Jethro Tull - WarChild Lyrics

I'll take you down to that bright city mile ---
there to powder your sweet face and paint on a smile,
that will show all of the pleasures and none of the pain,
when you join my explosion
and play with my games.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.
No unconditional surrender; no armistice day ---
each night I'll die in my contentment and lie in your grave.
While you bring me water and I give you wine ---
let me dance in your tea-cup and you shall swim in mine.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.
Open your windows and I'll walk through your doors.
Let me live in your country --- let me sleep by your shores.
WarChild dance the days, and dance the nights away.

Jethro Tull WarChild Comments

Those were the days. Purple Barrel, White Blotter, Mr. Natural and Jethro Tull in concert. After the first concert I was in deep. Fantastic live performances. Filled with a feast for the ears and many a cerebral surprize. Theres was nothing like it......until I saw the Grateful Dead.
    Peace

During the midst of the cold war a dark melancholoy song for sure. Thanks for sharing. Good Luck.
Harmony. Tranquility. Humanity. Peace. And Love.

Good album, one of my favorite songs. I prefer a few albums over this, Stand Up, Aqualung, Too Old Too Rock n Roll, A, and Crest of a Knave probably my favorites, Passion Play was good too, Broadsword, they had lots of good ones, even my least favorite have plenty of strong moments

  6. p.... ....

There's a good song in there struggling to get out.

  11. M.... O....

This was the album that introduced me to Jethro Tull. My mom bought it as a cassette and I appropriated it from her.

  12. T.... O....

This was the first album I shoplifted as a broke twelve year old in the 70's.

Utter genius, musically, and with some remarkably poignant and evocative lyrics.

  16. R.... A....

Hi Mel. Thought this, from '74, might be some amusement, coinciding with your study and paper.
You might look at the lyrics of this song. War Child, Skating, and Bungle are the three songs I remember. Vicky had this album when it was new, and other Tull became my favorite music.
Hope you can turn up your favorite music sometimes. d

  17. A.... N....

Had this album for a while.  Only listened once.  Didn't like.

  18. B.... H....

    Tull rules!

  19. k.... j....

This album is still as fantastic as it was 44 years ago, when I bought it❤️ I love this album.

    Me too. 🎸🎻👍💕

To read all the Ian Anderson lyrics .....go to the 'Cup of Wonder ' site ....✅

  21. B.... G....

For me, this is the best song of that particular album.

  22. w.... ....

I saw the War Child Tour at The Rainbow Theatre in Finsbury Park
Tull were joined onstage by a string quartet, dance group Pan's People danced above the stage and the show was compared by Stirling Moss.
Support were American female rock band Fanny with Susie Quatro's sister Patti on guitar.

  23. J.... D....

One of my favorite albums of all time

    J.... D....

Was it the first Album you heard by tull ?
my favorites from any group are often the first I hear.

  24. C.... M....

My favorite Tull album , The greatest prof rock band ever

    C.... M....

    "Prof rock"?

    C.... M....

@drithligh I love it! Obviously Chris meant to type PROG but PROF is even better! Love it.

  25. a.... s....

Rip Roger Delgado who died in 1973

  26. S.... ....

Aqualung may be the most Christian album ever to be targetted for record-burning ire by right-wing evangelicals. This is a logical followup, that is both angrier and more hopeful. Bear in mind that economic battles, disguised as religious warfare, still raged in Britain and Northern Ireland, at the time these were recorded.

    S.... ....

This is not the followup to Aqualung though, this is 3 albums later

  27. L.... ....

As an old fart, I saw this tour in like 75 or so. Um....these guys cooked then, and they sound even hotter these days, imho

    L.... ....

This was my very 1st concert at the Los Angeles Forum 1975 \m/

    L.... ....

They opened the tour in the US in Asheville NC. The NC symphony was behind them. Carried a string ensemble on the rest of the tour. It was probably the best show I ever went to including steel wheels and the wall

  28. A.... ....

    Great JT album...

  29. j.... ....

Seriously...most of the previous comments going (years) back ....these gents have no sense of context. Anderson was a master of the time in both lyric and context. I'm sure he still is.

  30. R.... F....

leftover songs from the passion play sessions I love them all! the 40year release has the lime green cds nice

  31. G.... T....

    Fantastic memories....brill

  32. B.... B....

3:15 well that's a pretty obvious double entendre right there Mr. Anderson...

