .He's like a character out of the Crusades of the 11th century

  56. C.... R....

All these pseudo mimed performances are a missed opportunity looking back. These legends are no more & instead of hearing nuances from live arrangements, we have some nonse out the back, pressing 'play'.

The same Corporation that re-recorded over hundreds of (now lost) episodes to save money when they were in receipt of millions of license fees.

The same Corporation that lied to local residents about radiation contamination around Windscale.

The same BBC that bang on doors, when it is not the law. That hides pedophilic behavior, & sacks anyone who refuses to claim outrageous expenses - marking them with crime & guilt from day one.

It would be great to live in a time where something so surprising and avant-garde could be broadcast into millions of British homes simultaneously while families sat together watching the black and white tv. As Lemmy said, if you could go back to the 70s, you wouldn’t come back here.

  81. S.... P....

    A crazy man

  82. S.... P....

    BBC was great before

  83. I.... W....

He was like this when I saw him at the Liverpool Empire on War Child tour c. 75. One of the best gigs I’ve been to. Did not disappoint. So many really exciting highlights, too numerous to mention, well just the one as it’s relevant. Lots of dry ice ‘smoke’ blowing about on the stage at the start. Martin Barre, wearing what seemed to be a long silk oriental gown appeared churning out a heart-stoppingly heavy riff, organ riff built, drumming commenced then Ian Anderson leapt through the smoke seemingly about 10’ up in the air, flute in hand, and hit the stage bang on the beat of....can’t remember the song 😬 but it was outstanding. Nothing IA did or does was accidental or uncalculated. A master showman, musician and songwriter.

  84. h.... ....

HOLLLLLLLY FUCK! Never saw Anderson in the day, damn.

  85. S.... L....

Jethro Tull doesn't sing one good song, they are ALL Shit and he is a weirdo.

    Discuss

    A.... H....

    @Shelly Slavek y'ngins? ???!!!!

    A.... H....

@Shelly Slavek Please explain.Would very much like to discuss this with you further.

    A.... H....

Angela Hope young ones... I meant it seems that people today seem to make ugly, hateful comments but can’t seem to ... talk

    A.... H....

I personally don’t think songs age. If it meant something in the ‘70s it still means something in the ( what, 20 teens)
What does “it “ mean? Well that’s up to the person listening. And thank you for an actual discussion

    A.... H....

@Shelly Slavek Great to hear from ye.
You ain't wrong. My point was that the memory of my late Father is linked to this song and I'm a child of the 70's and everytime I hear this song it takes me back to when my Da would play this through a reel to reel.
I believe that certain songs to some people make them think
"Blimey I didn't realise how old that song was."
My Daughter who is now 22 now looks back in horror at Sclub7 who she loved when she was a kid.
I used to love and if I'm honest still do Gene Pitney to which she replied "Who????"

  88. E.... W....

Could you even begin to imagine bands like this making it now? not a chance.....All we seem to be fed now is cheap, anodyne dross! Thank you very much Simon Cowell - thank you so bloody much, for nothing.

  89. D.... B....

  93. j.... a....

I absolutely agree that Ian Anderson is a genius. His music is live and exceptionally unique with a high class style.