  33. J.... M....

No doubt Ian is in an extraordinary category of odd ducks, but he played it to the hilt, balls out. He had strokes of genius mixed with strokes of mediocrity. His guitar playing is tricky, intricate and difficult to replicate accurately. His lyrics are cynical and critical while his musical sensibilities and melodic structuring erratic and unsettled but they never felt like he thought – that’s good enough. He started as a flute player in a London based blues band…enough said.

    J.... M....

+James MG In what way "mediocre"? He's maybe not the greatest of singer, but thu he write's his own material, well; so he's in his right to deliver em as well. And all Jethro's songs are easy to sing along with ---

    J.... M....

Full of SHIT! He was a GUITAR player, and learned the FLUTE AFTER hearing Jimi Hendricks! He wanted to be THE BEST at an instrument, and he realized NOBODY could match Hendricks!

    J.... M....

Ian Anderson also name-checks Clapton when giving reasons to believe that he would never make it as a great guitarist (having Martin Barre in the band would only have helped cement that in his mind!).

    J.... M....

Mr. MG knows not of what he speweth.

    J.... M....

Robert DiMeglio Ian took up flute after hearing Eric Clapton, not Jimi Hendrix. Clapton was around before Hendrix.

  34. w.... p....

no dislikes for one of the weaker of Jethro Tulls early albums. nice

    w.... p....

+world peace I think it's nostalgia. I love it even for its faults.

    w.... p....

@jackie jones and such is the nature of true love

    w.... p....

+world peace You're a tone deaf idiot if you think that. Kindly shut up or fuck off.

    w.... p....

"Weaker" is, granted, just one persons opinion. Each has is own preferences in importance to his music over the years in the 70's.
Most of us fans back in 74 were thrilled to hear this new Tull LP when it came out.
Lots of great music here...... IMHO.

  35. F.... ....

"As in A Passion Play, each handcrafted track comes chock-full of schmaltz, strings, tootie-fruitti sound effects and flute toots to boot, not to mention Anderson's warbling lyricism.", concluding, the reviewer said: "Remember: Tull rhymes with dull." Rolling Stone. (I just had to post this review. Made me laugh)

    F.... ....

+Frankincensed LOL _ that made me laugh too but I love this album. Nostagic love of the time.

    F.... ....

Rolling stone magazine, not surprised! That rag should be torn into small pieces, perforated, put on a roll and put in the smallest room in the house!

    F.... ....

well, JT is kinda goofy in a way, but they are still amazing musicians...... something like Maiden in metal...... "Thick as a Brick, part 2" is easily one of the greatest songs in history of Prog. Rock......

    F.... ....

The same mag that reviewed HOUSES OF THE HOLY as a "Limp Blimp".
    Need I say more?

  36. r.... z....

Yesterday, saw i.Anderson in Utrecht, still going strong @ age 68.. Toda Jethro!

    r.... z....

    72 now. i wanna scream.

  37. o.... ....

Another album that grew on me as the years went by many many years I might add... Went all the way up to number # 2 on the charts in America but didn't sell every well go figure....

  38. B.... ....

"Red Lobster" has now co-opted JETHRO TULL.  I officially (sort of) surrender (sort of).

  39. C.... Z....

I still have the green 8 track from when I was a teen in the 70's.

    C.... Z....

    wow- so do I

    C.... Z....

Someone sent me a link publicizing a new Cassette player featuring blu-tooth headphones. I told him I'm waiting for the 8-Track. Do you still have an 8-Track player that works? LOL. Mine died in 1980 or so...

  40. O.... M....

I absolutely love Tull but this album along with Too Old to Rock and Roll just doesn't do it for me at all!

    O.... M....

I love Warchild , but after A Passion Play any album is so good , but Too Old to Rock ' n Roll is the worst Tull's album in the 70's

    O.... M....

@ANMZ3 I think the too old to rock and roll is excellent, it doesn't compare perhaps to TAAB or PP but those albums litteraly came from space cosmic energy. Wow Jethro Tull are just fucking incredible.

  41. K.... W....

And I found it in my parents record collection - was listening to it non stop.

    K.... W....

Dry clever parents you've got there.....take care of them . !

  42. n.... ....

Definitely one of the all time great albums. Thanks for presenting all the tracks here. It's been hard (for me) to find for many years. A school mate lent me his lime green cassette over a long weekend, way back in 1975!
